It's been a long time coming...(and I was away from my laptop all day π) but I am VERY excited to finally be able to say publicly, we are coming to middays on
@973TheFanSD
! I couldn't be more thrilled to work with
@annieheilbrunn
and to talk Padres with you every day!
@bethanyshondark
The way other countries have been able to crush the curve is to test, trace, and isolate. The federal government has abdicated all responsibility to do this and left it to the states. You should be upset at the lack of contact tracing, testing, and isolation. That's what works.
The Padres just completed a
#DogDaysofAugust
stretch of 27 games in 28 days, including trips to the East Coast twice, and to Colorado.
They went 18-9
#LFGSD
Padres fans, letβs go into tonight with hunger and humility. Nothing is over yet. There is a huge task remaining and not an easy one. Iβm ready to bring energy and noise from 307 for as long as it takes. This pitch, this AB, this moment. Stay present and enjoy!
Padres players definitely notice when a 10-4 Brewers team gets crowds as lame as this on back-to-back nights. Padres fans should be proud of the way they support the team.
I'm devastated. I'm heartbroken.
It's the 2nd-worst sports loss of my lifetime. (2006 Chargers will probably never lose
#1
.) This is an EASY
#2
(and makes Game 4 a never-forget game).
It's the biggest setback in franchise history.
I love(d) this team. They didn't do it.
For everyone who has suffered for 22 years. These last two nights were yours. Remember them. Embrace them. This means something. The
#Padres
are pretty great right now.
This next series is the most anticipated in the *history* of the club. It's 100% earned.
#TakeTheCake
In order for Dave Roberts' attempt to turn the disgrace at Dodger Stadium into "actually it's the Padres' fault and Manny is baaad" to work, it needed one important thing: a willing press to play along. Ken Rosenthal was willing to play along.

Hey
@MLBNetwork
while you are slandering
@itsFatherJoe44
on air and accusing him of cheating, how about the little issue that he *never touched his ears* on field??? Go home, MLB Network, you're drunk
If you can spare a good thought for my mother, she is going into surgery next hour to remove a blood clot from her heart. An emergency procedure but arthroscopic, hopeful for the best.
Here we go, folks.
Overwhelming underdogs with nothing to lose against a traditional rival having their greatest season. A chance to make history. I'd love to say it's gonna be fun, but at their best these games rarely are. It's gonna be torture. But it's our torture, together
Everyone in the Manny contract situation is behaving properly.
Manny *should* opt-out. The market demands it.
The Padres *should* negotiate, and they are.
Reporters should ask questions, they did.
Fans should be at least a little worried, they are.
I think a deal gets done.
It's really something to see how much the Padres' superstars root for one another, and for their teammates. Seeing Tatis and Manny jumping over the rail and dancing for Solano's homer is a sign of how stitched together this club is heading into the playoffs.
We live in a world where people think they can say anything and make it true, but it's not. The receipts always get you. Softest stuff I think I've ever seen in-between games. Amazing.
Here is video of Manny Machado throwing the ball toward the
#Dodgers
dugout. The ball had just been used by Yu Darvish to warm up. Kyle Higashiokaβs throw to second bounced in the dirt, so Darvish received a new ball to begin the inning.
#Padres
Noticed at yesterday's
#Padres
game:
Juan Soto, coming off the field after the T-1st, didn't go into the dugout until he dapped up every player who was heading in with him.
Later, he was embracing the first base coach during a pitching change.
A demonstrative leader.
If the Padres really are hell-bent on adding another mega-contract to this team, I have two responses:
1) Soto
2) wait a year and go for Ohtani
Iβd rather have those two guys long-term than any member of this yearβs FA class.
Blake Snell said it would take him three starts to get into midseason form. I agree. In this fourth start, he looks exactly like I remember from the middle of last season.
Melvin leaving to manage SF is beyond embarrassing for the Padres, it's an indictment of Preller's inability to achieve that thing which Peter Seidler swears he loves: organizational stability.
My wife this morning, "If baseball has these rapid tests and all these protocols and still has an outbreak, they really think things will be better in SCHOOLS?"
