@leachfortexas
Jeff, do something about the guns! You represent my Mother and my sister and her family. Thank God they are safe. Why do I suspect this shooter also used an AR-15? Texans are tired of these mass shootings and you’re in a position to do something about it. Man up!
@JennaEllisEsq
Oh Jenna, hire a lawyer QUICK! And then seriously listen to them when they tell you to stop posting on Xwitter or opening your mouth. Your “God given right here” is the right to remain silent. Use it.
@Kerren71751864
@KennethCasaday
Wouldn’t it be great if it worked that way? When you don’t have enough officers there is no way priority calls can be dealt with as “priority.” Glad I don’t live in
@austintexasgov
. You get what your elected officials said you deserve. And I’m a Democrat.
I don’t see any issue with
@DallasPD
bringing in another agency like the
@Dallas_Sheriff
to work with them on the Brown case to make sure all bases are covered, as Lee
@MeritLaw
suggests, due to the circumstances in this case. It never hurts to have another set of eyes!
I’m glad that DPD believes they have the suspects in the Brown killing identified. All I ask is that they have another law enforcement agency take over to make sure all the bases are covered due to the circumstances in this case.
@LarryDeLuca
@_ReaalAmerican_
@GOP
All of my fellow Texas lawyers have a professional obligation to file a grievance against
@SidneyPowell1
for her reckless comments that are not based on law or evidence. An embarrassment to our profession.
5 years ago, at this time, I had a horrible car accident after my
@Medtronic
insulin pump tubing caused a massive infusion of insulin into my body causing me to lose consciousness while driving. I’m thankful that a 17 year old life guard was driving by who performed CPR.
@BMW
The fact that former
@fortworthpd
Officer
#AaronDean
quit as fast as he did signals he is following legal advice. He has no obligation to speak to criminal investigators as he has the same rights as any other suspect. Now that he quit, the Dept cannot compel a statement from him.
As we approach the 4th anniversary of the
@DallasPD
/
@dartmedia
PD ambush tomorrow, I ask everyone to remember that those 5 officers who laid down their lives that night did it to make sure those protesting had the right to do it. It’s important to honor their sacrifice. Even now.
This is the power of forgiveness. This brought tears to my eyes. What a powerful gesture from the
#Jean
family. First time I have ever seen this in my career. Wow. Just wow.
#BothamJean
’s younger brother addresses
#AmberGuyger
in court with some incredibly powerful words in his impact statement. After his statement, he begged to give Guyger a hug and Judge Tammy Kemp allowed it. WATCH LIVE:
#AmberGuygerTrial
@realDonaldTrump
I’ve seen lawyers record their clients,
@realDonaldTrump
, when they want to protect their own rear from a client who they don’t trust to tell the truth later on. And it’s perfectly legal. I thankfully have never had to do it, but I’ve never represented someone like you!
Appears the
@DallasPD
shooting suspect Armando Juarez (05-02-1988) failed to appear in Dallas Co District Court on a state jail felony Theft offense in February. District Judge
#DominiqueCollins
raised bond to $10,000 on Feb 5. So he shoots 2 officers and a civilian over that?😡
After the verdict convicting
#AmberGuyer
of Murder, she is NOT eligible for probation. She will face 5-99 years or life in prison. And, she will not being eligible for an appeal bond. So
#AmberGuyger
will be in prison while her case is appealed, which I expect to happen.
#AmberGuyger
Trial Update 2: Lawyers for Guyger have filed a “Notice of Appeal” of her murder conviction & 10 year prison sentence. This is mostly a procedural move, indicating that an appeal may be forthcoming. Guyger could still decide to not appeal this case.
I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas. My Dad died on Christmas morning in 2010. Christmas hasn’t been the same since. I try really hard but it never seems to get any easier. Cherish the time you have with your family - you never know when it will be their last Christmas. 😓
.
@DallasPD
shooting update: Sources telling me that police tried to get a warrant signed by a district judge yesterday for manslaughter but it was DENIED. Not surprising, as the appropriate charge is murder. Now Rangers look like they want to do a Grand Jury referral. ????!!!
With the official announcement of Dallas Co
@SheriffLupe
Valdez resignation to run for Governor of Texas, I’m preparing to file as a candidate for DalCo Sheriff in the Democratic Primary that will be now be held March 6, 2018. 2 years sooner then planned but excited about it!
What’s next for
#AmberGuyger
now she’s been arrested for manslaughter? The case will be filed w/ Dallas DA office & must be presented to Grand Jury. GJ will review & could still change the charge to something else (like murder). Or indict on manslaughter. Will take several weeks.
Exactly what
@DallasPD
didn’t need...the appearance of special treatment. Manslaughter is still the WRONG charge. This mistake will make
#AmberGuyger
defense more difficult & confuse jury as “Mistake of Fact” & “recklessness” are two distinct issues. Clearly not being understood.
It amazes me how much pushback the twitter world gives me when a fellow lawyer posts a very short video alleging “police brutality” & I ask him to get all the facts first before jumping to conclusions. God forbid I want to know all the facts first! Right??
Very excited that the
@CityOfDallas
City Council today approved my appointment by District 2 Councilman
@VoteAdamMedrano
to the Dallas Planning Commission. I will miss the Board of Adjustment but happy about my new role for my native City!
As expected,
#AmberGuyer
was just taken into custody by the Dallas Co Sheriff’s Office. Due to her conviction for murder, she no longer has a right to be free on bond. Judge did not allow the media to film or have anyone in the courtroom while it happened. Jury done for the day.
Watched
@ChiefHallDPD
presser this afternoon about off duty officer shooting. Chief mentioned “manslaughter.” We don’t know all the facts but if the officer’s “mistake of fact” wasn’t reasonable (thinking it was her own apartment) it’s murder, not manslaughter. Horrible situation
I sure wish there was a way for me to show everyone that 99.9% of police officers would NEVER do what those
@MinneapolisPD
officers did to
#GeorgeLloyd
. As a police officer, it breaks me to see violent protests in many large cities, including Dallas, targeting law enforcement.😔
@MeritLaw
That’s the big risk for her to appeal this case. IF the court of appeals sends the case back for a new trial, and she gets convicted again of murder, she could get sentenced anywhere from 5-99 years. Many defendants would decide against appeal because of that risk.
Why I can’t stand
@tedcruz
: as a young lawyer in 2009, I filed the first gay divorce case in Texas.
@tedcruz
was the solicitor general for then AG
@GregAbbott_TX
. He intervened in the case and fought us all the way. Because he can’t stand people not like him. Go
@BetoORourke
!
@tplohetski
Well, It appears it WAS Olson’s plan to take the 5th. Interesting the House managers wouldn’t call her to the stand and have her “take the 5th” under oath in front of the “jury” like in every other trial. Hopefully the details will be revealed at some point to explain!
@ArtAcevedo
Wow. More evidence that our bond system in this State is a mess. With this guys background and criminal history, the bond amount would actually be higher here in
@DallasCountyTx
, which also has a history of low bonds.
@HarrisCountyDAO
needs to file a motion to increase bond ASAP.
As one of my colleagues reminded me, law was changed where individuals convicted of murder are NOT eligible for an appeal bond. So
#AmberGuyer
will stay in prison while her case is appealed, as I fully expect.
Scene outside the hallway right now leading to the courtroom. Loud applause was heard from the courtroom when the verdict convicting
#AmberGuyer
if Murder was read. Lots of different feelings being expressed. Most lawyers expecting a lengthy appeal, as I expect as well.
Happy to have just cast a vote for you,
@BetoORourke
! As a moderate Democrat, I don’t agree with you on everything, but I know you will listen & meet with your constituents on important issues. Unlike
@tedcruz
who’s clearly just about himself. Texas deserves better in the Senate!
Want to know why Americans have a hard time trusting their government? Look at the reports of the elected & government officials who used confidential government information to avoid the losses in the market that the rest of us have suffered. They need to be punished. Harshly. 😡
This was the right decision. But it has become clear today that
@DallasPD
did not bother to consult with the DAs office before moving forward with a charge against this victim. I don’t understand why the PD doesn’t just pick up the phone & call the DAs office first!
@MeritLaw
After a lengthy car chase, the suspect related to today's shooting is in custody. Now, prayers are needed for the two officers fighting for their lives!
@CBS11Andrea
@amber_puga
And dismissed!
Bigger story here is yes, grand juries in Texas can go rogue and indict citizens for things that aren’t crimes. It’s rare, but it does happen. And I’ve seen it, unfortunately. Thank goodness for the 229th JD DA for following his oath and acting so quickly.
@GioBenitez
@AmericanAir
Gio,
@AmericanAir
was NEVER blocking middle seats. I’ve flown several times during the pandemic and the flights were very full, some 100%. Make them show proof of their claims. Likely they’ll refuse.
Well, tested positive on a rapid test 12/16, pos PCR on 12/17.
#OmicronVariant
. Took one tonight & NEG! Vaccines work! I was fully vaccinated
@moderna_tx
, with 2 boosters (I’m a Type 1 Diabetic)-2 shots in Jan, 1 in Aug, & 1 in Dec. Although breakthrough, had very mild symptoms.
The sentence of “10 years in prison, no fine,” is indicative of a “compromise verdict.”
#AmberGuyger
will serve 5 years in prison before she is eligible for parole. As a reminder, this is within the range of manslaughter (which is 2-20) & 5 years less then
#RoyOliver
received.
District Judge
#TammyKemp
has issued an Order to Show Cause to Dallas Co DA
@judgecreuzot
for the alleged violation of the Court’s “gag order” right before the
#AmberGuyger
trial. A contempt hearing is set for Oct 31, 2019 at 9:00am in the 204th District Courtroom. ⬇️⬇️😳😳😳
Has anyone else seen the vast increase of graffiti (“marking”) around Dallas? Especially on bridges and overpasses? That’s a direct result of the reduced
@DallasPD
marked police patrols. Im still waiting for a plan from the DPD command staff to fix the staffing problems.
I am deleting my tweet about the Brown case. I appreciate Lee
@MeritLaw
reaching out to me & us realizing we really want the same thing-that Joshua Browns killers are brought to justice & the we can trust our LE. Neither of us believe
@DallasPD
had anything to do with his murder!
Fire area has been extinguished by fire crews. I and all my neighbors out here tonight are VERY happy and thankful for all our
#firstresponders
working tonight to keep us safe.
@Victorshi2020
Question is if not
@GOPLeader
, then who? It doesn’t seem like anyone will get the votes needed with the 20 or so holdouts as none of the nominees by the holdouts have any support. But, I agree, doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result is insane. Lol
Still trying to find in affidavit where Ranger alleges she acted "recklessly"shooting Jean to support Mans. charge. The reading of affidavit now appears she may bring up 2 defenses at trial-"Mistake of Fact" & "Self-Defense." If no defense found, it's murder, not manslaughter.
#BREAKING
: Arrest warrant affidavit released in shooting death of
#BothamShemJean
by off-duty DPD Ofc. Amber Guyger. She's been charged with manslaughter.
Where is the Arrest Warrant Affidavit for
#AmberGuyger
Arrest for Manslaughter,
@TxDPS
Texas Rangers? The warrant has been served & therefore the affidavit is public record. Public has a right to know what’s in it, especially as it appears the Dallas DA didn’t agree with you.
Wow, that was fast. Former
@fortworthpd
Police Officer
#AaronDean
was just released from the
@tarrantcountyso
jail, after posting a $200,000 bond for Murder. Next step is the grand jury for a murder indictment led by the
@TarrantCountyDA
office. Still a long process ahead.
