@AMythicWitch "Nintendo" emailed me. They wanted me to sign a legal document to attend an event. I immediately knew it was a scam and Googled the email address. But it actually wasn't a scam. Nintendo personally invited me to play Mario in front of the creator of Mario: Shigeru Miyamoto.

In Super Mario Maker 2, if a Builder character hits a block a certain distance above a Twister with a hammer, the character will be trapped in a state of stumbling backwards. Player input has no effect and the character will only stop when walking into a wall or off a ledge.

@AMythicWitch It wasn't the ideal setup to play Super Mario Bros for a number of reasons, but it was still such an insane experience to meet Miyamoto (and Reggie!) despite the issues. I'll never forget halfway through the run when Miyamoto turned toward me, smiles, and said "break a leg!"

My best speedruns were done before speedrunning was pretty popular, and people like to tell me that. I hear: "Of course you had WRs because the strats were easier you had no competition." What they don't realize is that I had a really tough competitor all these years: myself.

@5quiddo @tehmarom4n As someone who has more speedrun experience than almost anyone let me tell you it's just way too linear like that and allows for hardly any creativity. Also, it's arbitrary to ban certain things. 100% categories let you play every stage and isn't necessarily too glitchy.

I was never sure whether I was imagining things or making timing mistakes, but this confirms what I always thought. My initial 5:00.71 is actually 5:00.35. And my 5:00.4x is also 5:00.35. Why? 5:00.71 was recorded with a VCR. It adds ~0.3 seconds per 5 minutes. 5:00.4 was DVD

So me and @SimplisticMemes went through old World Records for SMB1 and we found that a few runs by Andrewg1990 were not retimed properly. Using current retiming methods we discovered that both 5 flats performed by Andrew in 2007 & 2010 appear to be the same time down to be frame.

So my ultimate goal with Super Mario Bros was to some day hit all the frame rules. There were times when I hit all "humanly possible" frame rules at the time (though it's a much different game now), but it seemed probable that more would be found. Now, @Niftski literally did.
