A little Sunday afternoon story. Two weeks ago I had quite major surgery. Today I got on a bus for the first time since then. With my blue badge. It was very full and I found myself standing initially near the priority seats holding on firmly to the hand rails.

Sondheim wrote back. He mentored people. He went to other shows. He loved theatre more then he loved himself. He was a genius who acted like a normal human. He passed his gifts back down the ladder. I think of his lyrics and his music every day and always will. Thank you, Steve.

I keep coming back to the way Sondheim uses the word 'moment'. It is scattered throughout his shows and lyrics. An acknowledgement that we are all ephemeral. A plea to hold onto the present. An expression of the shimmering, unique fragments of time that make up our lives.

Well @intheheights is the best directed movie musical I have ever seen. @jonmchu is an absolute genius. The rhythm, the pace, the layering, the way it stacked time. Holy wow. Go and see it in a cinema as soon as you can.

So I actually think the main issue with the DEH film is the lighting. It is too naturalistic and cinematic. It proves how essential the dramaturgy of lighting is to musical theatre.
