christina doing river deep/mountain high which, although credited to ike & tina, is in reality and spirituality the first tina solo song. ike demanded credit even though he wasn’t involved
sorrry for the delay. internet service in here is bad but i’m on the wifi! taylor swift opened the ceremony with a sultry “will you love me tomorrow?” and after a long package, now she’s giving the speech
artists that debuted in 1997 are now eligible for the rock hall. our panel tries to guess some of them “name that tune” style. most fun episode of the year because you can PLAY ALONG AT HOME!

i know we've been doing this a long time but it's still astounding the degree to which the hall inspires takes like these. passionate hatred from people who would never once consider that their personal favorites aren't also objectively the most deserving
THE 2023 ROCK HALL BALLOT IS OUT!!!
but do yourself a favor and don’t just read it from some boring list… let us reveal them to you by listening to our announcement episode NOW!

Check it out:
seymour stein was not just important to the hall but also very important to us & our show. can’t believe we got to talk to him, let alone twice. what a life & career. our love & thoughts to his family
not to get too depressing here, but since we’ve been loudly advocating for kool & the gang’s induction, three key members have died. can we please induct them already??
“Tina Turner, the ‘Queen of Rock’n Roll’ has died peacefully today at the age of 83 after a long illness in her home in Küsnacht,” her family said in a statement.
“With her, the world loses a music legend and a role model.”

Typical
@rockhall
ballot is about 15 names. Would be beyond easy to put together an *incredible* ballot for next year with all black artists. Also easy to have half of them be women! Here's 42 suggestions just off the top of the head.
RT if you agree.

We are devastated to pass on the news of the passing of Henry Fambrough, the last original member of the Spinners, at age 85. One of our all-time favorites!
We talk a lot about the Rolling Stones 500 Greatest Albums list on the podcast. First published in 2003, then slightly updated in 2012, it was just given a DRAMATIC overhaul for 2020. We want to break some things down...
154 albums that were not on either previous iteration:
whoops started to read some of the “opinions” on here about dolly rejecting her rock hall nomination and my brain started bleeding
we will devote an entire episode to this subject this week, rest assured.
On the podcast, we talk a lot about how great the Rock Hall's "packages" are that they play at the induction ceremonies to get you hyped for the artists. These are often hard to find. We're gonna share some with you in this thread 'cause we're nice!
The big day is tomorrow! Bright and early 8am ET / 5am PT, it’s the announcement of the Rock Hall Class of 2021! As always, try and stay away from the news and instead listen to US reveal the inductees.
In the meantime, who from our draft is gonna walk away the winner??
robert downey jr (inducted duran duran in 2022) now joins this list of rock hall inductors who have an oscar for acting:
tom hanks (dave clark five, 2008)
charlize theron (depeche mode, 2020)
laura dern (sheryl crow, 2023)
he is the first to win the oscar AFTER induction
OUR INDUCTEE ANNOUNCEMENT EPISODE IS OUT!

EXCLUSIVE! we got a leak on who’s getting into the rock hall via the side categories this year:
chingy
bobby “boris” pickett
taco
florence foster jenkins
jim belushi
apl de ap (solo)
the old lady who raps in the wedding singer
a different woman who calls herself “rappin granny”
RIP to drummer Dick Richards, who passed away yesterday at 95. He should have been inducted with Bill Haley in 1987, but fortunately lived to see his eventual induction as a Comet in 2012. His induction reaction is the kinda shit we like to see.
what a fun day yesterday! thanks to everyone who listened to our ballot reveal episode— we had our single best day of the podcast ever. if you still haven’t listened, here you go:

RIP to Ronnie Spector, inducted in 2007 with The Ronettes. The story goes that Phil Spector lobbied to keep them off the ballot for years, but eventually they prevailed (as soon as he was off the nominating commitee, go figure)
For the record, here are Joe’s predictions for the 2020 class:
Pat Benatar
The Doobie Brothers
T. Rex
Notorious B.I.G.
Whitney Houston
If there are 6 - Soundgarden
7? Depeche Mode
Kristen would love to also make predictions but has already forgotten who’s on the ballot
we had a great time talking to
