Malaysian reality-singing TV producers love to ‘test’ contestant by throwing all kinds of songs at them, kononnya ‘artist versatile’ la tu. 🙄 I think it confuses the viewers, and that hurts the artistes’ image in the long run.
Malaysian ‘TV Hiburan’ does it again.
It’s all about the drama, isn’t it? Lagi banyak ‘Komen Pedas’, lagi bagus. Panas! Viral! Dah jadi issue! Yeay!
And apparently we, the audience, love that kind of thing too.
Kpd ‘busker’ yang perform kat Subang Parade, depan Parkson at 5pm tadi… you have a really nice voice. Loved yr rendition of ‘Malam Bulan Di Pagar Bintang’. 👍👍🔥
Finally, to all True Music Fans, pls remember this:
A great music scene is about ‘having a variety of genres and artistes’.
NOT ‘artistes doing a variety of genres’.
Sekian,
Your friendly neighbourhood Music Director. :-)
Penat tapi Puas!
#SitiNurhaliza
just KILLED it!! So happy to see her at the top of her game again!! Her hard work totally berbaloi!
To the band and orchestra, thank you for playing so beautifully. You guys made the arrangements come alive!!
#SebuahEpitomeSayaSitiNurhaliza
And if you really need to ‘throw songs’ at them for the sake of entertainment, judges need to be wise and comment accordingly. For example, how can you give a female artiste an aggressive male song then say she’s not ‘man enuff’?
22.2.22
Today is also the death anniversary of Allahyarham Sudirman Hj Arshad.
Many don’t know this, but I was his last Music Director before he passed on. He was such an amazing entertainer, I always loved playing his shows. Learned so much!
RIP dear abang Sudir! 💙
Name ONE big artiste who’s ‘versatile’! Yeah, maybe they can do a few diff genres well, but I know for a fact, they stay away from the genres that don’t suit them.
Really, is versatility that important?
Personally, I feel ‘on-air humiliation’ needs to stop. Nak marah, walk into the artistes changing room lepas show. But yes, humiliation does make great TV! Plus, it takes a lot of musical knowledge to make comments that build & correct. Not many have that. Right, Syafinaz?
Personally, I would never judge any song cover rendition and compare them to the original. The whole point of redoing it, especially if you’re not the original artiste, is to bring the artistes’ spin to it. THAT, is music. That’s being creative.
Kenapalah kita obses sangat about who’s No 1? Who cares? It’s music. Not sport. Not politics. Winner doesn’t take all.
Bila I suka lagu/artiste, no99 pun okay je. Sbb I yg enjoy.
“Kalau kerja bagus, nak letak nombor apa pun kita tak peduli.”
Bole tak kita switch the focus to highlight the Strengths (and Uniqueness) of the Artiste rather than seek to humiliate them? Remember former American Idol winner Adam Lambert? Apa2 lagu pun, dia buat STYLE ADAM LAMBERT. That’s Music, that’s Styling, that’s Artistic Development!
@TomokOfficial
remains a Class Act! Young singers, watch and learn the poise, the pitching, and the control that he has. Actually this is a really good video of what to do, and what NOT to do. 😂😂

Then again, I did tweet something earlier saying these programs are made for entertainment. Apparently, a section of Malaysian audiences love it. The more drama, the better.
I should just take my own advice and switch off. 🙈
Inside scoop!
Kali ni satu team mmg ONZ. Everyone onstage, tech crew, lights, sound, caterers, etc…! The vibe was sooo good, senang kerja.
Work with good & competent people, you often get good results!!
Tambah lagi audience mcm semalam… 🔥🔥

If they succeed, applaud the effort. If they fall flat on their face, it really wasn’t their fault.
But I wonder, “who’s stupid idea was it to do that song in the first place?” And “why?”
Anyhow, to all artistes who have been criticised on TV. Chin up! You do YOU! Improve as much as you can but always STAY TRUE to your musical strengths & styling. If u really have to join these TV shows and end up getting criticised, know that the programming is broken, not you.
But here, every week 'TV Hiburan' expect artistes to be ‘versatile’, and throw ‘every genre known to man’ and expect a Performance. Kalau Blackpink kat sini, we will probably expect them to do ‘Asli’ one day. Kelakar, tak?
Here’s the problem from a musical standpoint. Music genres are often so different, it requires diff strengths, styling, and talent. Would you expect a footballer to be a great tennis and hockey too?
Paling best la, watching all the fans singing along w CTDK at
#SebuahEpitomeSayaSitiNurhaliza
These are the things we don’t get to see onstage.
Oh btw, it’s on Astro Ria. NOW!
Example, keroncong needs a relatively big smooth voice, kena tahu lenggok (turns) dia, and is sung with a soft ‘laid back’ style. Rock pulak needs a slightly edgy vocal, less lenggok (more 'straight') and needs to be sung with an ‘attack’ mindset. See the difference?
FOUR personal AIM awards:
1. Best Music Arrangement
2. Best Engineered Album
3. Best Engineered Song
4. Best Pop Ethnic Song
I am beyond thrilled! Just so thankful, grateful, and humbled.
Thank you to everyone who continues to have faith in my work.
Seriously, if your fav Malaysian artiste releases an album (or single), how do you guys support them? Setakat dengar kat streaming platform je ke?! Cos releasing music involves $$.

