Life update: I'm putting these into full-time practice this summer ☀️
I've quit my job, and am taking some time off to just vibe, try to un-burn-out, and prioritize being a human 💆🏽♀️
What's next? 🤷🏽♀️ Ask me again in a few months, maybe 🙃
Making some mid-year's resolutions:

Friendly reminder to eliminate words/phrases like these from your talks, blog posts, docs, etc:
"simply"
"just"
"obviously"
"of course"
"it's easy"
They do nothing to enhance your point, and can only serve to make people feel stupid if the "obvious" thing isn't obvious to them.
Thrilled to announce that today was my first day as a developer/advocate at
@observablehq
! 🎉 Can't wait to get even more folks learning & teaching with these amazing notebooks ✨
Goodbye for now Lagos, I had a fantastic time at

It's been amazing meeting & learning with you all! Hope to see you all again soon!
I firmly believe it's *never* too late to start a new career, especially programming! I got my first coding job at 31 myself, and plenty of folks have made the switch later in life.
Any other >30 career switchers got stories/advice to share?
Just wrapped up recording a new course on
@FrontendMasters
, the hardest thing I've ever tried to teach: a total intro to JS! Hoping it will help even more folks build careers as web devs 🚀
So grateful to the team & participants for making it happen 🥲 Can't wait for launch!
So many feels today, my last day with
@Mapbox

Thanks for everything Team Mapbox, never stop exploring! 🚀
😍 If only I could give talks in all these languages.... For now this'll have to do!

Some jerk wrote this comment on one of my tech videos on my *employer's* YouTube channel 🤦🏽♀️ If you've ever wondered why women leave (or never enter) STEM, it's this kind of shit. We're so sick of dealing with your sexist, objectifying BS when we're just trying to do our mf jobs
PSA: If you're in public not wearing a mask, and you see someone who is, the absolute literal *least* you can do is NOT shame them, tell them to take it off, say it's "unnecessary", or otherwise give them shit.
Just keep your selfish mouth shut. Better yet, keep it covered 😷
So impressed with everyone's 💯 work in my

Today I made some code more readable by *duplicating* a simple function in 2 places 👯 Now you see exactly what's happening in each place it's used, instead of having to refer to a separate place where it was previously abstracted away.

In 2015 I applied to Outreachy
and got rejected.
6 months later I applied again, with a much stronger application since I had learned from the first time around
...and I got the internship that launched my tech career.
Rejection doesn't mean you don't belong! Try, learn, repeat
For applicants who weren't accepted this round, we encourage you to please apply again.
We encourage you to keep in touch with the communities you've joined during the application period.
Absolutely! IME having juniors review landing PRs is super valuable for all involved:
- Jr asks questions & learns
- Jr acquaints w/ codebase & its evolution
- Sr gets beginner's mind feedback via "but why?" Qs
- Sr practices communicating their work & its value
- Both climb🪜
When I grow up I want to be:
impactful but humble,
accomplished but approachable,
expert but curious,
and somehow capable of teaching, learning, and laughing in the same breath.
In other words, I want to be

It's been an amazing week meeting the tech community in Lagos! So many companies, organizations, & events booming 💥🇳🇬
According to this article

Morning wellness & self-care routines are so important right now! Here's mine: 😊

I stepped away from Twitter for a month+ for a mental health break, just now catching up on all the awesomeness & love I've been missing and I feel so overwhelmed! 🥰🥲 Y'all are the best!! So lucky to be part of this amazing community 🤗💖
If you think you can't give talks bc you get stage fright, or that people who do it often don't have that, well I have good news and bad news 🙃
I've been a quasi-professional public speaker for what, 6ish years now?
I still get nervous before every talk.
Every effing time 😰
There's so much horror in this world, we have to go out of our way to celebrate the joyful parts - so in celebration of
