A new episode of Abridged is out today - "Singing Bridges."
It's about Jodi Rose, a composer who records the vibrations inside bridges' cables. She's an absolute delight.
I love this episode and I hope you do, too. Listen (preferably with 🎧 on):
My favorite genre of tweet tonight: people who think they’re seeing the aurora in NYC but in fact are just seeing the lights from the Kosciuszko Bridge reflected in the clouds
Pour one out for the unsung heroes of the podcast industry: work-from-home audio engineers who turn off their loud AC on a 92-degree day to hear the mix properly
(please validate me I am schvitzing over here)
When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie, it may not be amore at all, but a ghostly white barn owl about to kill and eat you. If you’re a vole, that is.
This American Life put out a rerun this week ("Switched at Birth").
Started listening & within seconds I was transported to the last time I heard this episode, 10 YEARS AGO, on a Metro North back to college from spring break.
Podcast-based place memories are wild.
Life update: I make podcasts at
@Marvel
now!
Today was my first day and I’m very very stoked.
(I also hate my ID photo, so this is my new superhero mask)
*small talk at the hair salon today*
Me: Have you been watching anything good lately?
Stylist: I'm about to finish this cool show called Archive 81, have you--
Me, way too quickly: DID YOU KNOW IT'S BASED ON A PODCAST
I'm thrilled to share that Abridged, my podcast about bridges, will be premiering at
@tribeca
this June! It's an official
@TribecaAudio
selection.
The whole lineup looks stellar & I'm humbled to be among so many creators I admire. I can't wait. 🌉💙
My real career goal is to be a curly-haired-podcast-producer influencer.
I’d write articles like “10 Ways to Wear Over-Ear Headphones That Don’t Flatten Your Curls”
And “What I Learned About My Hair From Untangling XLR Cables”
Things I have in common with the audio transcription/editing app Descript:
-always trying to become a better version of myself
-having constant breakdowns in the process
I used to tweet more podcast recs - shouting out shows that surprised, challenged, or inspired me in some way.
I want to start doing that again - mostly to peer-pressure myself into listening to new things! Kicking it off in this thread. 🎙️
This is my podcast log, where I write down every episode I listen to. It doubles as a journal.
I start one every year & usually slack off by now, but this year I’ve made it all the way to June!
Thanks to this, I know that I’ve listened to 248 podcast eps so far this year. 👻
Just resurrected my old iPod touch, which has not connected to WiFi (or updated its podcast feed) in nearly a decade.
The nostalgia (podstalgia?) is real.
I produced a podcast with the
@metmuseum
and it's here! 12 stories of people finding healing & respite through art. 🎨
I'll admit, "making a podcast for The Met" was not on my 2021/22 bingo card. It was an honor to build this show with the Met team &

How can art help us heal? How does art bring us comfort? How can art support our individual and communal well-being, especially during times of struggle and stress?

Just bounced the final mix for the final episode of THE SOUND: Mystery of Havana Syndrome. It comes out on Monday.
I hope you’ll tune in with us for this closing chapter.
I have been running a lot and editing a lot lately. This is how it’s manifested in my brain 😅
(Feel free to send me additions, I feel like there’s more)
Some personal/professional news: Friday was my last day at
@Marvel
.
As I move on to new audio adventures, I can't describe how much I learned from this job & the dream team of people there. But I'll try to scratch the surface. (1/6)
I’m thrilled to share a podcast I’ve been working on with
@FT
&
@GoatRodeoDC
. Introducing Untold: The Retreat.
It's an investigation into a network of intensive meditation retreats, where some people suffer deeply.
Trailer is out now; Ep. 1 drops 1/24.
In my freshman year of college, I had my first radio show. It aired Thursday nights at 2AM.
My family stayed up to listen. Truck drivers called in sometimes.
I was sleepy and caffeinated and I loved it so much.
Anyway, happy

I just had an out-of-body experience in which my dentist explained This American Life to me while his hands were in my mouth.
Dentist: “See, there’s a theme, and three or four stories based on that theme.”
Me: 😦
Glamorous things I spend time on for my job:
-searching for geographically accurate bird sounds
-searching for outdoor ambi that has ZERO bird sounds to avoid geographic inaccuracy
-making sure I'm not actually just hearing birds outside my window & getting confused
I am at
@PodcastMovement
in the sense that I am moving around my apartment while listening to podcasts.
(…is what I’m telling myself in order to avoid FOMO)
Over the moon to share that Borrowed & Banned from
@BKLYNlibrary
got nominated for a Peabody!!
I’m so grateful I got to play a part in putting this podcast together. Huge congrats to
@vrosemarshall
& everyone at BPL who made it happen.

