I'm back reading my favourite author, very carefully and very slowly. I have to stop after every couple of pages to absorb Donal Ryan's powerful and moving prose. Every sentence is perfect, every word is precisely balanced. Beautiful, breathtaking, joyous writing! A true master!
It's no news that I'm a huge fan of Donal Ryan, but I had occasion today to look again at the first para of The Spinning Heart. Like the first time I read it, it made me gasp. When I'm a grown-up writer, I want to write like this. I have no words to describe how great this is!
