It’s been my honor to work at WGEM and cover amazing schools and athletes, and administrators, for the last 16 years. But June 15 will be my last day. I can’t thank all of you enough for welcoming me into your homes night in and night out.
It may have only been a high school football scrimmage but I got to sit by my wife tonight, and watch our son.
You don’t how big of a deal that is.
Finally I’m not waving from the sidelines with a camera on my shoulder.
I’ve been to what seems like hell and back over the last 2 weeks, battling COVID-19 & pneumonia, which equaled a week in the hospital.
I’m finally getting my strength back & I’m so very grateful for all the medical personnel who provided incredible care.
Stay safe, everyone.
*Took my kids to the pool on a weekday.
*Watched a movie with my kids on a weekday evening.
*Drove my son to summer league basketball games and didn’t have to rush home.
*Watched my daughter’s softball game from start to finish.
So....this is real life?
Remember folks: no one has earned a college scholarship, signed a pro contract, or been asked to coach a premiere college basketball program, based on their Gus Macker stats.
Shout out to the Columbia HS baseball team which stopped warming up for the Class 2A state championship game to applaud when Tucker Tollerton’s name was announced and his medal given to Tuckers family members.
Every single player.
First class gesture.
Only in Illinois can my 10-year-old’s baseball team practice continuously over the last two weeks....
....but my son and daughter’s high school teams, with professional trainers ready to assist with temperature taking & adhering to social distancing, cannot. 🤦♂️
Just walked into a local gas station and I was the only one out of 6-8 people wearing a mask.
Even the workers were mask-less.
I don’t care what side of the aisle you sit on, how/why is this still happening?
@BenMarth19
@Cardinals
Hey Charlie. I hope you feel better real soon buddy. My family and I will lift you up in prayer. Best wishes on a full and great recovery! Go
@Cardinals
!!!
I know we’re all eager to return to normalcy — but over the last 2 weeks our family has done more things together than probably the last 2 years combined.
We’ve laughed more, ate more meals together, and played more games together.
A silver lining during a difficult time.
Thrilled to announce my next career venture with Digital Scoreboards, LLC., as a Regional Sales Rep. I am marketing Outdoor/Indoor LED Sports and Entertainment Systems. I am thankful for the opportunity and can’t wait to see what the future holds working for the industry leader.
I know it’s difficult when determining fall sports in Illinois.
But I’m a parent of both a senior and sophomore who have aspirations of playing beyond HS.
All I ask of decision makers is a plan. If Plan A doesn’t work, then have a Plan B, C, D, etc.
Devise multiple options.
Overwhelmed with pride for
@jackmarth31
and his special day signing with
@Truman_FB
— all the unseen hours of dedication, both in the classroom and on the field, came full circle. Thanks to
@coach_nez
and
@CoachKillday
for recruiting him and providing this great opportunity.
The Monroe City football program won three games in 2015 and two seasons later went 15-0 and won a state championship.
Hard work.
Dedication.
Perseverance.
Anything is possible.
Oldest is getting braces, middle child plays for a regional championship in volleyball, and the youngest will break the all-time record for most 2K games played by an 8-year-old.
Big day for the family.
Not afraid to admit that I will cry, tears of joy albeit, if the
#stlblues
win this game.
I’ve been a fan and attending games for 34 years.
This franchise, this city, and us fans deserve this opportunity.
Her first love is volleyball. A certain virus got in the way.
So she decided to go out for tennis. Except she’s never played tennis in her life until about a month ago.
Won all three of her first high school matches today.
It was a good day.
Convenience store clerk: “You’re that guy from TV.”
Me: “Used to be. I’m retired now.”
Clerk: “I used to watch you at my Grandma’s house.”
Me: “Only at your Grandma’s house?”
Clerk: “Yeah, only old people watch the news.” 😆
Two-time All State.
Two-time Team MVP.
Two-time Captain.
Two-time All Conference.
But most importantly, graduating with a 4.0 GPA and being a member of the only team in program history to finish No. 1 in the state.
We are incredibly proud of you, Jack.
Whether it was your 1st talk, or your 100th, Jamar White treated you like you’d been friends forever. That’s what makes tonight’s news so difficult to accept. I’ll miss his infectious smile & personality, & of course that left arm he liked to show off at Monroe City FB practice.
Some personal news....
After three years and a great experience in sales and marketing at Digital Scoreboards I have accepted a position at Broadcast Electronics.
So thankful to both companies for the opportunities they have given me.
So again, how do I explain to my 18-year-old that his senior season is in serious jeopardy, even though there’s likely a solid IHSA plan in place to protect himself, and others, yet his 10-year-old brother can go play anywhere he wants in neighboring states?
What a mess.
Luke Voit, a professional baseball player, told my 8-year-old son something that stuck with me: “Play all the sports you can and want to. You don’t have to concentrate on just one.”
Quincy’s Kristen Gengenbacher has parlayed her stellar four-year indoor volleyball career at San Diego into a full-ride beach volleyball scholarship to the University of Washington. She will have one year of eligibility and pursue a Masters in athletic administration.
Final game at The Pit tonight. Wish we could have had a packed house but so thankful we have a season. What a journey. Proud of you and love you
@jackmarth31
Good for Albert Pujols. The guy gave so much to the Cardinals franchise and continues to raise millions for charity in St. Louis. I'll always be a fan.
Words can’t describe my pride.
Put in the work and success will follow, most notably team success, but individual honors as well.
Thanks to the Champaign News-Gazette on the All-State recognition for our son.
Quincy High School installing a 10-feet by 23-feet video board in Blue Devil Gym. I’m told it will be the largest in a high school venue in the state of Illinois.
See a lot of fans amused by the Cardinals’ lack of offense in the NLCS.
Yeah, it was bad. Horrendous. Terrible. Brutal. Pick any word you want.
But I’d still rather watch my team as one of four teams left standing while yours is weeks deep in tee times.

The once-a-month, hour-long playground duty responsibility at my kids' school is reason enough for me to respect the role of elementary teachers. All teachers deserve to be paid more.
So thrilled for our son for this opportunity. We were humbled by those who showed interest in him, and sincerely grateful. It meant a lot to him and our family.
The first high school sectional champion in the Marth household.
She quietly goes about her business and excels at her position with little fanfare.
She’s a great teammate and I am very proud to be her father.
8-Year-Old son: “Why do people go to the football game when you can watch it on TV?”
Me: “There’s nothing like watching a game live in person. If you play on TV someday, do you think Mom and I will be there?”
Son: “No, because you’re old.”
We competed for 15+ years and it was his passion for covering local sports the wait it should be…that made me who I was as a broadcaster. I will forever respect
@ChrisDuerr
— we are undeniably fortunate to have him cover our teams & our student athletes. Congrats on the HOF nod.
Chills. Absolute chills. This man deserves iconic status in St. Louis. A statue. A red jacket. A spot in the Hall of Fame. And don’t forget all the selfless charitable work he’s done. Home run combination.

I don’t care where he did it, what network/streaming service it was on, or who got to call it.
I only care that he got to do in a Cardinals uniform.
Hats off to El Hombre.

Rest In Peace, Mike Rudd.
Never got to see you play but had the privilege to watch you give back to area kids on the basketball court, time and time again. It was always followed with that fantastic smile of yours. I’ll never forget our conversations and the laughs we shared.
Not gonna lie, it’s pretty cool seeing your son on a college football two-deep….
….then you see the opposition has a tackle who’s an Auburn transfer.
And it hits you, this ain’t high school football anymore.
