actually huge news. IMAX clearly believes Dune Part 2 will draw more eyes to their screens than The Marvels. Cinema is healing, and the dominance of the MCU is giving way to better films
when I saw Furiosa on Tuesday night, at one point characters were shouting "Dementus!" and this girl a few rows ahead of me suddenly exclaimed "Dementus!" seemingly involuntarily, as she immediately covered her mouth and looked extremely embarassed
her friends were like wtf
in Dune Part 2, Harkonnen society seems to revere their rulers as divine/sacred. the Arena caller says stuff like “the Holy Birthday of Feyd” or “the Baron’s presence blesses us”
when Paul says “That’s how we’ll win, by being Harkonnens,” he’s embracing his own cult of worship
“Denis kept apologizing and saying ‘In this one, it’s really not a big part. I won’t be offended if you say no.’ I was like ‘I don’t care! I just want to come and watch you work. This is a dream.’”
- Florence Pugh on being offered the role of Princess Irulan in ‘Dune 2’
a great movie doesn’t seem to make a billion dollars - it’s called to it. and if your box office is low, you’ll still be the only thing i ever needed you to be…Dune Part 2
come with me, i’ll teach you everything you need to know about road war
*30 seconds later*
we sure have done a lot of road warring together. just a whole big ton of road warring since that time i offered to teach you about it, all that time ago
Warner Bros on Thursday released a new trailer for
#DunePartTwo
, Denis Villeneuve’s second pic in a planned three-film saga, which hits theaters November 3, 2023. Timothée Chalamet returns as Paul Atreides and Zendaya as Chani. (WATCH) the trailer here:
her scene in Dune Part 2 is so unnecessary, just Villeneuve playing in his ink blot firework sandbox, scandalizing the PG-13 audience, and assuming we’ll all just go along with it - & he’s right because it’s absolutely awesome, pure indulgent cinematic pleasure
“come…to…me…”
• trailer "i want them back” - cool, fierce, “hell yea she’s gonna get her people back”
• movie "i want them back" - tragic, pained, heart wrenching, 😭
#Dune2
director Denis Villeneuve says he gets "repeated queries" about the sandworm riding — calling it this "crazy Uber system" — with viewers asking how the Fremen dismounted the worms.
"I found a way. It was not dramatically necessary in ‘Dune: Part Two’ to see someone get
during one of Dune Part Two’s best moments, Stilgar warns Paul not to listen to the djinns. it’s a little funny, but he’s serious
moments later, Paul hears Jamis’s laugh. later in a vision, Jamis convinces Paul to take the Water of Life
is Jamis one of these “desert spirits?”
in Dune Part 1, Paul tells Liet Kynes “i know you loved a Fremen warrior and lost him in battle” and “i’ve seen your dream.” “as emperor i could make a paradise of Arrakis with a wave of my hand”
it’s a dry run for his speech to the War Council in Part 2, the seeds sown early
*3min into The Killer*
oh he’s gonna maintain this voiceover the whole time, huh?
*20min into The Killer*
stick to the plan. anticipate, don’t improvise. trust no one.
my entire twitter feed is endless dune 2 glazing and i absolutely love it. never in my life have i seen a film so universally loved and praised by the masses.
im really taken by Alison Halstead’s performance in Dune Part 2 as the Maker Keeper. it’s a small role, but she makes a big impression. you feel the weight of centuries of culture in her movements, words, and eyes
one of the very first things Jessica does in Dune Part 2 is bludgeon a guy to protect her children - always her goal as a mother
after drinking the Water of Life, she sees the best way to protect is thru Paul’s ascension. stoking the myth is how she protects as a Bene Gesserit
regardless of how you felt about Romulus, i think we can all agree: it’s so cool to be having an Alien moment in 2024
everyone’s watching the films, posting clips, talking about Xenomorphs, Ridley’s prequels getting a lot of love - it’s a great time
i wish we could get Dune: Battlefront so bad. Harkonnen soldiers get to float but Fremen can call a worm. maps like Deep Desert Eclipse, Harko Arena, Arrakeen Residency. big assets like ornithopters and harvesters. turn on retro mode and everything looks like Dune ‘84
Comparing Avatar 2 and Dune 2 is goofy, but only one movie had me so immersed i mistook people on screen for people getting up and cheering in my theater
this line actually found me different today. comes right after Paul says he’ll take Irulan’s hand. there’s all these wounded yet knowing glances from
Chani
does the Emperor see how calculating Paul is?
“But the heart was not meant to rule” does he kinda mean “You get it, right?”
there’s a lot of subtle communication here that’s even more readable after seeing Jessica and Mohaim’s silent conversation at the end of Dune Part 2
credit to my mom for pointing this moment out to me before even seeing Part 2
my dad, who wasn’t super hot on Part One, told me that Dune Part Two is one of two adaptions he considers superior to the book. he cried from the overwhelming nature of it all - just incredible cinema, and his first feature film in IMAX, so happy to share this experience with him
@trygraptor
This account is great. One of my favorite structural choices is how Irulan's appearances are markers for each step in Paul's journey.
Her Intro
Paul -> Muad'dib
She returns before Geidi Prime
Muad'dui -> Lisan al'Gaib
The emperor challenge
Then the climax, Paul becomes Emperor
i still like/respect people who don’t like the same movies i like but i don’t have to agree with their crits
one of the chief ones i’m seeing about Dune Part 2 is that it had “bland visuals” and im just like…that’s a heck of a take
