S&C coaches l came up w/ this drill back in 09 after l herniated my back. Ipsilateral movement! Inspired by Dick Hartzell. I can hit the QL w/out going through my limbs, a winner. I called them Buttwalks! I also came up with a Backcrawl. Both have been around in some form 4 yrs.

This is Lowerback Protocol l put together in 2009 after l herniated L4-L5 doing deficit deads. Dick Hartzell showed me how to do banded inversions. Dr. Lee & l came up with these drills specifically for QL & psoas! 15yrs & it’s still catching on. You learn to fix yourself Bo!

Back Crawls post ‘ButtWalks!’ Works all the muscles up and down the spine. This is an Ipsilateral movement. Pin one side lift & gain real estate with other-repeat. Doing both daily since focusing on other areas.

Filmed some squat ques with Aaron @SquatUniversity few years back! This particular que is driving into the bar out of the hole during squat. Avoid being a hips first guy. When the bar weight is big, hips up first will get you bulldogged (head down and dump position)

Hips! Strength Coaches this is the Static Band Holds for linemen! Three rounds at one minute. Rest 30-60 seconds in between sets. These are the glue that hold the big parts together.

Coaches consider encouraging your high school linemen not to weigh 300 plus pounds. Besides outliers, no high school linemen needs to be much over 250lbs. If they are good enough to play college football, they will gain proper weight between 19-22years old. Facts!

As soon as l could raise my leg being back from the Fix-it shop, l started doing BW Buttwalks. Nothing hits the flutes like this drill. Not even barbell humping. (Sorry bro’s!😎) Added a band for better tracking.

Weighted Spanish Squats! Strength coaches use a nylon or canvas strap. Do not replace with bands. Groney taught me this one. Strap weighted is whole new realm. Keeping knee pliable. I spy Capt. Shameless!👀

The Back Crawl. I started doing these in 2009 to help with my back pain. Worked great. An Ipsilateral movement where one side of body plants while the other side lifts and gains ground. Tracking. Works all the muscles up and down the spine. 30 sec a set.

Years ago l came up with this for my shoulders. Decades of wrecking them with heavy straight bar squats lead to problems. The compression of the bands combined w/ ‘goal post’ raises works well on reclaiming movement.

Turned 58 today. Benched 400lbs. Went for 420 but not today!🤪 That is 40 years in a row l have benched 400 or more. I get corrected by my strength coach critics all the time and they aren’t even 40 years old.🤣🤣💪🏾💪🏾

Strength Coaches have your linemen compress their ankles routinely prior to practice & games. Three times a week 5-7 minutes. It is a huge difference. This was a brain child of the legend Dick Hartzell. I listened. Increased performance??? Sign me up.

This is a Trunk Rotational drill l picked up from Pavel over two decades ago. This was Feb 2 yrs ago. I quit doing them after l herniated L4-L5 in ‘09. What is old is new again. I forgot a lot of drills l use to do for whatever reason. Discovering them again is fun.

Strength coaches l cannot stress the importance of High School linemen being too heavy too young. They do not need to weigh 300lbs. College is the place to really develop as they acclimate to gaining size slowly, properly between 18-22years old.

Louie gloating. It was 2001, l just got 905 on 2nd squat attempt. I upped the aggregate to 930lbs to beat Lou’s record of 925 the year before. I sent two girls to him to tell him that. I went out there with good intentions. But failed. Lou took this pic to capture my defeat. 🤣

Dual distraction for your back. You do nothing but relax. 10minutes. Roller is 124lbs and band is the monster band hooked at about 61/2 ft. Game changer for tight backs. Bulldog may or may not be included.❤️

High School age Offensive & Defensive linemen..you don’t need to weigh 300+ pounds. Diminishes work capacity & you become prone to needless injuries. When you get to college football, that’s the time to peak your development over 4 yrs. Our HS linemen are too fat too young!

High School S&C coaches no is the time to help your fat 15-17 yr old 300lb linemen to lose body fat! Get them leaner so their work capacity can increase. This will lead to a decrease in needless injuries being to fat too young. Bring in nutrition help if you have to.

