Merredin and Districts got together 27 headers and support gear like Chasers Bins, Trucks etc., to take the crop off for the Lynch Family after their tragic loss of their son Jordan. Just have to admire people for donating their time and gear to get the job done.

I farmed down in Salmon Gums for eight years and had a dream run of seasons. And for those eight years I could always see the majestic Peak Charles changing colour and on a real frosty morning there would a steam cloud coming off the top.

Have a look at this. This auger was mounted on this new Chamberlain tractor 50 years ago by a mechanic working for "Erregulla Plains" who (or whoever organised it.) knew what he was doing with regard to hydraulics. This auger just ticks over like clockwork.

Never in my wildest dreams did I think that you would be able to grow a 4.5t crop not far from Mullewa over a big area. That is 25 bags per acre in the old language and we use to think at one stage that 10 bags was as good as you were going to get.

Years ago, I averaged 3t over 10,000 acres at Salmon Gums, and it only looked half as good as this. Heaven knows what it will go with many crops looking like this in the Mullewa area.

In the 60s, we didn't know how to grow Canola, and we were just learning how to grow Sweet Lupins. On top of that, the crops wouldn't be out in-ear until the middle of Sept and look at them now and the creeks still running. Just amazing how far farming has come in that time.
