So Bravern has dropped all pretenses and innuendo at this point, I'm just watching a gay robot show without any layers of irony separating me from it. Very impressive how Bravern very slowly pulled me out into deeper and deeper waters.
The best parts of Twin Peaks were when it randomly decided to hit you w/ extremely beautiful and tender scenes out of nowhere with a character you wouldn't expect. This is my personal favorite example:
People have noticed the engrish in Bravern, but I don't think it gets enough credit for just how good it is. The intonation and timing is almost completely correct here.
WAIT I JUST REALIZED THE REASON DENJI OFFERED HER A STARFISH WAS BECAUSE HE WAS ACTUALLY LISTENING TO HER FACTOIDS I'M SO STUPID

The fact we had two Gundam properties in succession that had a scene where a Gundam squashed someone is just amazing. What a time to be alive. Suletta was just learning from the GOAT.

Now picturing Nayuta having hundreds of OCD requirements for everyone who comes over to the apartment, and anyone who breaks them gets Power'd

My favorite Harvey Weinstein story was of him getting made fun of at a party by Norm Macdonald. Seems to me all the good ones hated Weinstein's guts.
"Amuro, Char told me if I wanted to be a great Gundam protagonist like you I had to squash someone like an overripe tomato, but now my wife won't talk to me!"
"Excuse me, Char told you WHAT?"

Bravern trying to have a cool Vegeta post-death motivational scene here, but Isami is not having it. Honestly, that's the correct response to your dead friend showing up naked in a dream sequence.
Like how GaoGaiGar is gradually accumulating tools over the course of the series. He's like Batman. Actually, now that I think about it, he has a bat signal too.
I also like that there's a logical progression: They introduce the Goldion Hammer, but it's dangerous to use...
Turn A Gundam really tapped into a unique feeling of dread with this episode. Watching people who don't know what nukes are handle armed nukes is like watching a toddler play with a blowtorch. Sort of reminds me of a similar scene from X where Garrod sets off a nuclear meltdown
Lulu beating the ever loving shit out of Isami at every opportunity is one of my favorite jokes in Bravern.
She literally travelled back to the past, and she immediately choked him out, just for old time's sake.
The final fight in GaoGaiGar actually felt smaller in scale than the one on Jupiter, but I think that actually worked to its benefit. It felt brutal and personal, with GaoGaiGar and Zonuda just tearing each other apart.
"He's also sensitive, and a little delicate."
Bro, why did Bravern feel the need to go into that much detail on Smith's hygiene routine? Also, Isami's reaction to it, lmfao
Ep 9 of Bravern was the most batshit episode of TV anime I have seen in a while. It had no jokes, the ridiculousness was played completely straight.
I am not joking when I say there are multiple parts that evoked a genuine emotional response from me. This scene gave me chills.
For some reason it didn't click with me until this episode just how big a size difference there is between King J-Der and GaoGaiGar. Bro swatted him away.
Another thing I like about this week's episode of Bravern, is Miyu noticing Superbia has a hot voice. It's very common for villains to have attractive voices, but rarely is it commented on in universe.
So. I finished Betterman. Bit of a wild ride, and the finale definitely went to some dark places. It almost bordered on nihilism at some points, but the larger themes of birth and death being a necessary part of evolution - and a necessary part of life.
Also, never expected Mikoto to have potentially the coolest payoff in GaoGaiGar, literally flying through space to initiate the Final Fusion one last time.
Impressive how GaoGaiGar is able to instantly make me root for these pliers just by making one of them a bit of a fuckup. Like, do your goofy dance, little fella, you did your best 🥲
Sort of a gap moe vibe to it.
Bruh, I am experiencing some serious whiplash here. The GGG is MIA, GaoGaiGar has had his shit pushed in, and now Falco over here is back with his own mech in his own small child.
First episode of GaoGaiGar Final was good, liking all the new characters. Renais specifically is awesome - an immediate mag dump w/out any hesitation is certainly a good first impression.
Mic Sounders the 13th, more than any other character in GaoGaiGar (so far), straddles the line between being incredibly goofy and also the coolest thing ever. I love him.
Episode 37 of GaoGaiGar is more focused on plot and character moments, but I feel I need to mention HyouRyuu and EnRyuu doing this awesome spinning attack, and then riding atop an energy dragon.
So Lulu didn't know Bravern was Smith from the beginning, she went through an entire timeline where she legit thought he died that day, before finally experiencing the Usual Suspects realization right at the end, before traveling back in time to her first appearance.
I feel like GaoGaiGar is throwing a lot at me these last 2 eps, but this scene in particular really stands out. This is the first time Gai has truly felt mortal, especially in front of Mamoru. Gai is at his lowest point here.
You know you're doing something crazy when even Taiga is like, "WHAT?"
(Bit of a warning for flashing lights on this one, they really like using that strobe effect during the ChoRyuJin transformations)
(Her voice seemed really familiar, so I had to go check. Her VA has been in a lot of stuff, but most importantly she played the best girl in Godannar.)
Really hoping ChouRyuuJin isn't actually dead for good, cause this is a really fucked up way to go. Especially considering all the stuff he survived in GaoGaiGar.
Goldymarg truly is the most based character in GaoGaiGar. Regardless of the situation, his immediate solution is to punch his way out of it. People could stand to learn from his example.
"Have you lost your mind?"
He never had it in the first place, get sucked bozo.
