2009. I was writing raps in a rap book that had MI Abaga’s lyrics on the cover. You need to understand how much this means to me, that 11-12 years later, I’m featured on his project.
I’m honoured man.

Me: raps about fuel price getting to 1k per litre as hyperbole, because I honestly didn’t think it’ll get that bad.
Nigeria: Hold my premium motor spirit

Indie/label, to each his own.
The point about having a team is valid.
There’s nuance. Everyone’s path isn’t the same. For some of us, it’s about leverage.
Me being able to produce, mix & master my music has nothing to do with bragging or greed & a lot more to do with necessity.
Oxlade recorded everything he did on “SeeHeaven” in 15 minutes flat. I’d only played him the beat once prior, never sent it to him cos he said it wasn’t necessary. He came to my house, dropped the ting and started ordering cab 15 mins later. Shot my shot with Ghost on Twitter.
At a time when many young (and even older) Afrobeats artists rely on onomatopoeia & vocal senrenre (some of which we engineers still spend hours pitch correcting 😪), with little lyrical substance, it’s so refreshing to hear a well-written song in Taves’ “Eleyele”.
Unashamed fan.
One thing I’ll never forget (and probably won’t stop tweeting at least once every 2 years till I’m 70) is that Royce da 5’9” posted my Boblo Boat verse to his IG & used one of my lines as the caption 🥹
I felt like the best rapper in the world that week. The real ones understand
I know how much his success has directly and indirectly brought new fans and clients my way. He’ll always bring his friends up in conversation. All facts
Whenever Oxlade comes around ... He will persuade me to listen and check out his friend’s music, dance videos & whatever they working on. Get you a friend like that !
Na we be the real INDEPENDENT artists.
Never had one sponsor.
Just REAL PEOPLE showing me real love.
Thank you, really.
I’m doing 800k for one song on Spotify alone. When I no dey label, and when I no be Afrobeats artist.
Come on dawg! Thank you Jiniegang!!❤️❤️
Carry the microphone in your hand oh, you hear? Don’t use a pop filter. Let all your “P”s and “B”s sound like AK-47 sound samples being played over China phone speakers. Then come and tell me “you see as Burna vocals dey for “Anybody”? Make my vocals dey like that”
Ya mad.
I spent some time one afternoon in 2019 watching a couple of song breakdowns by Jon Bellion on YouTube. I felt so inspired afterwards & jumped out of bed.
Over the next 2 hours, I ended up creating my 2019 song “PDA” which ended up featuring M.I. Abaga.

2014.
Needed to secure the MI/Chopstix collab I was promised for winning M’s “Best Rapper in the East” contest.
Jason Abaga made sure I got that beat.
Took me to Choppa’s house!
Jason urgently needs a new kidney.

Small gist for you. Ox had already done that magic since, on the beat I sent him. I played the hook for Blaq in a random session, and he didn’t rest till the song ended up on his album lol.
That skill you’re learning? That’s frustrating you? That you think you’re not good at yet? That you can’t get paid for yet?
KEEP AT IT.
The reason I’m sane enough to still rap in Nigeria is because I’m gainfully employed as a top mix engineer. But I made 0 naira from it till 2018
