On gun background checks - the first one should be like that for top secret security clearance - interviews of neighbors, teachers, principal, employers, etc. Then renewed every several years with a lower effort check for continued ownership or new purchase.

@piper4missouri Here in Japan, I’ve never had to wait - generally same day unless my doctor is splitting their time between two hospitals, and even then if necessary I’ll use a different doctor at my hospital. Scans, lab work, dentistry, etc. - never a wait.
