You can’t take organs from a corpse without the deceased’s written permission, even if it will save lives.
When you outlaw abortion, you’re allowing women less bodily autonomy than the dead.

Legislation can be complicated but shoes are simple.
Sandals or boots, we all show up differently... But the important thing is that we have a choice in the matter.
I was force sterilized as an infant.
I have less body autonomy than women AND corpses. And there are plenty of people who want me dead for simply existing.
Thanks for supporting the

@CoryBooker
! Journey in the background knows what’s up... we can and will have body autonomy

Alongside the

I was proud to stand behind Garrett's family and friends yesterday, honoring his memory and furthered his legacy with yet another march on APD. It wasn’t my time to speak yesterday but I do have something to say in my own voice as a Human Rights Commissioner and a human being:
As the Governor and certain State reps (yet again) use children as a political pawn, they conveniently leave out that the same procedures they're attempting to block for trans kids are forced on
#intersex
kids without their consent.
Our resolution (
#SCR110
) urging the medical profession to delay medically unnecessary genital surgeries on
#intersex
babies has now fully passed the CA Legislature. This is the first time a state has gone on record supporting the intersex community & opposing these surgeries.
To the media: I hope to see more headline's like
@USATODAY
’s, "'Loved her unconditionally': Austin protest shooting victim remembered for devotion to fiancée, racial justice," that accurately reflect Garrett's altruistic life and death.
He carried the gun because from Portland to Charlottesville, we've seen racist vigilantes drive cars into crowds of protestors and he sought to protect himself and others in case that were to occur—which it did, this weekend in Austin.
Intersex and trans rights aren’t oppositional to one another; it’s about consent. Trans children shouldn’t be blocked from the same procedures intersex kids have forced upon us.
It's obvious no medical professionals were involved in the drafting of HB1952's attack on trans and intersex Texans so
@karentangmd
and I have taken the *liberty* to help clarify some things for our dear Texas legislators...
At the Stonewall caucus, our friend
@Danielle4All

Thank you, Josh Watkins and
@spectrum_south
for perfectly capturing and amplifying my voice so that I can help do the same for others... Happy
#IntersexAwarenessDay
!
To elected officials: I hope to see fewer tweets like "three guns were drawn, eight shots were fired, and a protester was tragically killed,"
@MayorAdler
passive-voiced platitude that deflects gravity away from what happened and blame from who perpetrated it.
What about
#intersex
people? I was born with the genitalia I have AND the genetic code I have—which way would your eugenicists have it, Trump mein fuhrer? I will go to the Supreme Court if I have to... So y’all better make it to the ballot box November 6.
Despite the fact that Garrett served as a full-time care-giver for his wife who is quadriplegic and wheelchair-bound, and in addition to serving warm meals to folks experiencing homelessness weekly, he still managed to show up every day for 50 days straight to support
#BLM
.
One day, our legislators will realize that options are a good thing, for footwear or gender or whatever. To realize the beautiful diversity of our humanity, you just need to take a walk in others’ shoes...
@queersurgeon
Legislation targeting the trans community also affects intersex folks but uses coded language. Memos and bills often refer to intersex people as having "disorders of sex development", contributing to stigma and making it harder for the media / public to know they're about us too.
Returned home just in time to catch an old friend in a back alley and reintroduce ourselves... Me as an

who will fight for my community. We stand together,
@IlhanMN
!
He knew the injustice his partner faced at the hands of the medical industrial complex that landed her unable to care for herself is systemic discrimination against and mistreatment of black women, who face disparate health outcomes and higher maternal mortality because of it.
Nah, in my 28 years I’ve never peed. I actually exude urine through my pores... Works for me though, in fact—I think I might just convert everyone else to do the same!
(Thank you for attending my

We can stand for trans people without stepping on intersex folks, and vise versa. If we can choose our clothing, we should certainly be able to choose the body parts that wear them.
To my fellow citizens of the United States: I hope that Garrett's example might inspire some armchair activists who retreated after posting a black square on Insta to step back (or roll back) into the fight.
He showed up daily with her, for her, and yet this point has been entirely missed in 99% of the coverage I've seen in major publications and by elected officials in this city.

The title of pieces from
@washingtonpost
to
@nytimes
have all referenced that he carried a gun as he was mown down. This is slanting the story away from what's important and into the hands of the opposition, seeking to vilify protestors despite the fact that they too own weapons.
This is not an oversight, it is an intentional effort to reframe the conversation into a gun rights debate and away from the movement that most of the powers-that-be wish would just die off already.
But I won't let his message die with him. Garrett showed up because he knew
#BlackLivesMatter
and wanted everyone else to know it too. He was the ultimate ally, dying for his cause, and he deserves more respect than skewing his message to quell the fire he sought to instigate.

Whether we like it or not, Texas is an open-carry state. I actually believe strongly in the second amendment, and as a sexual assault survivor have considered (legally) purchasing a gun for my own protection.

Do I think everyday citizens should have access to assault rifles? No, but Garrett was absolutely in his right to do so and as former military, was trained to use it.
Thanks to all those who’ve had the courage to speak truth to power these past 24 hours... One questionable publication does not define the city of Austin, voters do. See y’all at the polls, and at all your doors—every damn day—rain or shine until then, -A

@queersurgeon
Targeting trans and intersex children is unholy. Trans kids should be sacred, not scared. Intersex kids are beautiful, not broken. If it ain't broke, don't fix it—and don't erase us from the conversation either!
That the majority of articles hinge on whether or not he had a gun, whether or not he pointed it at the individual that drove into a group of humans or elsewhere misses the point and turns Garrett's sacrifice into fodder for the evil forces he dedicated his life to fighting.

Propaganda saying "surgeries do not happen on kids" erases the experience of intersex people like me who have had our body parts removed or rearranged to better fit the gender binary. These surgeries don't happen to trans kids and SHOULDN'T happen to intersex youth.
