My fingers tremble as I type this..as of today COVID has become a personal tragedy..I have lost both my parents in a matter of 15 days in India. My precious, beautiful mummy and papa who made me who I am, have left me forever. Life will never be the same 💔
For those who think COVID 19 is a hoax or "just the flu", it killed both my parents within 15 days of each other, before they could get vaccinated. Yes read that again. I feel angry both as a daughter and a doctor.
My 7 yo explained what I do to a babysitter, here are her words:
"My mom is a pathologist, a special type of doctor who uses a microscope to look at people's tissues and tell them what's wrong. The tissue means parts of the body not the one that you wipe your nose with."🤣🤣
Last year at this time,I was so worried with problems in my visa leading to a long delay in starting my fellowship.I thought that was the worst time of my life.
This year I have lost both of my parents 15 days apart.
My whole perspective of the words "worst"&"life" have changed.
People say I am "normal" again. First, grief is not a disease.
Also, the truth is there is no "normal" after experiencing profound grief. You just keep on moving forward with life because you have to.
In my residency, we had an attending who would invite all the residents and fellows (most of us were IMGs) to her home on Thanksgiving, who were otherwise going to be lonely and homesick. These are the unforgettable acts of kindness. Dr. Aysola, I remembered you today..♥️
Life is so short and unpredictable. Shocked and deeply saddened by the passing away of a bright pathologist and a kind and cheerful person. We could never meet in person but it feels like a personal loss.
@PathologySayah

The Pathology Department would like to welcome new faculty member, Aysha Mubeen, MD, to Surgical Pathology. We are so fortunate and excited to be inheriting Dr. Mubeen’s expertise and experiences. Welcome to the Department of Pathology, Dr. Mubeen!
As I approach my 1 yr"grief anniversary",the pain is still there..just changed in its quality. It lets me be a functional doctor&human most days, but the part of me that died is never going to come alive again.
The world sees u as whole when u are broken in to a million pieces 💔

I still remember all those residency and fellowship interviews that I had to cancel because I ran out of money. Virtual interviews should always stay as an option! Travelling for interviews is such a financial strain for residency applicants and residents.

Pathology motivational quote:
Some people in your life will try to be a positive control and some negative control. Important is to keep track of your internal control. You do you! You don't need validation from anyone!😊
Great to meet Dr. Vikram Deshpande, my first mentor in US (when I came 7 years ago). He not only taught me pathology but quite a few professional life lessons🙂

Particularly impressed by finished and unfinished cases😅
Pause and appreciate the good things/people in your life, your loved ones, health, job etc.
It is a privilege to have all these, nothing is guaranteed...

Thank you residents for this thoughtful gift!
Decided to do some walking today. Was so happy to walk 2-3 miles. Came back to my apartment and the elevator was not working. 😅
I live on the 8th floor. I guess that is all the exercise for this week!🤦♀️
A special flower arrangement🌸
The vase was handmade and gifted to me by a dear attending when I was in fellowship.
The flowers are from a friend to celebrate my first day of being an attending!
Simplicity and pure joy!
