Here are the red branch line coaches I completed earlier this year. These are original Tenmille kits - one was built and painted by me, and the other by Jacob. Finally, I airbrushed the weathering. I'm really happy with how well they match for being built by different people!

During the early days of #ProjectTigerMoth , I pitched a "backup" story using models that had already been built. At the time I had Henry, Percy and a white tanker; I wrote this story as a creative exercise in working around limitations. Here is the result:

This Tenmille GWR van was originally built from the modern kit, which was in abhorrent shape and didn't match the older style used in the show. After stripping all the parts to the bare wood and with a new vacuum-formed "skin" by @/ThomasModeller, I think it shaped up quite well!

The model was in extremely rough shape so I commissioned Jacob to fix it; and it looks like he pulled off the impossible because it is just flawless. It's seriously impressive Special thanks to Andy for designing the lettering decals!

Thought this might be entertaining to look at, a WIP plasticine sculpt of Percy's drowsy face I was working on a couple years ago Unfortunately it was too thin to look right, so it ended up getting scrapped. Still pretty interesting seeing the process lol

⚠️Emergency repairs⚠️ Last year, Henry got damaged while being packed for a trip. It was only minor damage and relatively simple to glue back together, but it needed more work to be presentable for the Great British Train Show at Brampton earlier this year. 🧵

Jacob really came in clutch on the lettering! He designed me clean images of Scruffy's side lettering which I then used my Cricut machine to cut out stencils as a guide (although really I ended up hand painting most of it after the basic spacing was down). Love the results!

For the color, I went with Rustoleum Brick Red. The coaches look really battered and gross with grime by S4/5, so I mixed a greenish-grey color for the weathering. It really transformed them into looking the part

Ultimately I was never happy with this story, writing it to fit into the "Thomas format" proved to be really frustrating and not enjoyable. I think writing this made me learn that trying to mimic someone else's style is the greatest limitation a writer can put on one's self

The rest was simple - the airbrush gave me the control needed to feather the paint on, and once I was happy with it I could then remove the masking tape and let dry. Overall not perfect, but it turned out just fine in a pinch. I don't think anyone at the show noticed!

Henry has seen several minor changes over the years, including a new cylinder color (the old one was matched to the wrong vw color lol) and matte rods. There are still some details left to add but I think he's improved a lot from 2020

Firstly, I sanded the affected area flat to be as smooth as possible, then I masked around it. For the touch-up, I wanted to use an airbrush rather than the spray can, so I sprayed some into a cup. This already has thinner mixed into it which makes it perfect for airbrushing

It's still awaiting its steps being placed back on (it had difficulty navigating curves with the bogies) but it really runs quite well. The cream is such a unique look, it's starting to grow on me. Maybe I'll paint the other side to match...
