River levels continuing to rise in the lower Burdekin River into tomorrow. Roughly 16,000 cubic metres of water is currently flowing over #BurdekinFallsDam every second, the equivalent of 16,000 fully grown salt crocs being flushed down the river every second #qld #floods 🐊

An unusual sight on the Toowoomba weather camera this morning. Not only is there freezing fog (fog when the temperature is below 0), but there is a fogbow. A freezing fogbow! A fogbow is the less colourful cousin of a rainbow🌈, read more here:

Tropical Cyclone Advice has been reissued, TC Kirrily has been upgraded to a Category 3 Severe Tropical Cyclone with wind gusts near the centre expected to reach 165km/h. The TC is expected to cross the coast near Townsville tonight:

We've crunched the numbers and the 681mm recorded in 24 hours to 9am Saturday the 16th of December at Halifax in #NQld is a new Australian December daily rainfall record☔. I.e. No location in Australia has ever recorded more rainfall in a day in December. Now that's wet!

The Bureau can confirm a tornado from a supercell thunderstorm touched down near @BrisbaneAirport about 10am today. Radar evidence was supportive of a tornado and video evidence showed it lasting less than a minute or two. Latest #QLDweather

7pm TC update: Severe Tropical Cyclone Kirrily's destructive to very destructive eye wall is now moving onto the coast around Townsville, with wind gusts to 170 km/hr possible. Landfall expected in next hour or two, though impacts continuing after that.

Fact that makes you go WOW!: From 1950 to this year, Mackay Airport has observed only two days above 36C in November. Yesterday it was 37.8C, today 37.6C, and we are forecasting temps above 36C the next five days. That would mean seven consecutive days above 36C! #QldHeatwave

Yep - it's warm 🌡️out there today! Noted in #SEQ that the sea breeze didn't beat the westerly and the temperature in Brisbane was 36.6°C at 2pm. That's the warmest Oct day since 2004 (38.7°C). Cooler temperatures in the south tomorrow, warm in the north.