On Tour to listen to! To all the musicians (and BV’s too) involved, thank you for playing your hearts out. Awesome work! And of course, credit to DSCT who proved she can sing/perform a 2 and a half hr concert so incredibly well!
Success by a Malaysian-born person doesn’t mean anything, really. Would they have achieved the same if they remained in this country?
In fact, it makes me sad to think their success happened BECAUSE they left, for whatever reasons.
So, AIM (Anugerah Industri Muzik) is back. Gotta say, I’m feeling quite thankful for the 7 nominations I rcvd. Thankful cos I was still able to do what I loved during lockdown. And now, just being recognized as 'Top 5’ by your musical peers has special meaning to it!
When u are a good person on the inside, when you treat everyone around you with respect, when you stay grounded despite being amazing at your job and what you do, when your heart is in the right place......
Of course, some artistes can easily perform multiple genres, but is that really all we want? Is that sooo important? Do we love Anuar Zain & Sheila Majid cos they’re 'versatile'?
BTW, I LOVE Ella's 'Jauh Di Mata' but even she did it 'cara Ella'. Ella = ROCK Queen!
@fzlthmn
@yunamusic
This just shows how amazingly
@yunamusic
can vocally ‘style’ a song. The cleverly placed vibratos, slurs, coupled with impeccable expression… ooohh. Young singers gotta learn this skill. This is styling at its BEST.
Ketika

Hmmmm! 😱 Words spoken by an ‘Legend’?! Sebab ni lah aku pantang digelar ‘otai’. In the music industry, u gotta keep up with the changes and developments... or else you’re irrelevant, no matter what yr reputation is.
Said it before and I’ll say it again. Every artiste has his/her own sound & personality. That’s what makes music so awesome, the diversity! If you don’t like it, it reflects badly.. on YOU! Don’t like? Don’t listen. That’s cool. But stop putting it down.
Sitism / Siti-ism
When I started my career I had the opportunity to work with Sudirman. In fact, he was the first artiste I MD’d for.
We did dinner shows almost every week. Great learning experience.
The reality is, we now have a generation of recording artistes who aren’t really singers, and on top of that there’s a ‘competition’ for them too. This is a thread about
#BigStage2020
One of my pet peeve, is when organisers spend lots of money on the artiste, only to ‘save’ on horrible sound system. As a performer, all that hard work is wasted cos whatever we prepared… no one really gets to hear it properly.
Dedicated to all of you

who ‘terkenang’ this song during the

when I first wrote it.
When I was offered an opportunity to do my own show with the MPO, I thought long and hard about inviting DSCT. Even after all these years working w her, I was still a little ‘segan’. But when I asked, she never hesitated to say ‘yes’.

When I was doing my Masters, my Supervisor, a respected Ethnomusicologist, said smthing that changed my perception of music:
"Refrain from passing judgement on any type of music. Just because it doesn’t fall within our taste, doesn’t mean it isn’t music to someone else’s ears.”
If I may say so myself… To hear the Gendang together with such lush Strings behind the voice of
@DayangNurfaizah
hits a totally different high for me.

Some artistes build careers on hype and trends. Nothing wrong with that.
But I’ve been blessed working w artistes who plan their careers around their aspirations and the music they love.
U know who u are.
Thank you for the music!
When r people gonna realise that getting non musicians to play instruments like the violin, piano, drums, gtr etc for props are never gonna look good. Unless you’re using Robert Palmer’s girls. 😉
#latenightrant
Couldn’t agree more.
I’m just gonna bury my head in work for a while.
And try to pray daily for all the innocent victims who are suffering.
My fellow Malaysians… peace and harmony is something we shd never take for granted.
This was an arrangement specifically made for DSCT and the MPO, I was so excited when she said she would make a special appearance for my show. What a memorable performance.
Persembhn Bersandar Cinta bagi I yg pling top notch. I rse lagu ni sesuai dgn iringan orchestra ya.
Dekat SNOT nampak mcm Siti penat atau mgkn dia sebak ya idk. kita tgu jela SNOT ye FILEM ya

When I hear abt artistes having off-day performances, I tend to look towards the Music Director (and by extension, the band) first. Great singers don’t become bad singers overnight. But music not done right can easily throw the best singers off their game.