Tomorrow, we've got Musgrove on the mound, all the best relievers ready to go, and a lineup that has shown it can do damage from anywhere. Their two Hall of Fame starters are in the rear view, and their top relievers went hard today. Excited to see the Padres do damage!
#LFGSD
The Padres are 145-146 in their last 291 games. It's time for the club to stop telling us how great they are and about their superstars, and to start proving it with real results.
#Padres
planning to sign Dinelson Lamet to a six-year contract.
***
Lamet is expected to undergo right forearm amputation on Wednesday; the club expects it will take him five years to learn to throw left-handed.
He won't play one game for the Padres this season, he'll miss a minimum of 30 games next season, and he has absolutely no one to blame for any of it but himself.
All the bloom is off the FTJ rose. Infuriating.
Last night's decision to pitch Suarez in the 8th against the best hitters, and Estrada in the 9th against the righties bottom-order...my favorite Padres managerial move in many seasons. That's how you do it!
Some of the craziest action you'll ever see in a movie.
More CGI tigers per minute than you'd believe
At least two nutso dance numbers out of nowhere
The songs
The lmao "bosom buddy" moments
RRR is NUTS.
I'll be hopping on with
@BenAndWoods
a day early this morning, chatting with you around 7:35 about the
#Padres
, the closer situation and the trade deadline...plus I've got a sincerely insane streaming TV recommendation for you. Talk to you soon on
@973TheFanSD
!
If I had told you in March the Padres...
* will have five All-Stars
* FTJ will hit 40HR and steal 25 bags, MVP
* Musgrove first no-no
* Melancon big year at closer
* Cronenworth steps up to star level
...and with all that, finish with a losing record.
What would you have said?
The arm gives what the arm gives. Get well, Joe, and we'll see you in 2026. Pitching half a season on half a UCL, Joe gave the Padres everything he had.
One of the most disappointing games in franchise history, to be sure. But it doesn't *have* to be a season-ender. However, if SD can't figure out the LA bullpen, they are in huge trouble. Because they aren't gonna see another Dodgers starter this series.
Wil Myers' defense at first base was tremendous tonight, and he had two ropes to RCF that got run down. Absolutely would have him back in there against the lefty in G1 on Tuesday.
Three great things the Padres did tonight to hurt LA later:
1) got to Yamamoto right away. How can they trust him in a Game 5 now?
2) forced Roberts to use all his trusted relievers in a Game 1
3) Treinen throws 39 pitches + up-and-down, he may not be the same for a while
51 games left for the Padres. Win 30 and you are a 91-win club, easy-peasy to make the playoffs.
Objective
#1
: win at least 30 games
Objective
#2
: have the club come together in this span
Then, crush fools in the playoffs.
#Gameplan
BREAKING: The Los Angeles Dodgers are making significant progress on a deal that would send them star right-hander Max Scherzer and star shortstop Trea Turner from the Washington Nationals for a prospect-laden return, sources tell ESPN.
After being the toast of MLB all season, the
#Padres
were given the mid-afternoon start time, the ESPN F-team, and now national writers are feting the Cardinals.
Theyβll never give it to you. You have to take it from them.
#Respect
#TakeTheCake
What I'll take away from being there tonight was first, the way Soto embraced the crowd. The way he swept and strutted to RF with his arms out was pure showmanship.
And the sound. The SOUND! THAT is San Diego sports sound. Love. Fire. Energy! Passion!
Unforgettable.
They've added a bridge relief arm, a 6th starter, and a new DH platoon. This will replace four terrible players with four average/decent ones. This is literally what I was calling for the last month. Not gonna complain one bit. Let's ride.
The Padres said--publicly and explicitly--that they intend to compete with a 200M payroll in 2024.
I am going to choose to believe them.
As such, this club is now in a lighter, more flexible position to improve. Let's go Padres. The next few weeks could be really fun.
REAL TALK: how many people figured that by 3pm today, Juan Soto would be on the Dodgers roster (along with some other annoyingly good piece ala a Josh Bell), and they'd get a stud like Hader, and the Padres would be settling for Joey Gallo?
And it's REVERSED!
August 2, 2022.
My gosh, the Padres needed that. SO badly. Losing this game was going to be a soul crusher. Winning this game makes you feel like everything's possible again.
