Today I visited a barbershop in Douglasville. An older gentleman was waiting to get his hair cut. When I asked him about his top issues, he responded without pause: women's rights. He has two granddaughters who are attending colleges in Georgia. He's voting for their future.
๐จBREAKING: Iโm officially the Democratic Nominee for Georgia's Secretary of State race. Join me in making history by defeating Brad Raffensperger and helping me become the first Asian woman elected to political statewide office in Georgia!
๐งต When Saigon fell in 1975, a portion of my family was evacuated immediately โ my uncle worked for the U.S. embassy. Everyone else was left behind, including my parents. My dad and two uncles were swept up & imprisoned in โre-education camp,โ where they were starved & more.
I'm joining
@SenatorWarnock
& his team as the new state director!ย Nearly 35 years ago, my family & I planted our roots in the South. I'm proud to call Georgia my home & I'm grateful for the opportunity to serve Georgians. Hope to see y'all along the way!
#TeamWarnock
These are first time Vietnamese voters in Clayton County. They've lived here for 20 years, and they went out to vote for me today. And she wore a lovely traditional aoi dai! ๐๐ญ
๐ I just picked up dinner for my team and me, and the bartender was wearing her peach "I voted" sticker. She waited in line for over an hour. It was 80 degrees. She *almost* left, but she stayed to cast her ballot. Thank you, Georgia voters!
Thanks for having our backs, President
@BarackObama
! Democracy is on the ballot, and we can make a difference by voting. Let's get it done, Georgia! ๐
During one of my last stops today, I met a 22-year-old organizer. He said he was "never into politics." But he heard his mom wail when Roe v. Wade was overturned. And he decided he would do everything he could to help
@GeorgiaDemocrat
(s) win in November.
My hope is we see the same kind of political leadership we saw from President Carter & Gov. Ray. I pray that our Afghan allies & partners make it out alive and have the chance to rebuild their lives, the same way my family was able to. We owe it to them.
Tonight in Clayton County a voter over the age of 100 showed up to see
@staceyabrams
and waited patiently for Stacey to sign her Abrams action figure doll. ๐
My whole family loves President Carter, and we are forever indebted to him for the Refugee Act of 1980, which enabled tens of thousands of Vietnamese refugees to rebuild their lives in America. ๐
One of my proudest accomplishments was repealing the โexact nameโ match voter suppression policy that froze the registrations of 53,000 voters. The damn Georgia General Assembly couldnโt spell my last name โ the chair sent me an apology letter ๐
In 2022, I put my name on the ballot, and I didn't win. But I traveled all over Georgia, met inspiring people of all backgrounds, & learned a lot about myself and others. My little sister got married, my mama turned 70, & I lived + loved another year. Happy New Year, y'all!
They resettled in Iowa, where I was born in 1981. Over the years, we have cobbled together bits & pieces of our familyโs story โ because nobody wants to talk about it. The stories of imprisonment, the trauma of family separation & civil conflict, the loss of their country.
In 1979, Georgiaโs Democratic President Jimmy Carter made a deeply unpopular decision to increase our intake of Viet refugees โ from 7,000 to 14,000 per month. The majority of Americans opposed this decision.
Gov. Kemp is allowing gyms & barber shops to re-open Friday, April 24 & restaurants to re-open Monday, April 27.
Thereโs no way Iโm getting a hair cut, or dining at a restaurant, even though I really want to.
This is not good. This is going to get more Georgians killed.
I just called
@GaSecofState
to concede & congratulate him on winning his 2nd term. The past years haven't been easy in Georgia โ I'm grateful to be in race where we can have a phone call & wish each other well. Thank you to the voters in the state of Georgia. You inspire me. ๐
In 1979, President Carter said he would double the number of refugees we received from Vietnam per month โ 7,000 to 14,000. 62% of Americans disapproved.
