Today what I want to add regarding Greek culture being appropriated time and again by imperialist rhetoric is this: Greece is not just Ancient Greece. Greece is so much more. It's not just Mykonos and nightlife. So much history cannot be packed in retellings only.

Tears of both joy and sadness!!! I wrote THE FINAL CHAPTER of my book that I have been writing for a year now & a book I fully rewrote. Today I finished the climax chapter that's so personal and emotional for me and my heroine but we both made it. First book I've ever completed.

However, why not let more Greeks tell stories about their own culture and identity so they can rewrite the Westernized tradition of Ancient Greece in media? The market still doesn't push these stories and it would be a lie to claim otherwise. 4/4

My concerns for today: A thing that I'm worried about is that my stories have a different Gothic-ness than the Anglo-American ones--the Greek Gothic is much more focused on nature as a setting/religion gone wrong/folklore traditions that the market is still not so much aware of.

It's safe to say that whenever I'm reading slush, I get so optimistic. Getting to know other genres, genres I wouldn't read or write myself, and getting to see so much talent out there is just...magnificent. An eye-opener. Human writing (& art) is what keeps our world going.

Can't really believe this but I finally wrote the middle of a Greek gore story about a dad who eats flesh & is tied in bed by his daughter & wife because they fear they'll get eaten. Finally figured out the plot twist that will give this story a punch in the gut ending. 👁️👄👁️

If (non)Greeks are interested in writing about Greece, a good idea would be to understand that there are many, way many Greek eras worth talking about. What about the Byzantine Empire? Or folklore that merged Christianity and paganism and was highly developed in rural Greece? 2/4

I made a six-hour road trip at night in the hopes of saying goodbye to my Grandpa. I made it, he squeezed my hand in response while I was sitting by his side. Whatever happens now, at least my only wish was met. Thank you all for your warm words in my previous post. 🫂

Reading Greek folklore has been a game-changer. The ways Christianity, paganism & warfare have influenced us & the expansion of Ancient Greek heritage to fit modern traditions show us that Greece is not just a land of ancient ruins & epics. Politis's work proves that.

Ok guys, here's the final product, icing is just yogurt, honey and lemon juice so that's why it's so thin but I don't really mind, it's just so SOFT and tasty and enough lemony omg !!!!! It's a berry lemon protein cake that I'm so proud of 😭 and it has no sugar, butter or oil

And yes, here's another reason I wrote this piece. It's sort of unknown to non-Greeks how the Occupation years (Greek Katochi 1941-44) affected our grandparents both in behavior and food manners. My grandma had to gather nettles and potherbs from nearby cliffs to make food.

Can we normalize going to online shopping sites and adding multiple things in our baskets only to delete many until we can afford them and then closing the tab because we understand how consumerism works but we window shopped and we feel better with ourselves
