None of these are a reason to smile just yet but it is cause for some less than cautious optimism. Even in places where the authoritarians are "winning," their grip on long term power is tenuous. Especially if they're client states to regimes that are being weakened by protest...

Say what you want about Kamala Harris, but my little girl who was born in 2012 has only known a Democratic Party that elected a Black president, nominated the first woman on a major ticket, and has now tapped a Black woman for Vice President. Her world will be bigger than mine.

A reminder; the Republican Party has only won the popular vote once since 1992. On top of that, over the past decade, Democrats have won more votes than Republicans at almost 2:1. The GOP is a white minority party that only holds power by suppressing votes. That’s the story.
