As I'd mentioned yesterday, this is my assessment on Xavi's last season and the common deficiencies we faced and its causes. Not only that, also had a little talk about how messed up our sporting operations are Would appreciate support / feedback.

Preparing in case he passes to the overlapping FB & trying to block off a delivery into the box? Are you blind? Can you not see that Carvajal is running in behind? Now if Carvajal got a delivery in uncontested that led to a goal — that would also be VVD’s fault, right?

Casemiro’s situation at United shows the excellence of Florentino Perez in the football market/business. He’s a stupendous strategist. He sold a 30 y/o ‘declining’ Casemiro for 70-80M and had Tchouameni to cover for instead — building a midfield framework for the future. Class.

If Barça sells Julian Araujo, this club is truly finished (exaggeration). He’s an exemplary ‘wide dueller’ — the way he bodied Nico Williams in those 1v1s last night is a testament to this. He’s secure, defensively apt, got exceptional recovery pace & is good in the 1st phase.

@FodenArmy @umirf1 That's not true. Messi offers much more than Cristiano, significantly. He's a difference maker but he's crucial as he contributes to the build-up and has massive press resistance. He's good at tight spaces, as expected, too. Ronaldo's a scorer but, his contribution is minimal.

People are blaming Frenkie De Jong for not releasing the damn ball when there are absolutely no goddamn runners / outlets in the team he can release to; stop judging actions without context of why and its nuances (what could he have done). Pointless agendas, literally.

Julian Nagelsmann continues to showcase his tactical brilliance — I’ve to admit; an incredible coach — Barcelona need to pull out all guns to hire him. He’s the sole reason I’m rooting for Germany to win the EUROS. He’s great at maximizing profiles while using his system.

• Gavi in Barcelona’s system 2022/23 Barcelona played 2 systems throughout the season — 4-3-3, and the 3-2-2-3 system with the box midfield. the role of Gavi in both systems was quite similar.

I think Ronald Araùjo should stay under Flick; with a very high-line & often the need for dueling & sweeping capacities due to concession of transitions — Araùjo is a very valuable profile to ensuring Barcelona’s defense is more secure than it it without him. He’s good, guys.

@RyanEntwistle @FrankKhalidUK I disagree on that part. Most people who rate him don't rate him due to the results or achievements his team produces but, what he *himself* produces on the pitch. Those jaw-dropping passes, mind-blowing dribbles through 4-5 players every single game and he's intelligent.

If Barcelona make adequate sales & have funds to spend—Rafael Leão is number 1 priority. I don’t think people understand how good he is, as a footballer. He straight up dominates the touchline, outside the box central zones & the box when he’s there. Unbelievable footballer.

• IN POSSESSION Contrary to popular perception, he’s a top player in possession. I’ll be talking about some standout quality traits he possesses such as : — body orientation and manipulation during reception — ball carrying and dribbling — link-up and spatial awareness

I’d say he did both these roles very well for the season and added a lot of dynamism to our midfield throughout the season. There’s no doubting he has his flaws, but every player has their flaws, him getting unwarranted criticism for not being a ‘Pedri’ is quite unfair.

Barcelona should get Nico Williams, if not Rafael Leão. The ceiling of such a talent so high cannot be overlooked especially when he’s available at (just) 50M — you’ve to pounce on such a deal; he can also play both flanks with utmost 1v1 dynamism, PnP, ball-striking & passing.

Ter Stegen is 31 / 32 — if I can remember correctly & 40-50M is a good offer for him & Barcelona should cash in, especially if Valles is attainable as a replacement — that would be perfect business. I also do think Barcelona should try to sell FdJ to clear out the wage bill.

Fans are ignorant & reductive. People who’ve followed Las Palmas beyond their first half of this season know that they’ve done a tremendous job for their 1st season; they overperformed initially, they couldn’t sustain that because they’re not a top 10 team. Pimienta is great.

When a coach did something great but then devolved to a point that he “had to” leave, he deserves respect no matter how “bad” he ended up being. Pioli took a group of kids to the highest of Italian football/ACM back to the topest of Europe. His era has to be considered a success.

In the 2nd half of the season, Barcelona played a 3-2-2-3 system which had a box-midfield. Gavi played as the top left part of the box-midfield. his role was to stay further up the pitch, link up with the wide full-back, and was positioned like an inverted LW in the 3rd phase.

Pedri revisionism based on this match is nuts. No matter how much you try to twist it, football’s a team sport, and if your team’s heavily dysfunctional, there’s absolutely no chance for a midfielder to do anything crazy. How many times did Pedri penetrate w/ no options to pass?

João Cancelo is a brilliant footballer & I wouldn’t mind signing him for a small fee, but he’s not at all a priority. Barcelona should either look at integrating Faye as Baldé back-up or get a stopgap on a free, because Baldé & Cancelo offer similar dynamics. I’d not sign.

Flick isn’t a defensive red flag—he’s just not too attentive to rest-defense. His block-defending, press & counter pressing are really good & well-coached. He’s really much, much better as a coach than people think he is. I think he could do a good job—if given time.

@guepierp @nocontextfooty Cavani was a brilliant strike in his prime but the qualities Villa possessed were sensational. He was more than just a striker. He "gelled" the Barcelona team in all honesty.

According to Pimienta, he got sacked because Laporta wanted his men at the helm, which makes sense considering he appointed Rafa Marquez as Barça B coach (former player who played under Laporta’s 1st tenure) & Sergi Barjuan as head of La Masia (Laporta’s friend).
Remember, Laporta sacked Pimienta all because he didn't get Barça B promoted, as if that's ever been the purpose of Barça B.

Mitoma has pace, but he doesn’t need world class stride power like Vini/Doku due to how clear his conceptual understanding of dribbling is. He’s excellent at creating a shift in the defender, and then move. Attack his body movement, and then gain an advantage. Excellent deceit.

I’ve done enough Pimienta prop but I’ve to admit that it’s not going to happen until Laporta is here. Realistically, my preferred replacements would be : —Thiago Motta —Imanol Alguacil Both are different prototypes, but would do good to the club. They’d bring a change.

Some top football, but not convinced considering it’s Real Betis. The acres of space they’re leaving in the middle of the pitch is genuinely blasphemous. The real test is when Barcelona fair against teams that are much more compact centrally. This is not a great test.
