I’m proud to announce my first book ‘Weirdo’ being published by
@01FirstSecond
and illustrated by
@JesnCin
. In a world that doesn’t value black lives, I feel a responsibility to create stories that show just how spectacular and magical they are.
Yall aren’t talking about this enough. A small Nigerian group of creators with a few kickstarters and some webcomics under their belt somehow secured a PARTNERSHIP with the largest entertainment company in the world!? THATS more newsworthy than anything else in the announcement
Akira Toriyama got into manga hoping to make a quick buck in a competition. But when his first published story was voted the worst in a reader survey, he took that personally, and said he wouldn't stop until he wrote a hit. Over 10 stories later we got Dragon Ball. NEVER QUIT
I hate when people say characters of color are hard to relate to. Statistically there are more children’s books about cars and animals than about kids of color. If you can relate to Lightning McQueen you BETTER learn to relate to me or KA-CHOW your way into therapy.
A beloved mangaka died. And in the wake of his passing. His "fans" declared that they knew his work better than him, and decided to create the adaptation fans "deserve." That don't sound a lil disrespectful to ya'll?
Everybody talking about how one anime episode only takes $80k to produce is dramatically ignoring the terrible working conditions and borderline human rights violations that happen to enable that price point. This video has a lot of info.

I don’t think the Zoldycks are sending their butlers to universities. But if she manages to stay safe around Alluka she must be educated in *something.*
Do you wake up thinking about ice cream on Monday mornings or is it just us?

Toonami made their Black Lives Matter Statement last week. So here’s your reminder!!! It doesn’t matter how many subs you read if you can’t see the subtext in what you’re watching.
@DarrinCalvin
No! Which is why this is so perplexing. Has she secretly been reading them or did she just see Canary and fall in love? Either possibility is plausible.
It releases in 50 days and its the nerdy kid's instruction manual for self love and self confidence! I can't go back and help my younger self. But I can make sure no kid has to go through what he did.

I’m never gonna regret defending someone from racism. Especially cause racism is cosplay is a HUGE issue. But I hurt knowing that he felt he had to do this in order to get attention.
@SoulKingLives
Yes! Now that you mention it. This is the second time that this animation "studio" has decided that they personally know what's best for a series more than the creator of that series and raised money to make the "true adaptation." I don't even think they finished requiem
Black voice actors voicing black characters shouldn’t even be up for debate. You can’t use black characters and themes in your fantasy world without actual black people. Why is that so hard to understand?
Remember, black characters don't have to be covered in muscles and never lose to be strong. Vulnerability and compassion are what make characters compelling and relatable. THAT’s what we need more representation of.

! My name is Tony and I write a comic called The UnCommons about a West African Girl that predicts the end of the world. We update on webtoons 3 times a week
When Manga helped me find a sense of belonging, my teachers told me it wasn't "Real reading." Now I get to take manga to schools around the country and help kids unlock a love for literacy and themselves.
@Crunchyroll
thank you for believing in this initiative.
Someone tell the teacher who accused me of plagiarism because she didn't think I was smart enough to be a good writer, that I'm officially a published author. 👀
Its not that WE couldn't handle her. Her network couldn't handle her. Cutting episodes MID-PRODUCTION and forcing your creative team to pick up the pieces really damaged her narrative.
Looking for Black Manga Creators to support? I got you. I write a series called The UnCommons that you can find on Webtoon, and just got it’s own exhibit at the Gannt Center for African-American Arts and Culture.
I’m serious about this. Attribution and proper credit needs to be a part of digital citizenship competencies. As these platforms grow more influential, free booting content is just plagiarism by a different name. And that’s before we get into the racial aspects.
Remember what I said about influencer culture. People like this command the loyalty of millions of kids. And brands incentivize them with seven figure deals. If you keep giving people like this power don’t be surprised by what happens when their base is old enough to vote.
Tony Weaver was only 25 years old when he wrote Weirdo: The Nerdy Kid's Instruction Manual for Self Confidence, a book that channels his personal story to improve the mental health of millions of kids. 👀
IF you’re looking for more characters of color to relate to I’m going to list a few! I write a comic called The UnCommons that’s digitally on Webtoon and available in print at
PLZ RT: Due to nationwide school closures I’m making hundreds of comics, lesson plans, and activities free to students and teachers. My creative team and I are also volunteering to do virtual classroom visits for any teacher that will have us.

Kentaro Miura oversaw production of the 1997 Berserk adaptation. So when a "fan" sees that adaptation and goes. "Not good enough. We need a TRUE one." To me. That means. "Hey I saw the version of your work that you greenlit and worked on but I can cook something better."
@UkiyaSeed
What surprises me most is that Between Dr. Slump and Dragon Ball he STILL had people doubting him and shooting ideas down. The proof was RIGHT THERE and people still didn't' wanna let him cook.

! You can find our comic The UnCommons on Webtoon! Please talk to me about shonen.
Disney is not “making” anime. They’re buying licensing rights for anime titles. Just like Netflix didn’t “make” Beastars or Way of The Househusband. And Amazon didn’t “make” the new Evangelion movies. I feel like that’s an important distinction to make.

@jacquie_art
Nah she’s right. A 3D artist did fan art of Canary. And whoever sold this stole that art from the link she posted above, printed it out, and sold it to my aunt 😡

put our diversity series The UnCommons in the hands of people around the country. Give us a read on WEBTOON in the meantime.
