So much of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. fandom itself forgets that outside of the Zone the world is pretty much normal and most Stalkers voluntarily entered it. Makes the setting and factions way more unique and interesting than just plain old "whol worl is a fuck" setting.

@ChrisVoiceman How have we completely 180'd on late 2000s/2010's color correction in games. People shat on it for like 10 years and now people are defending it in retrospect. Personally, I don't think it looks good, there's better ways to convey a dark/sickly tone beyond a filter.

@MutualAidFox I played the games but have not read any of the Metro books outside of 2033, but irrespective of what life is like outside of Russia in Metro I would still pick STALKER. You can have your normal life but also go risk it all for adventure and some cool rocks if you want!

Halo TV show looks like it's gonna suck eggs. Also the rebels having an AKM is stupid and lazy prop design end of story. Cortana's design is awful esp considering they already have a good frame of reference. And to cap it off the marine & elite designs look genuinely terrible

@allon_johnny I agree, the concept of there being a fucked zone full of mind bending anomalies and mutants is severely underutilised. Off the top of my head I can only think of the Tarkovsky Stalker film and annihilation (both great and worth checking out).

The Fallout TV show is great and tells a better story than the Bethesda games ever have. I do wish it was set in the black-isle/obsidian style Fallout where societies have actually emerged and rebuilt rather than pure post-apocalypse But they were never gonna go for that.

@TheIshikawaRin It's just lazy prop design, you can easily sci-fi an AK up (e.g. titanfall 2) Also it's 2500+, AKM is from like the 50s - the closest rl equivalent is if u were out here in Iraq/Syria/Ukraine using a fuckin handcannon from the 1400s.

The outrage levied against SDA is unwarranted. But this "gung-ho" attitude towards the actual events contained in the attached photo is disconcerting. I've never known anyone who was there or had friends in other units there to talk about it in such a manner retrospectively.

@Rally_Armaments @HarkenZeke I agree. Although the game is set in the 2010’s, it started development in the early 2000’s. So the art direction for the characters is very much based off late 90’s/early 00’s military gear and scifi. It’s why the Mercs look like 90s Seals or SAS.

@VersedFlame That's fair. I think it looks really cool. I appreciate the enguinity of old SF units when it came to unorthod gear to achieve a kit for their specialised use with the limitations of the time period. Navy Seal VBSS commanders with flight crew helmets are another great example.
