The fact that so many fans of the "big clubs" are this engaged with #BHAFC fans on here, trying to put us in our place, suggests that Brighton is, in fact, a club on the rise & a real concern to them. Regardless of their past glory, we are now among their rivals & they know it.

Brighton’s clean sheet win over Everton in today’s season opening match is especially noteworthy with last year as a back drop. Last season, #BHAFC ’s first clean sheet win in the #PremierLeague came on February 18 at Sheffield United in our 25th PL match of the season.

In Tony Bloom’s tenure since 2009, there’s only been one season in which #BHAFC dropped more than two places in the table from one year to the next. Brighton has risen from 16th in League One (08-09) all the way up to 6th in the PL this year. That’s 54 places ⬆️ in 14 years.

#BHAFC spent £86.6m on 4 transfers (Pedro, Baleba, Verbruggen, Igor), none of whom were on the pitch to start yesterday. They are learning the system & earning RDZ’s trust. I don’t think we are seeing close to the best version of what this team can look like later in the season.

THREAD: I often hear about Brighton’s wage structure, w/long-time fans noting that #BHAFC won’t break it to sign big players. Until this season, that’s been true in terms of total wages, but we’ve seen a real rise in terms of average player salary during the club’s PL era. 1/12

After 11 matches last season, #BHAFC had 15 pts. This season, it’s 18 pts from 11. That +3/11 games pace of improvement would have Brighton finish 11 pts better than last season’s 62. 73 pts has been good enough for Top 5 in 9 of the last 10 years & Top 4 in each of the last 5.

Realistically, #BHAFC will now have to really fight & play well to climb to 6th again. Europa League still offers a path to Champions League & the FA Cup offers an additional path back to Europa League. All is not lost, but the battle is tougher for having let today slip away.

I’m expecting Carlos Baleba to start for #BHAFC tomorrow. He started, played 68 minutes, and drew the most fouls (5) in Lille’s 2-1 win over Marseille on May 20. He should certainly be as or more familiar with OM than any of his teammates. Really hope to see him on the pitch!
