Looking forward to seeing the back of the Tories in 2024 and a new beginning for the U.K.. My hobby is writing and recording pop songs, and I’m a Eurovision fan
Today is my 60th birthday and ends three days of celebrations which have been the happiest three days of my life. I just wanted to share that with my Twitter friends before I fall asleep, exhausted but happy.
New Covent Garden market this morning. Countless supplies have been held up. No geraniums to be had. Traders furious at the new border checks. Trucks being stopped at random. Staff don’t understand enough to carry out the checks properly. Can’t categorise the products …. /2
@nats_tired
Good luck with that. But if the policy leads to less landlords like you then it can only be a good thing. I am a landlord and I think your attitude stinks. Your tenants are not just your customers but are people too. Have a little respect for them.
@lukerobertblack
Don’t be ridiculous. Rory Stewart is a Tory and none of the rest of them is left wing. You can watch Laura and cry into your beer as she interview frog face Farage laughing his tits off at how many seats he caused to fall to Labour.
@CeliaBedelia
Last time I flew I queued behind a woman with a very young baby. I said to her not to worry if the baby cried, it is entirely natural and people will tune out after a while.
@IanLaveryMP
In Finland all children get free school meals. That is how it should be. We don’t charge for their education so why so we need to charge for their lunch? Every child has to eat.
@JMPSimor
It is one thing to quote Private Eye, and another thing to screenshot the article. Private Eye needs people to buy its publication not to read it online for free. I hope everyone who read this article will go onto and buy it. We need to protect the liberal press.
@Nicolsonraea
True story: arrived in Scotland Xmas Eve, needed present for sister in law. Went to electricity showroom as was only sho still open. Approached counter and woman barked: if you have come in here drunk at the last minute thinking you can buy your wife an iron you can piss off!
@mikemoves12
You don’t like homeless people any more than you like asylum seekers, but it is a splendid idea to house the homeless in hotels, especially when they are less busy during the coldest months. Why don’t you petition your MP about it?
2/ Customs couldn’t decide if lemon and lime trees counted as plants or fruit. So that the consignment could be released the fruit was picked from the trees and thrown away, so the trees could be classed as plants. You couldn’t make it up…
@benhabib6
As a Pakistani economic immigrant to this country and a person of colour who has benefitted from the best private education that money can buy, could you please explain why western civilisation faces an existential threat, and from whom.
@BritishGas
@BorisJohnson
@RishiSunak
So you sacked skilled staff for refusing to take a pay cut and now you are employing apprentices on low wages to try to plug the gap. Fire and rehire is an evil business practice. No doubt one that is applauded by the PM and chancellor.
@LeeAndersonMP_
Have you gone full Fascist now, Lee? Because if you are suggesting that certain people deserve not to be represented by lawyers then that’s what you are advocating. More likely this is just you playing at the culture war you said was the Tories only hope of winning the election
@tig_james
Replies saying that of course these two massive companies will have worked together miss the point. Sunak and his wife’s business interests are so widespread that he should not be allowed to be in a position of public influence. Being PM is incompatible with business interests.
@RMCunliffe
The elephant that is always in the room is Brexit, which massively increased the costs of staffing and supplying restaurants and pubs, and the number of people coming to London from the U.K. for work experience in the hospitality industry has fallen. This all has an effect.
@GullisJonathan
I am soooo relieved that you are fighting the election, Jonathan, as I was worried you might stand down, thereby robbing us of the moment you are beaten. I can’t wait to see your Susan Hall face.
@KilclooneyJohn
Looking at it from the point of view of a foreigner I would suspect that to call the Irish tricolour the IRA flag is as insulting to your Irish compatriots as it would be to call the Union flag the Butcher’s Apron. It is time to move on and live in peace, harmony and prosperity.
@sophielouisecc
What does it have to do with you? You are a migrant (a temporary one at that) with no right to vote, so you don’t really have any right to interfere in Australian politics at all, do you?
@krishgm
I am delighted to hear that I am even more of a political animal than I thought I was. I didn’t understand, until McVey explained, that being gay is a political statement.
@ShaunBaileyUK
How about apologising for allowing your staff to have a party, at which you ALL broke the law, and apologise for not reporting the breach of the law to the police? A £10k fine means that it is a very serious offence. Neither you nor they should get away with breaking the law.
@NadineDorries
I bet you weren’t invited, but I wish you had have been. You could have addressed the audience from the stage, in your capacity as Vulture Secretary. I’m sure you would have received an unforgettable reception.
@David_Cameron
You wouldn’t have to do that if, whilst in power, you hadn’t allowed food banks to take the place of state support for the needy. You had the chance to make a real difference, why didn’t you? Especially since you evidently do seem to care.
@StevenEdginton
Free? In 1982 I almost got arrested for walking through a park with my boyfriend. I was 21. He was 18. We were outlaws. We, and especially I, as the older of the two, risked imprisonment. The rest of the country thought that was all quite an acceptable curtailment of freedom.
@RichardJMurphy
@LPWLeeds
They are not incompetent. They are not corrupt. They are not Tories. Even if that is the best you can say about them (and I don’t believe that it is) it makes them already infinitely better equipped than the Tories to run the country.
