Help us keep the Institute going. As active members of the Institute of Postcolonial Studies, we have spent years at the Institute cultivating community, growing mutually and bringing life to a space that invited us to engage with questions of the postcolonial.

Read this feature in NIT- In an email to members on November 20, they said a proposal was being put forward to seek the appointment of four Aboriginal scholar-activists: Prof Gary Foley, A/Prof Crystal McKinnon, Dr Evelyn Araluen, and Natalie Ironfield.

As a member of the IPCS I received an email (see below) that described our efforts to involve indigenous & non-white members in disturbing language — “aggression” , “hostility”, “trenchant”. This is not only inaccurate, misleading but racist in its description.

Sign - "For the past five years, there has only been a single Aboriginal director on the IPCS Board, who resigned earlier this year, and two People of Colour (POC) who have also resigned. This is not a condemnation of individual directors.

When the building was closed after the Palestine events we were shocked. We were also upset by the ending of all our member led initiatives that had keen participation. We value IPCS and want the project to remain a space for us to learn and contribute. #saveipcs #transformipcs

This campaign has been building for many months as IPCS members and affiliates have been trying to transform the largely white and elite governance structure of an institution for the analysis of colonised peoples and cultures that was for a brief window something so much better

We believe that a democratically elected Board that includes Aboriginal and POC directors is required to bring about an IPCS that is: accountable to its membership and the communities that are actively interrogating and resisting colonialism as a matter of survival;

Postcolonial Studies owes much to Palestinian intellectualism. These events were held at IPCS as it was a relevant place to host Palestinian writers who were guests on this continent at the invitation of Adelaide Writers Festival. Important work.

However, an organisation committed to interrogating colonial relations must embody a diverse governance structure, which includes directors of the Board with a lived experience of colonisation.

The website of IPCS features Darby as its founder, and the building's reading/library room is named after him: The Phillip Darby room. Surely a board of this Institute would respect the wishes of its founder and its over 200 paid members to keep the project alive.