Thanks to his courage, my parents made it here. Our big, fat Viet family in 1981.
Happy 97th birthday, President Carter! โค๏ธ
Republican Gov. Robert Ray from Iowa wrote to President Carter: โIowa will double the number of refugees from Vietnam that we have already accepted; if you, Mr. President, will only reopen Americaโs doors.โ
I was in Iowa this weekend, as the events unfolded in Afghanistan. Though my parents picked up & moved to Georgia, some family remained there. We talked about the evacuation โ my cousin said leaving her aunt (my mom) behind was one of the most traumatizing events in her life.
A huge swath of my family took a gamble on the sea, including my parents & my cousin who was 10 months pregnant. She ultimately gave birth in refugee camp in Thailand. But before they made it, they ended up stranded in the middle of the sea. A Thai fisherman saved their lives.
Mrs. Tran is an 80-year-old Viet naturalized citizen. Her registration was โpendingโ due to โexact match.โ
She was flagged because whomever input her name hyphenated it. She was also listed as โmale.โ
With Camโs help, she was able to vote for
@staceyabrams
today!
But my family was lucky. Hundreds of thousands of Vietnamese people died at sea in desperate attempts to escape. Others never made it out of โre-education camp.โ More were killed in combat.
Period poverty is a real thing - students miss school because of lack of access to menstrual products. As a former teacher, Walz understands how his impacts educational outcomes, just like he knows how hunger impacts learning. This makes me an even bigger fan of Tampon Tim.
As a Georgian, I know firsthand that Brad Raffensperger is not a friend to our democracy. It was 95 degrees today and it's now illegal to hand out a bottle of water to a voter waiting in line.
Help me take on Brad Raffensperger in November ๐
Brad Raffensperger still calls himself a proud Trump supporter and describes his interactions with Burt Jones, a fake elector, as "great." Raffensperger thinks that two people who tried to overthrow our democracy pose the same threat as Stacey Abrams?
Over 44 year ago, my parents fled their country in the middle of the night on a boat โ after my dad was imprisoned by his government for 3 years. Our President from the great state of Georgia made an unpopular decision to increase the number of Vietnamese refugees to our country.
I went to drop off clothes at the dry cleaner. The woman looked at me and said: "Are you Bee Nguyen?"
The owners told me that former U.S. Senator Sam Nunn helped them come to America over 40 years ago. I told them that Pres. Jimmy Carter helped my parents over 44 years ago. ๐บ๐ธ
Today is the first time Iโve seen
@staceyabrams
since she announced her bid for Governor. She could have been anywhere in the state, but she chose to be with the AAPI community on the anniversary of the horrific shooting that left 8 people dead, including 6 Asian women. ๐
I'm in Norcross with my friend Congresswoman
@lucymcbath
and we're reminding voters to vote early and to vote in person. We're using our voice to fight for reproductive rights, voting rights, & commonsense gun measures.
Early voting is happening TODAY all across Georgia!
When I saw the South Vietnamese flag flown during last weekโs attempted coup, I felt deep anger & shame. I decided to wear my Viet รกo dร i to take the oath of office โ because they donโt get to speak for me. While my family couldnโt be here, Iโm grateful for my beloved colleagues.
Exactly four years ago, I was elected to the Georgia legislature โ to serve in the seat vacated by
@staceyabrams
. Now, Iโm running for Secretary of State โ and Stacey is running for Governor. Letโs go ๐๐
Though the majority of Americans did not support this decision, President Jimmy Carter did it anyway. My parents were among the people he resettled and welcomed. Thank you for giving them a second chance at life. Happy 98th birthday, Jimmy Carter! ๐
My door got knocked for the first time this general cycle! For Senator
@ReverendWarnock
: for voting rights, women's rights, economic opportunity, & fairness and equality in our democracy.