Strength Coaches- Body Tempering is the strength preparation part of training. It was stumbled on by us in June 2014! It was immediately met with opposition (mostly by experts) However, it was also met equally w/ enthusiasm to improve the body for performance. It’s growing.💪🏾💪🏾

Strength Coaches l have been doing this for nearly a decade. When l had my knee diagnosed the surgeon said he can’t understand why my hips are still healthy? This is why. Static hip distraction/joint gapping. This roller is 172lbs. What do you think is happening here?

High School S&C Coaches doesn’t it suck when you see a young man head off to his D1 school. He left strong. But comes back weaker by Christmas. “His strength coach is famous. Top 20!” Yeah that’s great but the kid is weaker! I never ever came home weaker bro! And l was lowly D2.

Strength Coaches-besides the few outliers, there is no reason high school linemen should weigh over 250lbs! Lighter linemen are faster. Better work ethic. Less needless injuries that come from lugging 50pounds of extra fat! If they can play, they will develop in college.

Why are my hips healthy? This is just one of the reasons. Joint gapping (not my term but some influencers) 172lb roller nestled in the crease of my hip. I have performed this 4 times a week for last decade. Hips feel great. My experience trumps your doubts now.

Body Tempering post heavy training! This is a loadable BT device. We packed it w/ 10lb plates ea side. Total weight is 270! Levi is a fireman for Charlotte Fire Department (CFD) weighs 290. We squat heavy on Tues’s. Followed by this. Cuts recovery time in half.

Cardio isn’t my favorite until it has to be. Being the big strong man was fun when it was working. Forced compliance (time/wear&tear) helps you prioritize. Fix-it shop is two weeks away today. No more gimping! No more pain. Just progress.

2 wks ago l started light sleds again post squats. Speedy, my training partner said “let’s do sled drags” I told him l can’t. He sniffed the air saying, “Smells like bitch in here!” 🤣 My knee doesn’t work so l leg press it into the ground. Great gimmick to pull it off.

Celebrating training for 45yrs this summer & l AM only 58. Started at 13 in the summer of 78. Front porch of farmhouse with concrete filled plastic weight set from Montgomery Wards. Summer of 79 my dad took me to York Barbell and l purchased the 315lb set of iron plates.

This is the kind of intensity it takes to just consider breaking a squat record. I was 45yrs old. Two months later l hit 1255 in my first meet on the road to 3000. It was turned down by the judges. 4mths later l would try again. *This was after all my working sets!

August 2020 l came up w/ ‘Saddle Up’ because of a lowerback flare up. I was in pain. I could not hang upside down. I couldn’t put my feet on floor to bench. Felt like lightning jolts shooting in lower back when l tried. l hooked this contraption up. Made up drills to hit area.

In my ‘Saddle Up’ series here is the first movement- Mule Kicks! Saddle up is an alternative way to lowerback resilience. There are 5 drills total, this is only one. Plus you don’t need to buy anything. Rings & a belt squat belt. Originated in 2020 by me to recover from pain.

Ten years ago Body Tempering was born. It kind of found us. Irony- we had a 130lb cylinder drop cut piece of steel for 16 yrs in our gym.Used for wheelbarrow handle weight & to hold as we did back raises. In 2014 l told my buddy Levi, “let’s roll our abs w/ this X-wife!” Success

Nine years ago is when Body Tempering first came out. We had almost every technique we do today worked out in a few months. It is not widely accepted yet. But, Body Tempering is the best strength innovation of the decade. Whether you like me or not, doesn’t matter. It works.

The old stretch pole. Contours around neck. Now that l can fit it on my shoulders again, trunk is getting more options. Transitioning from SHW to lean takes a few yrs. One thing l will focus on is lots of daily trunk work. Just like l did late 90’s.

14 year NFL veteran from Chicago Bears, Roberto Garza (retired), is one of the strongest out there. I don’t know many top powerlifters that can do this. Getting stronger post playing career is a great option. What else are you going to do? 😃💪🏾

7 months Food Sober! I dropped- A wheel + A quarter + A dime! Far from done. Going back to the weight l worked so hard to be after Arena football. I simply had enough of my self induced prison.

Weighted Spanish Squats! 55lb roller on top of strap like the Strength Coach at Eastern Washington University has his Offensive linemen doing. Strong, healthy knees are a great resource for athletes.
