Today, let's talk about the real estate of short-lets (Air BnB) based on my experience of how I converted a 4-bedroom semi-detached duplex in Lekki into a short-let (Air BnB).
If you're considering starting a short-let (Air BnB) business, you should pay attention to this🧵
Another day; another grind 💪🏼
Sometime this week, I’ll talk about the real estate of short-lets from ideation to execution based on a true life story - I designed, built and managed a Shortlet business in Lekki, Lagos 2 years ago.
This is why you need to plant trees in your homes o Nigerians.
Architect will give you design with landscape, you’ll say they should add one bq in place of it.
I was in a meeting with the head of residential association in Lagos last week, where I was presenting their fire station design to them.
While I was showing him the floor plans, he said ‘I don’t understand any of this, it looks like Latin to me’ and it hit me that a lot of
I remember when I was doing some research for an office building renovation that I worked in and I had to keep correcting the client that I’m not an interior decorator.
Thinking about that, I’m compelled to discuss:
THE ROLE OF AN INTERIOR ARCHITECT ON A BUILDING PROJECT.
Someone came to our office last week with public transport to drop a check of N120m for 40% down payment of a property purchase.
He still used that same public transport to go back. I was marveled
Visited this (not-biological) uncle who has a 70M Mercedes among other machines (as he calls them), and he was on his singlet seated under a tree, where we chatted over drinks. He didn’t buy diesel in his gen because “the prices are ridiculous”.
I was confused 😭 and impressed.
If you’ve worked on an Interior / building project, you’ll come across the words ‘spatial configuration’ a lot, especially in the design / ideation stage.
So today, let’s delve into the discourse of SPATIAL CONFIGURATION: The Artistry of Crafting Harmonious Interior spaces.
Based on a thread I previously posted on the role of an Interior Architect in the AEC industry, I received a lot of questions, most common of which was ‘what is the difference between an Interior Architect, Designer & Decorator?’
So, today, let’s discuss:
UNVEILING THE
I did something interesting this morning with google’s AI software Gemini 1.5;
I uploaded a floor plan from Pinterest and prompted it to analyze and modify for a family of 8.
Check this out: 🧵
Sometimes I think about students still studying Architecture and the world of shock they’re going to experience when they graduate.
What makes it worse is that from the day they graduate, they’re already several steps behind their counterparts in advanced countries
During a client brief meeting last week, after all the deliberations, I sent an invoice to her mail and her response was ‘You Architects just like to charge people anyhow’. Pondering on that, I started to wonder about other misconceptions people have about Architects
So, today,
This is a man who has been practicing Architecture for the past 31 years. He apparently never worked under anyone and he’s been doing fine.
Thought this would inspire someone..
Today, I want to talk about THE ARCHITECTURAL PROCESS. Because it seems like some people honestly believe that all we do as Architects, is draw lines. A Thread 🧵
It begins with a vision which is communicated by the client in form of a brief.
I was having a deep thought today about the applications of shading devices in a building and how it subtracts the heat from the sun and gives you only the light while still allowing you to enjoy natural ventilation.
SEEMINGLY little things like this is why you need an Architect
Yesterday, I discovered this new AI software that can transform an existing space to a proposed design. So I uploaded a photo, put a few text prompts , set a theme and voila!: (the first is the original photo and the rest are AI-generated)
About 2 weeks or so ago, I received a mail invite for a zoom webinar titled ‘Honoring Deans Nwoko’ and even though I wasn’t able to attend, I decided to do some personal research on the pioneer design-artiste, (as he preferred to be called) Demas Nwoko.
Let’s take a look at some
I had a very interesting conversation with Arc. Adeyemo Shokunbi, the architect behind the renowned Abijo mosque (featured on archdaily) about his design methodologies, something he calls the ‘New Alternative Nigerian Aesthetic/Architecture’ - NANA.
