Explaining "Privilege" to Cyclists.
As cyclists, we all face a constant battle for acceptance on the road. We have to constantly justify our existence. We have to justify why we deserve to be on the road with other road users like motor vehicles.

Congratulations to Jo for completing her first 100 mile ride at a strong 14.5+ mph average speed on a hilly route yesterday. Jo started riding with us during lockdown. She quickly progressed from flat pedals to cleats and now she has completed her first century. ❤💛💚🖤

At BCN we focus on the fundamentals to prepare our rider for any given situation. We teach our riders to make good decisions and remain composed at all times.

What to do when approaching a horse rider.
1. Slow down
2. Keep talking to let the horse and rider know that a human being is passing.
3. If you do not communicate, the horse will pick up the foreign sound of your flywheel and get spooked.
Cycling remains quiet, seemingly uninterested, at a time when nearly every popular sport has expressed some form of symbolic solidarity in support of Black Lives against the evil of white supremacy. Silence is complicity.

One of the questions we often get is why is a project like Black Cyclists Network needed in cycling? Like most things, it is difficult to enter a space made up of people who do not look like you. 1/3
We are pleased to hear that Police Officer Derek Chauvin has been convicted for the "murder" of George Floyd. However, this is simply a reminder that a "bad apple" has finally been held accountable against all odds. This is not justice. We have to change the system.

Whenever black people ask 4 justice & equality, this is the usual response.
1. Stop complaining
2. Find an "appropriate" way to protest
3. Leave politics out of this
4. What about that over there
People like that are not interested in change. They want to maintain their power.
