I never received an extramural grant as a student/postdoc- reviewers couldn’t 👀 past early grades. It was good grant practice & built resilience. Still did the science & became PI of a lab that received $3M in extramural grant funding w/in a couple yrs.

Every night I read to my 3 yr old books that have strong black lead characters (superhero’s, doctors, scientists, leaders). Tonight, although 💔😪, was no different, to make sure he will be able to view himself this way despite how others may view him one day.

@FutureDrDukes
I am so sorry. And I am angry with you. My husband would get asked to show ID when he would come to visit me on campus for lunch. It was absolutely infuriating, EACH and EVERY single time.
-Got a PhD in Neuroscience
-Realized I needed to learn how to write grants, network, give talks...
-Became a PI and started a lab
-Realized I needed to learn how to interview, hire, manage, mentor, handle budgets...
-Got married and had a baby
-Realized I knew nothing.

Thrilled to share that I will be starting my lab at Boston University in January 2024, at the intersection of cognitive neuroscience, neurotechnologies, and data analytics. We will use invasive electrophysiology and non-invasive neuroimaging to study human cognition & behavior 🧠

Congratulations Peter! 🎉🥳👏
What an awesome paper Peter, Avi et al!
Thank you ☺️. No one could tell but my 3 yr old walked in during the talk & put a muffin on my desk cuz he thought I’d be hungry 😂 🥰 gotta love

Yes, engineers w/ no knowledge of the 🧠 SHOULD be welcomed into the neurotech field. Reaching
#neurallink
goals, however, will require close collaboration b/t neuro, engineering, & medicine. This is where the magic happens. Either
#neuralink
knows this already or will eventually
A prior track record of exceptional achievement in engineering *is* required, but *no* prior experience working on the brain or human physiology is required. We will teach you what’s known about the brain, which is not much tbh.
Honored to have contributed to this paper led by

1 week left. To those of you thinking:
-I’m not ready

-I’m not _ enough (smart, capable, accomplished)
-1 week isn’t enough time
Don’t give in to

Another fantastic wk n lab-feel’n inspired. Note 2 future PIs: no matter what you’ve seen/heard, a 💪 lab is not created by dominating others/ being smartest person in room. When folks feel confident 2 b themselves, create, innovate & contribute new ideas- amazing things happen.
Asked my 3 yr old to carry his 💦 bottle.
Him: “No, it’s too heavy for my hands”.
Me: “If you carry it to the 🚘 we can go to the kid’s museum”
He proceeds to walk SLOWLY inch-by-inch w/ it clutched b/t his legs the ENTIRE way there & that pretty much sums up my day 🤦🏻♀️