It is a way of expressing a
I saw a post on the TL yesterday about how we don’t have enough affordable housing in Lagos, especially in high-brow areas like Lekki;
So, today, let’s talk about
AFFORDABLE HOUSING SOLUTIONS IN ARCHITECTURE 🏡
Advantages of having a courtyard in your building:
1. Better ventilation & passive cooling
2. Better natural light penetration
3. Better overall user comfort
4. Can act as a hub - creates communal environment.
Etc..
This thought that turned into a tweet has now been turned into an idea in the form of

I need a camera come 2024. I want to document parts of Lagos and analyze their unique Architecture - the style, history, culture, etc.
Places like Yaba with colonial architecture, Ikorodu with Yoruba architecture, Lagos island with ‘contemporary’ architecture and much more.
Btw, loft apartments aren't designed for families and people that would be entertaining a lot of guests. It's sort of a luxurious, more spacious studio apartment..
Dear Nigerians,
A draughtsman is not an Architect
An engineer is not an Architect
A builder is not an Architect
An interior decorator is not an Architect
They have no business drafting your building plan.
Happy New Month 😊
Architectural drawings are the visual language that bring designs to life. Beyond aesthetic blueprints, they serve as meticulous guides for turning visions into tangible structures. Let's demystify the realm of Architectural drawings.
If you’ve worked long enough as an Architect, you’ll have heard the phrase: ‘Is it not to draw lines?’ or ‘all you have to do is put it on your computer and it would handle the rest’.
So, today, let us discuss:
Architectural Software and Technology: Introducing non-architects
I’m actually very surprised that in 2024, there are still schools of Architecture demanding ink & pencil drawings from students,
We have entered the age of AI & computational design. Schools should be teaching advanced CAD software, prompt engineering for AI generation, etc..
I wish the Architectural Department will let their students to print their drawings for jury since we won't be doing this tracing sh*t in real life.
Pencil drawings for interim jury
Printed drawings for final jury.
Drafting pens is literally very expensive. Help the students.
I need a rush. I need to apply for something. Something competitive that I know they won't give me based off fame or my school results.
Please anything. Tell me.
I need that suspense of waiting to know if you'll get it, that JOY of finding out you got it. It's been so long.
I was doing some research the other day and I came across this picture below. The way the natural light was used to accentuate the double volume dining area inspired me to go further into the research.
So, today let’s discuss:
Shedding Light on Design: Unveiling the Art of
I hate when people are so unintentional with design. How can you as a person allow the house you’re going to spend a lot of time in look like this?😂 are you a crackhead?💀
This right here is what you can categorize as Nigerian Architecture. The OG Lagos buildings that are unfortunately being demolished instead of preserved & renovated.
My design process is simple -
1. Receive brief and do negotiations
2. Do research
3. Binge-watch one season of any show I’m watching until a few days to submission
4. Do Said work
5. Submit
At this point, I’ve already considered the environmental context, movement & circulation, furniture arrangement, lighting & ventilation but what is visible is just lines.
That’s Architecture for you
Then they’ll graduate and one John Thomas would offer them N50k for a 3 units of a 4-bedroom semi-detached duplex. I really do feel sorry for y’all because nobody is coming to save you 😞
If you must use suspended stairs in your home, avoid slippery materials like glass and tiles. Instead go for materials with friction like wood, concrete or steel.
You don’t need to sacrifice safety to achieve beauty. The former is more important than the latter. It’s also
I’m almost 100% certain an engineer did this. I’m not even trying to diss engrs or anything, you can just tell from the graphical representation..
Whoever did it needs to be tried at the market square for his/her crimes..
If I were to redo this Architecture journey again, I would change a few things. It would go like:
BSc > MSc > NYSC > Small firm (very good learning experience) > big firm (expand exposure & network) > real estate company (get your own corner & learn about marketing) > works

Hi guys, I have an important announcement:
Today will be the last day of the educative threads on Architecture (for now).
With my new found interest in documenting and talking about Architecture, combined with my new role of architectural content writer at RethinkingTheFuture,
Engineers really acting like a lot of them don’t do architectural drawings and completely cut off the architect from the project pipeline is funny to me.
