Chief Meteorologist Darby Bybee, bringing you the latest weather updates. Links and RTs aren’t endorsements. Opinions are my own.
Something to consider:
What would the world be like if everyone told the truth the majority of the time? Not in such a way that there's no farce in the world (gotta have comedy & humor in our lives, right!). But, essentially in all meaningful conversation.
Friends, NO ONE can “control” the weather. Cloud seeding, or anything similar, produces shaky results at best.
It’s disturbing to hear such nonsense from anyone, especially politicians (even if it is just one).
Meteorologists are not Gods.
We’re just nerds.
"This is not the kind of team you all think they are."
This isn't lip service from Saban. He doesn't do that. I personally still believe in Pittman, the coaching staff & the players. And while choosing patience over pride can be risky, pride over patience is riskier.

Angela Luedecke says her friends husband shot this video, just south of Decatur off hwy 59. We did have a tornado on the ground in this area tonight, LOTS of damage reported near Decatur.

TORNADO SPOTTED, SOUTH OF SILOAM SPRINGS:
Here's that wall cloud that moved over Siloam Springs this evening. After looking at it again, we see a brief tornado clearly touched down just south of town near OK state line. No reports of injuries.

Here's the microburst that formed just NW of downtown Fort Smith this evening. Can't say for sure if it's one of the several that caused damage today, but, my guess is it did (timelapse taken from 3:40-3:56pm).

BREAKING NEWS:
40/29 just learned the Arkansas Supreme Court has ruled votes for/against recreational marijuana in Arkansas WILL BE counted in November.

Here is a picture of the tornado that hit near Jay, OK tonight. I enhanced the lighting on it a little, so as to see the tornado a little clearer. We know of a lot of damage in that area tonight.

These are the most reliable wind gust reports I've been able to find along the Gulf coast of FL.
Of course, higher gusts have likely occurred in places where gauges don't exist or were damaged. Pretty extraordinary.
#HurricaneIan
Just got home. Widespread damage throughout our neighborhood in Rogers. Including our house. But, I personally feel pretty lucky that all those trees fell in the opposite direction of the house. Other homes in our neighborhood are not so lucky.
#arwx
You cannot control the weather, friends.
Cloud seeding & Stratospheric Aerosol Injection ARE NOT CONTROL. And neither are being done by hurricane hunters.
But, if you buy into the thoughtless conspiracy theories ... I think it's fair to say YOU ARE under the control of someone.
If people, including elected public officials, are telling you that we can control the weather, they are wrong. Rhetoric like that is unhelpful at best, and dangerous at worst.
From someone who routinely flies into hurricanes, I assure you that we cannot control the weather.
Got this video from Faith Harvey, in Delight, AR. She says her fiance, Billy, shot the video on July 4th.
We could see more storms Weds, even a few strong ones, with damaging winds possible. But, lightning is ALWAYS a threat with storms. Please respect mother nature!
#arwx
What we saw today was one of the rarest winter situations most of us will ever encounter. Strong thunderstorms, one or two of which with near-supercell characteristics… producing sleet, freezing rain and hail all at once. Incredible.

6-3-24 UPDATE: New video from 5-26-24
This is the second tornado (of the seven that formed), EF2, dropped on S Decatur. Taken by Jimmy Corter, from Y City Rd.
We went thru & grabbed the frames in which lightning or blown transformers light up the tornado.