๐ I'm in Valdosta, Georgia with my friend
@ReverendWarnock
, and we're reminding voters to vote early. You can vote today, tomorrow, or Friday. Election Day is Nov. 8! Let's get it done!
๐ Good morning, Georgians! Meet
@ReverendWarnock
and me at 10AM in Douglasville at Rainfire Arena to kickoff canvassers! Saturday voting is open in ALL 159 counties in Georgia today. Go vote today!
This 93-year-old veteran served in Vietnam. He told us he was the second oldest person at the One Georgia rally in Liberty County. Thank you for your service! ๐๐บ๐ธ
I just finished a 13 hour poll watching shift. The precinct manager & the poll workers were stellar. And the church staff was incredible. Kudos to all election workers & staffers who help sustain our democratic process!
Five years ago, I was elected in a special election to fill the vacancy left by Stacey Abrams. I brought my Dad, who was imprisoned by his government. Today is my last day โ it hasnโt been easy. Thank you to all for your kindness, grace, faith โ and for fighting alongside me. ๐
GA State Rep. Bee Nguyen

on the sheriff who seemed to excuse the murder suspect:
"I think that our country has always been reluctant to admit that systemic racism is a real problem that can be deadly."
Listen to this, all of this.
OLIVIA MUNN tweeted about me! Both of us are daughters of Viet refugees (both my parents, her mother). And seeing her on screen has always been important to me because representation matters! โค๏ธ
We are done with โShoot First,โ or โStand Your Ground.โ You can defend yourself all day long, but if you want to chase down a 17-year-old boy with a bag of Skittles in his hand & murder him, youโll have no ground to stand on.
Dropped today โ bill number coming soon!
Iโm officially on the ballot as a candidate for Georgia Secretary of State! Since I announced 10 months ago, Iโve traveled across Georgia, earned the endorsements of 100+ elected officials & raised over $1 million. And Iโm fighting for our democracy every day. Letโs Nguyen this!
#MyNameIs
Nguyen. I pronounce it โWIN.โ Nguyen stems from the Chinese wordย โruanโ โ a string instrument that is plucked. According to the 2010 Census, itโs the 37th most common surname in the U.S. Itโs even on a coke bottle!
Can
@CocaCola
put
@KamalaHarris
on a bottle?
Ahead of this hearing, I understood the potential repercussions of speaking the truth โ this is an untenable position for many elected officials & election workers. But itโs our duty & responsibility to seek the truth and defend our democracy. I did my homework โ facts matter.
Good morning from Columbus, Georgia! Before
@ReverendWarnock
was our Senator, he fought alongside us to protect Sunday voting in Georgia. I trust him to continue the fight for federal voting rights protection.
I join millions of Americans in thanking
@JoeBiden
for a half century of public service!
Iโve been proud to work alongside him & our very able Vice President,
@KamalaHarris
. I am proud to endorse her candidacy to be the next President of the United States.

My sister's flight got canceled yesterday morning -- so she drove 3.5 hours from Tahoe to Oakland to catch another flight (plus a layover in Austin). She finally made it home at 1 AM, so she could cast her ballot to vote in today's runoff Election.
Let's do this, Georgia! ๐

In 2020, the Secretary of State sent an investigator to one of the precincts in my district โ with firearm on hip โ and demanded all food & water to be removed. Giving away gas vouchers & Herschel Walker flyers at the same time isnโt legal. Are they gonna do something about it?
1๏ธโฃ We need Congress to pass HR1 to act as a shield against state legislatures and voter suppression laws
2๏ธโฃ We need corporations in Georgia to take a stand for their consumers & workers. Do yโall want people waiting up to 11 hours to vote?
3๏ธโฃ We need Congress to pass HR1
I hate to break the news to Republicans but โtypically non-votersโ are very much voters. They have the right to vote in any election, so long as theyโre registered. And yes, voters do get to decide the outcome.
I went to cure the ballot for my 70-year-old neighbor. He forgot to sign the outer envelope. His hands were shaky; he said he would try his best. He doesnโt have an e-mail account, so we used mine. We should talk about voter disenfranchisement โ because that is the real story.
It's hard to eat on the campaign trail, but we had 15 minutes to spare, so we stopped to grab street tacos at El Sol Taqueria in Norcross. My favorite meal on the trail in the last 17 months. Go get yo'self a carne asada street taco here! ๐ฎ
Georgians: we didn't get the results we wanted in this race, but I remain inspired by the people in our state. For 18 months, I shared with Georgians my family story: my dad's incarceration by his government & my parents fleeing their country in the middle of the night on a boat.
I asked our Lyft driver if he was voting in the runoff. He said "probably." I told him we knew
@ReverendWarnock
personally. We talked about his fight for healthcare, voting rights & capping the cost of insulin. He said he felt better about his vote & would tell others, too!
๐Good morning, Georgia! Get out & vote today. We have Saturday voting in select counties, thanks the work of pro-voting rights folks, including Senator
@ReverendWarnock
!
House Bill 531, the omnibus voter suppression bill, is based on lies & conspiracy theories. If Georgia Republicans want to win elections, try coming up with policies that work for the people โ instead of trying to silence Georgia voters.
Talking to
@Acosta
about the 1,000 ballots that weren't sent to Cobb voters. For those in Georgia, you can vote in person Tuesday. If you receive your ballot before Tuesday, don't mail it. Drop it off at your county election office. For others, Fedex your ballot if you can.
Thereโs no womenโs bathroom on the 4th floor of the Capitol. If you sit in the gallery like me, you have haul a$$ up & down the stairs in a pair of heels on marble floors to go to the bathroom between bills. Itโs a 90 second drill. Happy Womenโs Day!

If you accuse Georgians of committing a felony & attach their full names & address to a lawsuit, the least you should do is contact them. Thatโs why I drove to my constituentโs house โ when I told her she was accused of voting in Virginia, she said she had never even been there.

Yโall, we made it to a runoff with over 44 percent of the vote! Thank you so much to everyone for helping us get this far โ we have four weeks to cross the finish line. Please save the date for June 21 runoff Election Day! Letโs go! ๐
In 2018, Georgia Republicans tried to eliminate Sunday voting in an attempt to get rid of Souls to the Polls. Guess what? They failed.
Letโs take advantage of tomorrow โ Sunday early voting in DeKalb, Fulton, Gwinnett, Chatham, Richmond, Henry, Rockdale, Floyd.

We have a history of violence against Asian Americans in this country โ including an immigration exclusion act directed at an entire continent. The rise in AAPI hate crimes is a continuation of the brutality AAPIs have endured since the inception of this country.