Btw, this is also me telling you that an engineer shouldn’t design your building. The primary scope of their work is
All the quotes and replies condemning this work are really annoying sha.
These are STUDENTS that probably didn’t have any experience building signages prior to this and also probably using THEIR own money.
I believe they deserve more grace.
DESIGN BUILD
At Ife Architecture school we do more than design, we build too, here’s the workshop project of our part 3 students.
check our IG page “architecture_oau” for the building process.
Hope you love it! 🥰

For my last thread on my series of topics exploring the intricacies of Architectural practice, I want to talk about my new found love, Architectural journalism.
Let us discuss:
The Crucial Role of Architectural Journalism: The Impactful Bridge Between Architects and the Public
The comment section of this post is unsuprisingly dissapointing. Nobody is questioning how high the first roof is. Someone even said the high roof adds 'aesthetics' to the building.
There is ABSOLUTELY no reason why your roof needs to be this high.
Following the news of yet another building demolition exercise in Lagos State, I felt compelled to talk about why you 🫵🏼 should consult a professional before investing in Real Estate.
Particularly,
THE ROLE OF AN ARCHITECT IN THE REAL ESTATE SECTOR
🧵
@AdoraNwodo
You’re shifting the goal post yet again Adora.
Growing up, we had a maid at different points, assisting with chores and what not. That never stopped my parents from teaching us how to cook, clean, do laundry, etc
Having money shouldn’t make one redundant at home..
These are pictorial explanations of how a courtyard helps ventilation, it’s called the stack effect.
The opening above a courtyard helps disperse hot air out of a building because when air enters a building, it adapts the temperature within and hot air rises so 2+2 = 4
Architecture is one of the few occupations where your main hustle can also be your side hustle. You're working in a company and doing your thing on the side..
In conclusion, Architectural drawings are not mere blueprints; they are the lexicon of a visual language. Every line, annotation, and symbol forms a collective narrative, transforming aspirations into tangible, enduring structures.
Drop a comment or send a DM if you need
This is just wow 😮🤌🏼
The artistically fixed shading devices reduce heat from the sun, eliminate sun glare and still allow proper ventilation, ensuring proper thermal comfort while also looking very attractive.
This is why you hire an Architect 🫵🏼
This a very good example of incorporating SHADING DEVICES for thermal comfort in a building. This can only be done by an ARCHITECT.
Another reason why getting an architect before you commence your construction project is a must.
So I decided to take the design a step further, using text-to-image gen AI considering my original concept and it gave me these.
I’m looking to build a couple of these but I need your help to decide 😁
I’m starting to really enjoy these AI-generated walkthroughs. These would’ve taken days to generate with the usual design process (with much better quality ofcourse), but were generated within mere minutes.
Engineers are some of the funniest set of people you'd ever meet. You claim that Architects shouldn't head a construction team, yet some of you are out there creating Architectural drawings because 'you were taught in school'
What do you want us to do gan gan?
Architects! Let’s talk.
How are you surviving this period with the way people price drawings? The demand for professional services seems to have dropped. Most people just want us to do ArchiViz and there can only be so many ArchViz artists out there
So how are y’all surviving?
@domero__
@kizlykay
@vangeorgh
Are you sure we have any unrealistic design? I think we only have either underpaid or inexperienced or underexposed engineers.
Some Nigerian engineers would have given you 1001 reasons why this will never work.
1). Site Plan: At the genesis lies the site plan. It delineates property boundaries, setbacks, land use and landscape design, laying the groundwork for the Architectural narrative. A compass for the entire project.
How the hell did Frank Gehry convince his client to build this as a residential development?💀
I understand the Guggenheim museum is, well, a museum, but this is a residential apartment ffs 😂
If you already have a piece of land, the Architect should be your first point of contact. He/She would come up with a building design that would consist of the floor plan(s), sections, elevations, etc