@NWStulsa
Current forecast is for temps in the upper 50s to around 60, with sunshine, for the 11am start of Saturday's game against Auburn.
Essentially the best football weather imaginable.
@RazorbackFB
#WPS
The ignorance here is extraordinary to me.
Belittling an entire group of people who work 12 hours a day, weekends/vacations... longer hours when tornadoes, damaging winds & flash flooding are headed toward a group of people we actually care about... is pretty lame

What I learned today.
-Auburn is not very good.
-Arkansas is pretty good.
-Barry Odem (genius so far), Kendal Briles and Sam Pittman have made life worth living again for Razorback fans.
-Our coaches inherited far better players than anyone realized

AR wins 33-21
Other than the fact it's not possible to steer or control hurricanes in anyway, there are zero good reasons for anyone to even try to move one toward it's own country.
But, I can certainly think of some reasons why a hedge fund manager would want you to believe it is possible.
I grew up on the Gulf of Mexico. Been watching storms since I was a young boy. I have NEVER seen a storm start here and go east.
Do you think Gov’t is using technology to manipulate weather patterns & storms?
Doctors are telling us this is essentially becoming a pandemic for the unvaccinated.
And they continue to tell us there is no good reason to think this vaccine will do anything to you in the long run, besides possibly save your life. I got vaccinated, I hope you will, too.
I'm regularly told I should just stick to the weather... which is really a compliment, lol.
Regardless, I am going to continue to advocate for the vaccines. It IS NOT a losing battle.
The proof?
5,624 new doses given on Thurs. Statistically, that's 50 - 100 lives possibly saved
Hey

@4029Darby
Tonight & especially overnight thru the early AM hours Wed, we're all on the same team trying to protect the good people of Northwest Arkansas, the River Valley & SW MO.
Let's save lives from these potential dangerous storms tonight.
Ten years at 40/29.
In that time, I met the woman of my dreams, got the job of my dreams & brought into the world the child of our dreams.
While it's not been all sunshine & spherical, red noses, it has been the best 10 years of my life.
Thank you, ALL OF YOU, for this gift!
If you're not willing to get vaccinated...
...and yet you are willing to take a medication meant for horses...
...you might need to reassess your choices in life

More video of the tornado that went through West Little Rock. We don’t yet have confirmation of injuries/casualties (as of 4:45pm), but, we do know UAMS is now operating in its mass casualty status Level 1.

in the Fall.
And I really love getting to show live looks like this one of Beaver Lake on the evening news every night.
...CONFIRMED TORNADO...
This was the storm at Monroe, OK earlier this evening. We knew it likely had a tornado with it. Fairly sizable one, as you can see here...

@NWStulsa
A little grainy. But, you can clearly see the inflow into the storm for the first few seconds of this timelapse from Lowell, looking N, as the tornado approached last night. Then you see the rapid spin in the clouds, likely the tornado, as it comes into Rogers.

With the releases going on at Beaver Lake, and the brutally cold temps we've had, that leftover mist has collected on the trees lining the cliff next to the dam.

First day back (I feel very lucky to be at a company that provides 4 weeks of paid paternity leave ❤️)! Got to show off the baby with some of the folks in the newsroom, too!
But, it’s time to get back to work my friends. More details on the forecast at 5 & 6!

There's a chance for tornadoes, damaging winds, hail, accumulating snow, brutal wind and pipe-bursting cold air ... all within the next 5 days in NWA/River Valley.
You're probably going to want to be keeping up with the forecast, folks. We're here for ya.

Finished cleaning up the front of the house & roof today. Pretty proud of what I accomplished. Got a lot done in the back, too (believe it or not, ha). It’ll take time.
Mostly thinking about those who had it worse. Long road ahead for Benton County. Count your blessings.
#arwx
The 1st tornado to enter Benton county was very large/strong. EF3 rating, about 1.7 miles wide. Should go down as widest on record in NWA (beating out the Oct, 2019 1.5 mile wide tor).
Rogers damage seems at least a mile wide, maybe more. More info on all the rest to come
#arwx
WHEW, colors are popping across NWA & the River Valley!
At or very near "high color" in the higher elevations of the Ozarks & Ouachitas (this is Cavanal Hill in the Ouachitas, 10-23-23). "Peak colors" in some higher elevations by the end of the week.

@FoliageReport
Friends, quite honestly, that had the potential to be MUCH worse.
A lot of hail, but, none of the giant hail that was possible. Only very isolated, minor wind damage. No tornadoes over our area (though other areas weren’t so lucky).
I’ll take it.