Kita kat sini kena jaga ourselves. Peduli la anti-vaxers, anti-maskers dan Karen2 🙈 yang degil tu. It IS their choice. Let’s just be wise about OURS.
I told someone Tertulis Namamu is one of my favourites from

. That person, who is very involved in the production process, never told me who the songwriter was. 🤨 I think I just found out. Wow!!!
Sure, it’s great to have a string section at every ‘big’ music show. But music directors / conductors / bandleaders need to ensure that the strings play in tune, ya?
Repertoire kat Konsert Satu Suara Vol3 sgt2 unik kalau dibandingkan dgn kebanyakkan show yg I pernah buat. Can’t wait to perform them tonight.
If you’re cmg tonight, dun be shy to get up and dance. 🕺

As a Music Director, I’ve always tried to hire the best people to ensure the production ‘rocks’.
My hope for Malaysia, is that our next PM hires the best people for every portfolio in the next Cabinet. People with expertise and experience in the relevant fields.
Dear
@IsmailSabri60
Would you be kind enough to take some time off yr busy schedule to announce the SOPs for the double-vaccinated pls? The ‘gig industry’ workers really need to start working to earn a living again.
Work is essential to us in the ‘non-essential’ sector.
Hearing Awie sing up-close, is always such an amazing experience.
But when he sings Zapin, he takes his ‘Legend’ status to a new level.
Yes, I love my job!

Rigged ‘talent’ shows in Malaysia? Biased decisions? Seems like it’s been going on forever. True or not, u will enjoy these shows better once u accept it as it is. It’s entertainment after all.
If you can’t, just switch off.
From the way people make comments about music, whatever their intentions or however flowery way they put it, you kinda know how they actually feel about music in general.
On that note, much love to all the sincere music fans out there. YOU r the people we make music for.
I’m a huge advocate (aku support la) of other singers singing another artiste’s song. Why? Cos it adds variety and we see the potential of the song thru another’s interpretation. It’s not abt better/worse it’s about celebrating the uniqueness of the styling and personality.
But now, here it is! Especially for those of you who asked for it, and also for those of you who can’t wait to watch her ‘live’ during
#SitiNurhalizaOnTour
. Enjoy! Remember to come visit us on the Tour.
Singers and musicians who aren’t afraid to try new things and challenge themselves w new material are the ones that getter better over time.
Then there are those just doin’ the same ol’.
So much respect for the 1st group! Not so much for the 2nd. 😛
Some singers just have that tone that say ‘listen to me’. 🔥🔥
And then they are some that don’t. 🤷🏼
So grateful that I often get to work with the ones from da first group. 🙏🏻🙏🏻

U hv tht touch unique to every artist you work with.I cn distinguish ur work whn it is with Siti or whn it is wth others. Not to compare but in all honesty I strngly blv u knw Siti really well.U hv shaped the height in the quality of her vocal.U r a huge part of her success story.
As a Music Director, I hire musicians according to need. Like if the music only needs one guitarist, I won’t go & hire 3 guitarists cos I have 3 guitarist friends whom I need to please.
Oh, I also hire the fella who can actually do the job.
#JustSayin
Thank God we have artistes like DS Siti Nurhaliza, Dayang N, Dato’ M Nasir, Faizal Tahir… you know, the A-listers?! Their long careers, talent (and hard work) are great examples to younger artistes.
Hello fellow musicians.
Believe it or not, working on music all day every day can be draining. Remember to take breaks and step away from the studio when you need to.
Your mental health and creativity will thank you.

So bila ditanya atau di-interview tentang quality suara DSCT, I kerap pakai perkataan “Siti-ism”… sbb bila Siti menyanyi apa2 lagu pun,… ciri2, styling, kualiti dan suara Siti memang unik. Tiada lain sepertinya. Dengar sekejap pun dah kenal ‘itu Siti Nurhaliza’. 😂😛
There are some things that happen ‘once in a lifetime’. Like a child’s birth, a baptism, a wedding, maybe even meeting someone you admire.
So am I wrong to take off my mask for 30 seconds to take a pic that immortalises that precious moment?
#CovidDilemma
Twice this week, two amazing singers sang songs I didn’t particularly like (one on a recording session, and the other in rehearsal), and now I can’t stop listening to their versions!
Just shows what great singers can do to change one’s perception.

Dear music fans, if your fav artiste is putting out an album (in a world where everyone’s just releasing short lived singles), do support. Albums are milestones, a piece of history of a musical career, and a gift to fans. It should be cherished.
Saya minta maaf ya, jika perkataan 'dicipta-sendiri' saya menyebabkan kekeliruan. But that’s the best way I know to express my admiration for that VOICE!
Walau bagaimanapun, terima kasih DSCT kerana menggunakan SITISM sebagai tajuk album anda.
I am truly honoured!
As a songwriter I have learned that I should never ‘write the same song twice’. Always try to lead and present something different. Audiences evolve, people are intelligent enuff to know you’re using the same ‘tricks’. I hope a Leader and his scriptwriter learned that today.
