The suffering of Palestinians in Gaza is real. Why not call on Hamas to release all hostages and agree to have its leaders leave Gaza. They could save Palestinians from paying a further price. Real support for Palestinians should produce such a call. Isn’t it time for that?

The world is upside down when there are those who criticize the Israelis for rescuing their kidnapped hostages. Hamas fires on them, trying to kill those being rescued and their rescuers. The IDF fires on Hamas and civilians get killed. Why is it so hard for some to blame Hamas?

One of the troubling realities these days is the historical ignorance about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Hamas is portrayed as part of the oppressed when it oppresses Gazans, persecutes gays, and uses its tunnels to protect its rockets and its public as human shields.

I went to Erez and saw the 2.5 mile Hamas tunnel near the crossing; Hezbollah would be envious. The amounts of cement, steel, metal, wiring, pipes, wood, boggle the mind. All this could have been used above ground to build impoverished Gaza. But Hamas cares little for its public.

Hamas has rejected another hostage deal ceasefire proposal. Every chance it has to relieve the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza, it rejects. Why is there no focus on its blocking any humanitarian pause? Why no pressure on it to end the suffering of Gazans? Past time to do so.

Blocking funding for Iron Dome may well harm Israelis and Palestinians alike. If Israel cannot protect its citizens from Hamas rockets, it will have to go into Gaza on the ground to prevent them from being fired. In that case, Palestinian and Israeli losses will be much higher.

Yes, Israelis have moved to the right politically and doubt peace. They have withdrawn unilaterally twice, from Lebanon and from Gaza. What did they get? Not land for peace or security but rockets and tunnels. In Gaza, time for reconstruction in return for de-militarization.

Because of splits in Hamas, a deal that could provide at least 35 days of a pause, maybe 60 days, and maybe even an end to the war is being blocked. At a minimum, the terrible suffering of Palestinians could be dramatically eased. But that has never been a Hamas interest.

Iran is threatening to deny the IAEA access if its Board Of Governors censures it for failing to provide a credible answer why uranium particles were found at 3 sites where there should be no radioactivity. Paraphrasing Iran: you catch us cheating, call us on it, how dare you.

Israel’s proposal would effectively stop the war. The 3-stage process would produce a real cessation of hostilities. President Biden embraced it because he sees the Israelis showing real flexibility. As always, given a choice Hamas once again favors the suffering of Palestinians.

At the Warsaw Conference, I conducted back to back discussions first with three Arab ministers and then with Israeli PM Netanyahu. Same room, same views of Iran’s aggressive, threatening posture in the Middle East, and unmistakable convergence of what should be done to counter it

I understand the dilemma that the President faced. He inherited a withdrawal, not a peace agreement, and there was a price of staying measured in American blood. I get that. I don’t get the lack of worse case planning on implementation. The task was not only withdrawing US forces

Saif al Adel is the new Al Qaedq leader. Where is he ? In Iran. What has he been known for—trying to acquire nuclear or biological weapons. Iran should know the consequences if he acquires and uses any—they should know they will be held responsible. Reckless to be hosting him.

We now know Israel is fighting the equivalent of ISIS. Sec Austin says what he has seen is worst than ISIS. I hope Israel can create some safe areas for Gazans. I know when the US bombed Raqqa and Mosul to defeat ISIS, we destroyed the cities as we sought to destroy ISIS.

Jake Sullivan asks good question about Israeli plans for stabilizing Gaza. If Gaza city/Shifa hospital cleared months ago, how is it is Hamas is back in the City/hospital? Fair question. Another fair one: why does media ignore Hamas/PIJ use Shifa again. PIJ leader seized in it.

Rafael Grossi, IAEA head, says we are close to not having “continuity of knowledge” on Iran’s nuclear program. Iran continues to show no fear, convinced it can raise the pressure on us and the rest of the 5+1, gain further concessions, and pay no price. We have lost our deterrent

Osama Hamdan, a Hamas official, declared in Lebanon that Hamas rejects the hostage proposal President Biden called on them to accept. Hamdan’s rejection echoed the words of the acting Iranian foreign minister. Qatar needs to play hard ball with Hamas now: no more money period.