Brief, but, spectacular! A wave of aurora borealis washed over our area this evening. I didn’t get to see it myself! But, those who did say it lasted only about 15 minutes at most.

But, still getting reports from rural areas, looking N.

Significant damage to George Elementary, Nilfisk warehouse in Springdale. Damage all over the place here. PLEASE, avoid this area, first responders NEED TO BE ABLE TO DO THEIR JOB. No confirmed reports of injuries yet, that would be a miracle.

Carrie Jernigan, from Alma, bought out a Payless Shoe store to get shoes to kids who need them in the River Valley. This morning she was on Strahan & Sarah, & THEY surprised HER with 30 thousand$ in school supplies for a giveaway event she is putting on.

Happy National Coming Out Day to all who have gone thru this journey! I’ve had many friends & some family go thru this process. It’s often a painful experience. But, hopefully it won’t always be. Stay strong!!!!
Happy National Coming Out Day! 🏳️🌈Whether you’re out and proud (and loud about it like me 😅) or still figuring it out, this day is for appreciating and celebrating that journey of acceptance.
Be yourself and love yourself for it! ❤️
12:23PM UPDATE: One of the two "critical" injuries from this morning's tornado in Springdale has now been downgraded to "stable." Positive news, hoping for the same for the other person
#arwx
THANK YOU to all the linemen who have worked tirelessly to restore power. And let us not forget the lineman who died in the effort shortly after the storm hit. On this Friday evening, they continue working. Nearly all power has been restored.
5-30-24 UPDATE:
-Rogers tornado rated EF-2, 1.7 MILES WIDE!
-Very nearly as large as the 1.8 mile wide tornado NW of Decatur
-Additional EF-1 damage confirmed at two other locations closer to War Eagle
-That's 7 tornadoes in Benton county alone, two nearly two miles wide

Governor Asa Hutchinson: “masks are now mandated for Arkansas residents“
Mandate goes into effect Monday. Mandate in effect only when social distancing is not possible, both in doors and outdoors. Does not apply to sports participants. Misdemeanor offense.

Not usually much of a selfie guy. But, love this jacket so much, I thought I’d share. Passed down to me from my dad who got it in 1980 something. Still does a pretty good job keeping the cold out all these years later.
Folks in NWA, like it or not, believe it or not, we're about to get good and slammed by this winter storm.
Despite warm ground/air temps, the snow will come down heavy enough to accum on at least some roads, and certainly some bridges. PLEASE be careful on the roads.
#arwx
JUST INCREDIBLE. You can actually see the two spots where the lightning hits the ground. Like a bomb going off. Have to wonder if this was a positive strike
No one should feel like they can't be themselves ... anywhere, at anytime. While it's clear this kind of hate won't just go away, hopefully it's becoming less common. Stay strong, sir!
Ugh, this is why I rarely mention my husband on air… But I shouldn’t let my fear of hateful emails stop me from living my life out loud.
So if you ever feel the need to send me an email like this. Don’t waste your time. 🙄

registered a GIANT increase in vaccinations Monday! Several thousand were late reports, but, still impressive.
Still ALOT to do. But, I think it's important we recognize the thousands of people who overcame real fears in order to get the shot.
THANK YOU!!!

David Petueli in Springdale shared this video of the massive damage to the Nilfisk Warehouse in Springdale. About half the building destroyed. No confirmed reports of significant injuries. Hoping it stays that way (you can hear us talking about it, still live on the air)

Legitimate proof that if you wait a little bit, the weather can change dramatically around here. Just a little over an hour after the snow stopped in Rogers, almost all of it was gone.

At approximately 12:04 PM, just minutes ago, I saw a very large, very bright, bolide meteor to my west, looking from near Mulberry. Looked like it was somewhere over Oklahoma. Very bright! Especially for mid day.

When you go to school for meteorology, the first thing you learn is this...
"Thunder only happens when it's raining. Players only love you when their playing."
