I know things are still very much in flux, but this truly has been death by a thousand cuts. Looking at WoW data, click loss is SMALL (-5 here, -10 there) per article. Position change is down 1 or 2 at most. But it's everywhere. And that's all it takes... 😡

@saintvienna I do this in reverse. I publish the supporting articles first. Those are typically easier, long-tail kw to rank for. Once I have a cluster of articles ranking well (and inter-linking), then I create the the bigger pillar and point all my now-ranking articles to it.

1. Broad queries. I would have a post targeting "Is X dangerous?" and I dropped for "What is X" or just "X" queries that I had previously had higher positions for. And I dropped to posts that specifically targeted those queries...6/10

Did I also get bumped out of position #2 down to position #3 for a Quora forum from 2014 a few times? Yep. And that has done some damage, too. But by in large, I've lost 1-2 positions TOPS for queries I wasn't targeting anyway, but... 4/10

2. Keyword variations. Let's say I had a post (I don't) called "Dumped Then Blocked: Blah Blah." I moved UP for "dumped then blocked" but lost for "dumping and blocking" to posts specifically targeting the -ing version in the title tag and URL....8/10

I don't like this "Top Stories" feature in the SERP. This is for "travel insurance." But only one of these three "top stories" is an actual news article. The other two are run-of-the-mill informational posts w/ affiliate links that happen to be published by news outlets.

@alex_buraks Interestingly I’ve read that when companies give unlimited PTO, employees end up taking less time off. In theory, I like the idea of being measured by your efficacy and results, rather than hours clocked but I dunno how this works out in practice.

This update is really strange. I have noticed that Reddit and Quora are showing up way more now, even for competitive queries. It used to be seeing Quora and Reddit in the top 3 meant you hit the kw jackpot. I think that's changing.

Did I get bumped by better sites? Sometimes it would be a Wiki level page, but mostly they are comparable sites with a combination of fresher content OR exact match titles. They do not appear high in the SERP for the exact match variation I still rank well for tho...9/10

In the past month or so, I've been re-prioritizing Pinterest as a traffic channel, and it has been such a boon to my RPMs 👀. For whatever reason, my Pinterest traffic brings in RPMs that are 64% higher than my organic search traffic.

I do around six posts per month, making about 25% of my salary, all slowly trending upwards. And that’s okay! I have a family that needs me too.

I've been attempting to use ChatGPT for generating 📌 Pinterest pin descriptions at scale, and honestly, have not loved the outputs. 🔥🗑️ No amount of prompt engineering was giving me something I liked, and at that point, I could've just written them myself, but... 1/4
