I went to the official opening of South Africa’s largest solar PV (540MW) and battery (225MW/1140MWh) plant today near Keinhardt in the N Cape. Seriously impressive, 9 km from one end to the other, nearly 1 million panels, R18 bn investment, built by Scatec in 15 months.

Here's @Eskom_SA 's estimate of how much rooftop solar PV has been added (cumulatively) in South Africa. It reduce the residual load that Eskom has to meet during the day, meaning less load shedding and more available energy to restore its pumped hydro and diesel storage.

My tiny contribution to ameliorate (and insulate myself) from loadshedding. Over the past 48hrs my small home system has fed 31kWh back to grid while only drawing 2.9kWh. The rest of my supply has come from my solar PV + batteries. Imagine if millions of us could do this.
