Article overlooks a key point about nuclear power & dependence on Russian natural gas. Correctly points out that new nuclear cannot respond in time to address a crisis Fails to notice that crisis could have been prevented by retaining existing nukes

Current Swedish law sharply limits SMR potential. Max of 10 reactors. Can only replace a shut down reactor. Only on existing sites An SMR would prevent a large reactor Only current operators New legislation is designed to remove those obstacles.

"I think modern nuclear power plants are safe contrary to what people may think," the Tesla and SpaceX CEO said. … “And I’m talking about fission,” Musk said. “You don’t need fusion.”

Japanese politicians who are fighting nuclear restarts correctly point out that evacuations can be difficult to impossible following a major earthquake. Their answer is to prevent restarts. A better answer is to revise response plans to remove requirements for forced

Refurbishing CANDU reactors comes close to complete rebuilds. Work forces and supply chains established for a series of refurbishments have been gaining skills and industrial capabilities that make them ready to build new CANDU reactors.

An often repeated ding against smaller manufactured reactors (SMR) is that none of them are currently operating outside of Russia and China. Individuals and groups that justify their opposition with that fact follow their claim with something like this: “Right now, if you’re

A source with intimate, first-hand knowledge of AP1000 construction issues provided a pithy explanation of the root cause of the infamous basemat concrete pour that added ~1 yr to construction duration. He has professional reasons for relative anonymity 1/3

Pressure must continue. It's ridiculous to view use growth in renewables as a way to eliminate clean nuclear energy instead of using them to replace dirty fossil fuels. Can't get to #NetZero using one step forward, two steps back #SaveCleanEnergy

Remember when wind and solar were very expensive? Cure was building over and over. Produced “learning” that steadily lowered costs. Why does anyone assume #nuclear can’t follow a similar trajectory with commitment and follow-through?

Industrializing open lands often harms or buries valuable soil 3. Installing roads, transmission lines and pipelines often has a permanently negative effect on the soil in disturbed pathways.

Chancellor Scholz, who presided over the closure of Germany's last operating nuclear plants, believes it would take 15 years or more to build new ones. Experts say 7 of the most recently closed reactors could be restarted in far less time.
