Fantastic outcome for our client who was charged as a result of their involvement in the Kenmure Street protest. Acquitted of all charges after an 8 day trial conducted by our Erin Monaghan, the Sheriff noting that NONE of the police officers were credible or reliable witnesses.

Brilliant words from a brilliant guy. Even north of the border despite the tribal nature of the game there is nothing but respect for who he is and what he has done. On and off the pitch.
We have spoken to 2 clients in custody today to advise them that, with regret, we shall not be representing their interests in the custody court tomorrow. We stand with the

We are immensely saddened to hear of the passing of one of Scotland’s finest legal minds and civil rights campaigners in Derek Ogg QC. We had the privilege of working with Derek on many occasions and the world, and our profession, is a poorer place for his passing. RIP.

The key to highlighting a lack of credibility and reliability in a witness is expert cross-examination. So this was no mere ‘own goal’ by the Crown witnesses.

We are devastated to hear of the loss of advocate Niall McCluskey, a superb lawyer with whom we had worked many times. A truly good man, generous with his time and eager to assist.A huge loss to the profession, but more so to his family and friends. Our thoughts are with you. RIP

By way of update on this - the Crown decided to take no action thus the undertaking - disgraceful condition and all - was cancelled. We are delighted for the client but would have been keen to see what the Court made of this unwarranted attack on a basic human right.

Creative lawyering in Glasgow this morning. Discussions re a RTA matter being dropped and the complainer agreed on the basis that the accused did ‘something to help animals’. Thus a donation is on its way to the SSPCA, case binned.
Client happy✅ Animals saved✅ Its what we do.😊
Hugely interesting initiative by a very worthy organisation. It shall no doubt be eye opening for the wider public to get an insight into life in custody during these hellish times.

Another delighted client acquitted today. A sadly familiar tale of a taxi driver subjected to disgusting abuse and violence while going about his job - and finds himself maliciously accused by his assailants after managing to fend them off. Glad to see justice prevail.
Great leadership being shown by the
@GlasgowBarAssoc
exec committee as robust action is taken against colleagues who have failed to stand with the overwhelming majority of our membership in defending legal aid. A sad day when such measures are required - but wholly merited. 👏🏻

On the 32nd anniversary of the Lockerbie atrocity, as the family and friends of 270 innocent people remember their loved ones, it is shameful of the American authorities to act in this way. Today should be a day of remembrance and not political grandstanding.

The charges are trivial. But that’s not the point. These are undertaking conditions imposed by the police before the client has been brought before a court. They allow protest in support of any cause they like - other than Palestine. Explain to us all how that is reasonable.
@virgilmcrawford
@PoliceScotland
We mean ‘immediate’ as in as soon as the Court will hear us on it. And an urgent hearing shall be sought. The alleged offence involved filming police officers but irrespective of the gravity of matters the prohibition against ‘pro-Palestinian’ protest is outrageous on any view.