@DPJHodges
It also needs to be said that if the government didn’t keep breaking the law there would be no need for Joylon Maugham to take legal action against the government and ministers would have no need to try to come up with ‘this nonsense’.
@LeeAndersonMP_
That is only a crowd to a Reform or Tory person and what on earth were you doing offering them fried food on a polystyrene tray? We’re you trying to offend them or poison them?
@NixJPayne
Voted to leave the EU but now wants to move there because they have a PM who is far right wing and harsher on foreigners even than ours is. She forgets that she would be a foreigner herself…
@pritipatel
Should I be cheering them or booing them? Should I hope that 8 of them had never been allowed to live here because they or their ancestors came from abroad. Like you.
@JuliaHB1
If people are so sure that they were born with a body not aligned to their mind/soul to such an extent that they go through all the trauma of realigning their body then I choose to believe them when they say whether they are a woman or a man. And in any case we are all people.
@Baskerville448
The man is at a gay pride parade, in case there is any trouble. Gay people never cause trouble and at that time there were only also no straight trouble causers around. So he went about building bridges with the gay community after years of the police kicking shît out of us. OK?
@tomhfh
She destroyed the housing market, destroyed steel and mining towns, sold off as many assets as she could to lower taxes and wasted the revenues from the North Sea. Her legacy lives on today and it is entirely malign. And you destroyed her one great achievement - the single market
@LeeAndersonMP_
I love the way you are always so generous with your money and never fail to tell us this. And it must be hard getting by on 80 odd grand as an MP and - what is it - £100,000 for a few hours at GBNews? Your generosity knows no bounds.
@AndyGJBurge
@colinnwalker
@LiamFox
@PeterBoneUK
Is this the Liam Fox who set a precedent for saving money by sharing a hotel room with a young advisor whilst on government business? Hmmmmm. I wonder why he would be leaping to the defence of a Tory MP who made his young aide share a hotel room with him on government business.
@Suewilson91
Yes. They provided shelter for all homeless people during the first lockdown. Sadly, in order not to give the impression that they are soft, they chucked them all back on to the street a few months later. But it was, for a while, a very good policy.
@sophielouisecc
No, dear, nobody can tell you because you don’t want to know. It has been explained to you a thousand times but you won’t accept the truth.
@siobhanfreya
@jacquep
There were rumours that Wilf is Goldsmith’s child. Anyway, if she has left Johnson I think we can be fairly sure that she isn’t the one that Gove left his wife and children for.
@LeeAndersonMP_
Hello I’m your Labour cand…. Oh fuck no, I mean I am your Tory candidate. Did I say Tory? I meant Reform. Lovely to meet you. Pretend we’ve never met before. I’ll leave a BNP leaflet as well in case that saves me having to come back in a few months time :-)
@SteveSammut2
How can people jump straight from wanting a socialist government to preferring a Tory one to any other alternative? Isn’t that taking spite to an extreme level?
@krishgm
The chairman and the entire board need to be sacked immediately and replaced with people with no political affiliations, or, as close to that as is practical, but certainly not biased either to left or right.
@AngelaRayner
Then you should say that you will renationalise the NHS on election with no compensation for any private investors from today’s date onwards.
@paulturner67
Congratulate them on having improved their financial position and tell them to use the money to buy a dog in Australia, because you are the dogs guardian and it is staying with its family in the U.K.
@PaulEmbery
It would have been braver for the Muslim player to wear a rainbow symbol if he thought there would be a backlash for doing so. There is nothing brave about refusing to show compassion towards LGBTI people because of your religious belief.
@DavidGHFrost
You voted remain, jumped on the Brexit bandwagon, failed to negotiate a trade agreement with America, got a dreadful deal for the U.K. which you then disowned. You are an arch hypocrite.
@IainDale
@trussliz
I always get mixed up - is this the moderate right of centre gay man or the further right shock jock? I’m assuming it’s the latter, given the dawning review.
@MCH1951
@Tesco
Oh yes of course because on the third day Jesus popped out of an egg and was witnessed by two chocolate bunnies and a Terry’s chocolate orange. Amen.
@richardintheuk
@MrHarryCole
What is the difference between an activist lawyer and a lawyer? Isn’t it the job of lawyer to represent their client and make sure that they are fairly treated according to the relevant laws?
@david_stillwell
High earners benefit from the fruit of cheap labour when they get their house cleaned, supermarkets stocked, medical attention, roads swept. All valuable jobs that don’t pay as well as others, for no particularly good reason. Tax evens this out - a bit.
@_HenryBolton
So what? Even if everyone in the country broke the law it still wouldn’t exonerate the PM and Number 10 from breaking the laws that they themselves imposed on us - and them.
@ABridgen
Yes, what’s fishy is that your mate Boris didn’t let the EU know about this super infectious new strain until Friday when the whole world knew. So they have taken the precaution of quarantining the U.K. until they can bring themselves up to speed. All our fault.
