The irony of it all:"Cultural Critique provides a forum for creative and provocative scholarship in theoretical humanities & humanistic social sciences. Transnational in scope...the journal strives to spark...intellectual debates as well as...foster critical investigations..."
to be clear - if you want to boycott Israel's government, companies that produce weapons of war & technologies of oppression, settler violence, etc., that's cool.
But science & scholarship, and indeed the culture of a nation, society, and people--ought not be stamped out

Jim, It did not. Go back somewhere in the replies there's all sorts of academic scholarship link to in the South African case, I agree that people think that this boycott worked but it did not.
@basilahmed2023
@CulturalCritiq1
They did no such thing. They protested, loudly, in the streets, demanding the removal of Netanyahu and his right-wing maniacs. They went back to their classrooms and continued to teach & mentor Arab and Palestinian students alongside Israeli Jews and foreigners.
@Jadam2122
@CulturalCritiq1
No if you actually read the scholarship that was written in the decades that followed, the academic part of the boycott movements, did nothing more than symbolic work, and actually left post apartheid SA worse off. It's there in the data

Can one truly be an abolitionist & anti-imperialist while pursuing a PhD at an American university & publishing a book for profit? Participating in and rewarding institutions built on exploitation and stolen land raises tough questions.
Out now!
Drawing on Marx's theory of history, I argue that the competition & capital accumulation inherent in Bitcoin mining are at odds w/narrative discourses that position BTC as a revolutionary technology capable of subverting traditional structures
@EconTalker
It comes from Odin's Day. Thursday is Thor's Day. Friday is For Frejya. Tuesday for Tyr. These names were translated into Old English as 'Wōdnesdæg' and 'Þūnresdæg' (Thursday) eventually evolving into the names we use today.
@timgill924
Devise it as 3 blinded peer reviewers ... Like that TV dating game show.. anyway you get to reject or accept.. or R&R.. which states you'd agree to a date but only if they change something about themselves.
@IzaTabaro
Many individual Israeli academics have already been cancelled in one way or another: uninvited from talks, conferences, etc; refusal to review Israeli scholarship or tenure packet; refusal to collaborate or co-author; denied grants or scholarships; pilloried on public lists

You should take the time to read the research on the SA context. The academic boycott had no important political effect in undermining apartheid, but had a negative impact on postapartheid society

use gendered strategies & audiences show unconscious same-gender bias. Implications 4 financial literacy & inclusivity

This is just nonsensical. Nobody said the guilder was so crazy, not the pound sterling, nor the dollar. Reserve currency is based on stability not crazy.
I spoke with Israeli intelligence officers about the AI-based target machine they used which marked 37,000 Gazans as suspects for assassination. These whistleblowers expose numerous machines & policies that killed thousands of civilians since October.
Nazis in Germany 1939? No, Madison Wisconsin 2023.
In one of the videos, the men are heard shouting “there will be blood”.
Those participating included members of the white supremacist group 'Blood Tribe' led by Nazi Christopher Alan Pohlhaus.
@CassSunstein
I love this quote! .. but when I had the pleasure of meeting Danny 1-on-1 once, he cautioned me not to bother trying to change the minds of economists! 😩 😁 (I'm an economic sociologist)
5000+ academics so far have signed this letter opposing an academic boycott of Israeli scholars
Why? collectively punishing researchers for the acts of a government most of them don't even support undermines not only academic freedom & exchange of ideas but israel's liberal left
Over 3,300 names under this statement, mine included. If you are a scholar of humanities & social sciences & haven’t yet done it, please add yours as well.