Can’t believe I’m doing such shameless self-promo the day after Yom Kippur but: a podcast I sound designed is nominated for Best Sound Design in the

If you enjoyed The Sound, you can vote for it below - it’s super quick. Thank you! 🎧🌀
My goal for yesterday’s Brooklyn Half was to run it in 2 hours or less, but I hesitated to say it out loud because I wasn’t 100% sure I could do it.
Anyway, I ran it in 1:59:04. 😅💙
Thank you
@nyrr
+ all your volunteers for that beautiful journey to Coney Island!
Some days I have a decent attention span, and some days I suddenly realize that I can make my EQ look like the boa constrictor swallowing an elephant in Le Petit Prince.
Sneak peek at Ep. 1 of THE SOUND, a deep-dive investigation into the phenomenon known as Havana Syndrome.
True to its name, this podcast has been a sonic adventure like no other.

Listening to the newly minted

soundtrack as I work on a...very special project. 👀 All I have to say is that these track titles are giving me life right now.
(Also, goes w/o saying that
@Cowpocalyptic
is a musical genius)
I’m not ashamed to admit I look over people’s shoulders on the subway. All the time.
Today it paid off when I discovered I was sitting next to a U.S. senator.
Last night I reached a new personal low (dreaming that I was trapped inside a life-sized, 3-dimensional Pro Tools session).
My subconscious is a tortured place that is also extremely on-brand ☠️
Good morning to all my new followers!
I mostly tweet about podcasts and the NYC subway (both of which are canonically Jewish, obviously).
You can catch all my work here:
I didn’t take a single photo at
@onairfest
yesterday but my friend Maggi caught me thinking about galaxies in the

room upstairs.
Grateful to reunite with friends from so many corners of the audio universe this weekend. 💙
If you told me a year ago that I would soon be joining the
@Marvel
podcast team, I would have laughed and maybe cried a little.
Feeling so lucky and so excited for what 2020 has in store. 🎙💛💫

I'm very stoked to be starting a new gig this week as a Managing Producer at
@GoatRodeoDC
!
I'm lucky to be joining this very cool, quickly growing team. And I spent my first day the way all first days should be spent: digging into a bunch of tape.
I'm thrilled to share the trailer for Cornbread Mafia, out today.
It's a podcast about the legendary cannabis growers of central KY—where the weed is strong, but the code of silence is stronger.
Making this show was a wild ride. Subscribe now:
You haven’t lived until you’ve had to awkwardly explain what kinds of podcasts you make to two lawyers in a jury selection room!
(I did a middling job at best)
(They selected me anyway 😅)
Another fun new thing: I mixed the first episode of Person of the Week,
@TIME
's first original podcast—out today!
This show is produced by a fantastic team & comes out of the gate strong, with an illuminating conversation with Ethan Hawke. More great interviews coming weekly. 🎧
EXCLUSIVE: Time has unveiled Person of the Week, its original podcast, hosted by Senior Correspondent Charlotte Alter, which will feature candid conversations with people shaping our world. Ethan Hawke and Elliot Page are set to be among the first guests
WFH hack:
1. Plug in MIDI keyboard, out of sight from your camera
2. Make sure your headphones are on
3. Live-score your meetings with dramatic sound effects
Stoked to be back at
@Tribeca
! Will be bopping around all week with my fellow goats (
@GoatRodeoDC
). Excited to celebrate audio projects old and new.
Say hi if you see us!
It's here! All eight episodes of THE SOUND are out now. And this final episode has some surprises.
Sonically, this is one of the most challenging things I've ever worked on. Proud to have worked with a stellar team on this complex, evolving story.
Just bounced the final mix for the final episode of THE SOUND: Mystery of Havana Syndrome. It comes out on Monday.
I hope you’ll tune in with us for this closing chapter.
Over the past year, our podcast team at
@Marvel
has been cooking up a bunch of incredible new shows. I'm so excited we finally get to announce them today.
Sneak peek at Episode 1 of ALLIES, a podcast that tells the stunning 20-year story of how the US failed its local eyes & ears in Afghanistan.
Episodes 1 & 2 drop on Monday. Subscribe so you don’t miss it:
