This incredible mole was spotted swimming at Attenborough in the flood water today! 🥺
Amazing to see such resilience in a rarely seen species & brings hope that wildlife can survive & adapt to these events that are ever increasing in the face of climate change.

Celebrations here today now that

Paul (Chief Executive) & Phil (Head of the team responsible for fundraising) give thanks to everyone who has played their part whether staff, volunteers, donors and funders.
We did it!🤩🥳🍾
Recently spotted at Attenborough Nature Reserve - the firecrest 🔥
Firecrests are an unusual sight in this area - they are similar in size to the goldcrest, our smallest bird.

A moth not seen in Nottinghamshire for 120 years has appeared at Attenborough Nature Reserve! It was a real Easter surprise to find the Blossom Underwing in the moth trap this morning! One was last spotted in Sherwood Forest in 1899.
Recently spotted at Attenborough - the bittern! A rare and shy heron, it spends much of its time hidden away in reedbeds, where it feeds on eels and other fish. 🐟
We have also had sightings of Cetti's warbler, water rail, cattle egret, stonechat, and redwing. 👀

This bug has the only mechanical gears to ever be found in nature and it has just been spotted at Attenborough Nature Reserve. A first for Nottinghamshire it seems too! More on

After otters became extinct in Notts in the 1970s, Attenborough Nature Reserve was one of the first places they were recorded as they began returning to the county in the early 2000s.

We can confirm the mole was OK! The team were onsite assessing the floods and took the opportunity to film it coming towards them and to help but it found dry land by itself.
Operation Murmuration 2019 has begun! Some 10,000 birds have been performing their 'Aerial Ballet' every evening in the sky above Clifton Pond this week. Tim will be bringing you this and all the other latest news from Attenborough on

growing among the crisp packets, sandwich wrappers and plastic bottles! Hare's Foot Clover and Yellow Wort - two very uncommon plants in Notts. Proof that brownfield sites are great for wildlife!

Heard of a Tree Frog? Well this evening we found a Tree Newt! A smooth newt spotted 5ft up a tree, whilst we were doing a torch light spider survey.

Our beautiful rare breed longhorns are at Clifton Pond on Attenborough Nature Reserve, carrying out there conservation grazing duties.
See if you can spot them but please do keep dogs on leads.

NWT staff and volunteers were left feeling angry and frustrated after the theft of vital tools and equipment, as well as damage to storage units and a catering pod on Monday night left the charity facing a bill of up to £10,000.

Remember how dangerous icy ponds and lakes can be. If you are visiting any wetlands during freezing temperatures, please ensure that none of your group ventures on to the ice. Please also remember to keep all dogs on leads to keep them safe to.

in Beeston for helping us save our wildlife pond. Using a portable pump to refill the pond with water from the adjacent lake, they completed in half an hour what would have take a day of volunteer time!
Who has spotted the tens of thousands of whitefly that have emerged over the last few days? They made it look like it was snowing at times today. These true bugs can be pests of plants (particularly cabbages) and have benefited from the hot summer - the spiders seem happy though!
A beautiful sunny scene greeted us this morning! Most routes are now accessible although the usual spots are still impassable (Church Path and path to Corbett's Meadow)
Beavers are coming back to Nottinghamshire! After a 400-year absence in the county, Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust needs your help to bring beaver back to our sister site

There is lots of activity at the Sand Martin Nesting Bank this morning. This week we have seen the 1,000th chick raised in the bank since it first opened in 2014! A significant milestone and testoment...
Babies, babies everywhere! This week was the first day of spring in the astronomical calendar and the wildlife on the Reserve seems to know it! Check out some of the signs of spring we have spotted this week. More on

As the centre entrance is still flooded, Attenborough Nature Centre will be closed again this morning.
The car park is also partially flooded so we recommend staying at home for now but watch this space for when we announce it will be safely open again.
'egrets, we've had a few! Three to be exact. And not your average little egrets, these are the much rarer cattle egrets! More about them and the early sightings of starling murmurations from Tim on

Our longhorn ladies can be seen from the Tower Hide at Attenborough Nature Reserve today, carrying out their conservation grazing duties at Clifton Pond.
The team have been busy clearing brambles, scrub and overhanging branches from a popular section of the riverside path.
This means that visitors can now use the full width of the paths to aid social distancing.
