Really choked to hear today that Mark George KC has died. Mark was one of the barristers who did such a superb job on behalf of many of the Hillsborough families at the inquests in Warrington b/w 2014-16, and by extension, a great job for survivors too 1/

#Hillsborough Thoughts tonight are with all the families, their lost loved ones, and the survivors - especially all my great friends who've been through so much and are still standing tall. See you on Monday/the other side

Two years ago next week the British public decided to elect Boris Johnson despite abundant evidence that he was a racist, a homophobe, a self-serving idiot and habitual liar. Working out well, isn't it?

22/ Merseyside Police are spot on in describing behaviour of overwhelming majority of LFC fans as exemplary. Fact is, it was only the responsible behaviour of our fans in the face of vindictive and reckless policing that prevented a dire situation becoming deadly

#Hillsborough A reminder that English law allows the man who bears primary responsibility for the Hillsborough disaster to admit his liability to an inquest, then deny that responsibility and blame others when he's prosecuted

The audio of David Duckenfield admitting in 2015 at the inquests that his failure to close the tunnel caused the deaths of 96 people, and apologising. Then at his trial his QC said he now admitted no failures, and blamed supporters (the victims) and other police officers.

35 years on from 15 April 1989 a government will today enact a Hillsborough law requiring a duty of candour from public officials at public inquiries. Incredible that no such law has existed until now, and in 1989 South Yorkshire Police could mislead Taylor inquiry with impunity

Cressida Dick: not sacked over Sarah Everard. Today: Prince Andrew will not be charged by the Met. Throw in promotions for judges collapsing Hillsborough trials on dodgy grounds and here's your country

Darmanin's lies about the Stade de France shambles reveal that the approach of French police to the game was to treat LFC fans as 'problem fans'. That's it. That's all they had. And when we weren't a problem, they couldn't adapt their tactics. It's what SYP did at Hillsborough

@campbellclaret Bernard Ingham accompanied Thatcher around Hillsborough the day after South Yorkshire Police killed nearly 100 people. Then he blamed the disaster on Liverpool fans, treating the bereaved, survivors and the truth with a contempt he maintained until today. A weapons-grade wanker

The moment Howard Webb was brought in to oversee PL refs, the game was taking a huge risk with its credibility. He's unfit for purpose, and bringing the game into constant disrepute

Hillsborough ... 27 years ago today coroner Stefan Popper was seen cracking open a case of champagne with police officers after the corrupt inquest they oversaw returned a verdict of accidental death. A scene witnessed by a bereaved dad - the police slammed the door in his face

#OTD 1991. Shock as the Hillsborough inquest returns a verdict of accidental death. The 90-day inquest was the longest running in British history at the time. It would take another 25 years for a court to rule that the victims had been unlawfully killed.