@bbcquestiontime
Here’s a question for the panel. Was tonight’s audience representative of Stratford-upon-Avon and if so, has there been an unusual amount of inbreeding in the area? Or did you just rig the audience with Tory voters as Fiona Bruce alluded to?
@Diving_Dxb
@dave43law
@TonyParsonsUK
It stops being relative at the point where the person has more money than they need, and start to accumulate wealth that they will never, themselves, use. Those people are, in my book, rich.
@BritishAlba
@DavidGHFrost
@trussliz
@AmbColonna
You do realise that we are utterly dependant upon France, given our reliance upon Calais and the tunnel, not to mention the power that they supply us? A trade war will end very quickly with humiliation that would make Suez look like a walk in the park.
@tomhfh
Goodness his face looks very red. Is that because he is broadcasting from his freedom of movement home in France or because he has gone full on gammon?
#GBeebies
#GammonBroadcastingNews
@Bren4Bassetlaw
It delivered the worst three years of government of our entire lives. The northerners who enabled this should be ashamed of themselves. The MPs who carried it out should be behind bars.
@WestminsterWAG
I’m glad you think you can say awful things about others and then absolve yourself simply by saying sorry. It’s the equivalent of water companies dumping shit in the sea and paying a fine.
@EdONeil15
@SandraDunn1955
@PoliticsJOE_UK
@TheLastLeg
I know you mean well by this comment but The Last Leg, as brilliant as it is, shouldn’t become a ghetto for people with disabilities. He should be on HIGNFY, Question Time, Channel 4 News.
@nicktolhurst
Andrew Neil tweeted that he had never ‘frequented’ Epstein’s properties and when I asked him to clarify it that meant he had never visited or that he had, but not frequently, he blocked me. Draw your own conclusions or better still - why not follow that up.
@SarBritcliffeMP
@AngelaRayner
I’ve never heard of this MP so had a quick look at the profile and lo and behold - too embarrassed to say which party she represents. I’m going to guess it is the same party as William Wragg.
@implausibleblog
She is a guest in another country, a sovereign one at that, and she has absolutely no say in how they conduct their affairs so if she doesn’t like it she should go back where she came from. Which, unfortunately, is Essex.
@SuellaBraverman
You have the right to say what you did, though I wholeheartedly disagree with you, but to include a photograph of someone in this way is beyond contempt and, given the people who agree with your sentiments, could be classed as incitement to violence. You should be deeply ashamed.
@davesumnersmith
@ShabanaMahmood
@RishiSunak
All the government did was fight over Brexit then fight over the spoils of covid then fight over control of their own party. They did absolutely nothing beneficial for the country, other than by accident.
@BorisJohnson
@Lionesses
And you, Boris, could have been there to receive the boo-es of 80 odd thousand people. Strange you didn’t make it, just like you didn’t make it to the Commonwealth Games.
@JolyonMaugham
Men go to gay nightclubs on their own all the time. And there are no age restrictions. My partner once arrived at Heaven from work in his suit, but he had the good sense to change into civvies in the queue outside.
@tomhfh
If you pretend that Johnson didn’t know what he was doing when he conflated Brexit with Ukrainian, or Starmer with Saville, then you are taking your readers for fools. Johnson knew exactly what he was doing. There was no good reason to do it. It didn’t need saying. He is amoral.
@Picss3o
I wish there were more people like you around. I’m only 7 years behind you and I can’t believe how many of my generation have turned out just like their parents in their political and societal views.
@maggierankin201
@AdamWagner1
It isn’t either / or. You are using the awful fact that a woman is missing to make a political point, which is, at best, tasteless and misguided.
Remainers 2016: we are warning you of the consequences of leaving the EU; Leavers, 2016: Project Fear. Remainers 2021: this is what we warned you about; Leavers 2021: it’s your fault for wishing it on the country.
@mikegalsworthy
@IsabelOakeshott
@ukhomeoffice
That’s not the point. If we set up a scheme to let refugees take refuge in this country where might it end? Brown and black people might take advantage of it and then where would we be? We were full just after Patel’s parents arrived, I understand.
@benhabib6
@JamieBrysonCPNI
@trussliz
Another failed Brexiteer turning on a sixpence in the hope of fooling those who believed the Brexit lies over the past seven or more years. its falling apart in front of our very eyes. And Liz Truss is a Remainer, don’t forget.
@PaulEmbery
Lost £40 million last year. Hardly anyone watches it. How many presenters have been sacked? How many have behaved inappropriately? How many Tory MPs are soiling themselves by moonlighting as shock jocks?
@mercer_felicity
@atomiclabrats
You work for your husband at a cost of £45,000 to the taxpayer. Shouldn’t you be in the office dealing with the backlog instead of excusing other people for falling behind?
@LadyDetectives1
Firstly, they were not conscripts. They chose the services as a career. Secondly, nobody, whatever their previous walk of life, deserves to have to live on the street. Thirdly, it is a political choice of the Government to allow this situation to exist.
@Councillorsuzie
You lied and lied again about Sadiq Khan bringing in pay per mile on day one. Well, he hasn’t but you did give him a mandate to do that since he was voted in with an increased majority off the back of your claims.
