Shabegh made what is probably Hoboken’s first ever Sikh snowman! It took a while for him to tie a “patka” (a smaller turban used by Sikh children) on him but he got it done in style. Sure, I’m biased, but my son is the coolest 8 year old that I know.
We've adopted the mentality that Vision Zero improvements don't need to be complex to be effective. These flexible bollards on 8th St deter cars from illegally parking at the crosswalk, maintaining sight lines that help drivers see🚶🏼♀️crossing the street & cars at the intersection.
Hoboken, I am proud, humbled and honored to be your Mayor. Thank you to
@CoryBooker
for swearing me in today. I look forward to getting to work on behalf of our residents!
Today marks 7 years since our last traffic fatality in Hoboken, 1 of the only US cities to reach this milestone. Although we’ve had success creating safer streets, we’ll continue to aggressively implement Vision Zero in all major infrastructure projects.
It’s not a complicated concept.
More lanes = more cars, which = more traffic.
More traffic = more harmful emissions.
More harmful emissions = more harm to our children and communities.
I stand firmly against the wasteful $10.7 billion Turnpike widening project.
The
#FarmersProtest
in India is a personal issue to me, my family and so many Indian Americans. I stand with the farmers, many of them Sikhs, demonstrating for months to protect their rights in one of the largest mass protests in our history.
This morning I signed an Executive Order and introduced a civil rights measure making the
@CityofHoboken
the 1st municipality in State of NJ to require that all single occupancy bathrooms be
#genderneutral
. This is a great step forward for the LGBTQ+ community and our great city.
Today, as my first official act, I signed an Executive Order designating Hoboken a Fair & Welcoming City. This ensures the law shall be equal irrespective of immigration status, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or any means of identification.
My name is Ravi Bhalla and I am running for Congress against Robert Menendez Jr. in the Democratic primary.
Watch my launch video to learn why this Jersey kid thinks all the Jersey kids out there deserve to have faith in our leaders again:
Now completed: a protected bike lane along Marin Boulevard connecting Hoboken to Jersey City. This is the latest Vision Zero improvement from both cities that will better protect bicycle riders and further reduce traffic injuries.
Received calls about potholes so decided to get out of the office and learn how to fix them myself. Thank you to the workers from
@CityofHoboken
and
@HudCoTweet
for getting to work on the potholes around town. All in a day’s work!

Over 1,000 people who attended Hoboken’s demonstration for racial justice were tested for COVID-19. None tested positive. The large majority wore face masks.
It isn’t a coincidence - face masks prevent the spread of COVID. Wearing one will help save lives.
Dr. Fauci: “A risk for you is not just isolated to you, because if you get infected you are part -- innocently or inadvertently -- of propagating the dynamic process of a pandemic”
Help save lives - wear a mask.
Fauci makes a plea to all Americans. If you get it, even inadvertently, you are part of process of infection that could badly hurt or kill someone’s grandparent or a kid with leukemia. It’s not just about you. “We can either be part of the solution or part of the problem.”
It was an honor to meet with
@SecretaryPete
to share some of Hoboken’s Vision Zero initiatives and our success in creating safer streets. We are grateful to our partners at the
@USDOT
for their support and look forward to a continued partnership in the years ahead.
Wasting $10.7 billion of taxpayer dollars on foolhardy highway expansions is the definition of poor public policy.
I strongly oppose the misguided Turnpike widening and would allocate this funding for our mass transit infrastructure.

Can’t say it enough to our medical professionals and first responders - thank you. We’re grateful for everything you do to keep us safe.

I strongly oppose the $10.7 billion Turnpike widening boondoggle, which will produce more traffic, emissions and harm to Jersey City, Bayonne and Hudson County.
The debates have made it clear that Rob Menendez supports this senseless highway expansion.
Our Vision Zero strategies:
✅ Preventing illegal parking at intersections
✅ Curb extensions & daylighting
✅ Lowering speed limit to 20MPH
✅ Traffic redesigns based on data
✅ Upgrading crosswalks during repaving
We’re creating safer streets in Hoboken, block by block to
In 2023, over 400 delineators were added at intersections, covering 31% of intersections citywide. Also known as daylighting, it is a simple and cost effective way through Vision Zero we have made our streets safer by preventing illegal parking too close to crosswalks, which

NJ Transit is stranding riders on a daily basis, yet the State is wasting $31 million to eminent domain property of a former school to widen highways and create more traffic - money that could be used to invest in mass transit. Not to mention the $11 billion overall price tag of
While tonight wasn’t the outcome we desired, I’m tremendously proud of the campaign we ran. Democracy won, and the people of our District - for the first time in years - had a true choice at the ballot box.

We are continuing to do everything possible to advance social distancing. To protect health & safety of residents, our OEM has directed all bars & restaurants, w/ & w/o a liquor license, to allow for delivery & takeout of food only. OEM is also implementing a curfew from 10pm-5am
Major news: Hoboken has acquired the Union Dry Dock property! This historic day has eluded Hoboken for decades & is finally here. We can now connect the remaining piece of our treasured waterfront & plan for a public park that will benefit generations of Hoboken residents.
It takes courage to know when it’s time to suspend a campaign. I am grateful that Tammy Murphy did so.
Most of all I am thrilled for my friend
@AndyKimNJ
. The insiders counted you out, the grassroots brought you in. It’s time now to unite behind our presumptive nominee.
And I
A key difference between Rob Menendez and me: I strongly oppose the $10.7B Turnpike widening boondoggle that will substantially harm Bayonne, Jersey City & Hudson County with more traffic and emissions.
We can and should invest in bridges in need of upgrades, like the NJTP
New Jersey Gov.

The Mayor of Hoboken, NJ (

He also announced a month of pride celebrations including drag events for kids.
He's doing all this using your tax dollars
Hoboken, NJ has been conquered by the child m*tiIat*on cult.
We’ve made major investments in pedestrian safety & the results speak for themselves: 0 traffic related fatalities in 4 years. Hoboken is a national model for a Vision Zero plan that works & we will continue to invest in safe streets in the years to come.
I join elected officials from across the United States in calling on Prime Minister Modi's administration to respect the fundamental right to peaceful protest in a democracy.

Ravi leaves Hoboken regularly to raise money for his doomed campaign but can’t be bothered to leave City Hall to do a political interview. Tells you everything you need to know about his priorities.

Hoboken, we observed many people out yesterday without face masks like it was any other day. By not wearing one, you could be jeopardizing the health and safety of your neighbors. Don’t just take it from me - our doctors, nurses and first responders all ask you to wear one also.
We recently landscaped our rain gardens and bioswales, many of which also serve as Vision Zero curb extensions. These are a triple benefit:
💦 Withhold rainwater to mitigate flooding
🚶🏽Shorten crossing distance for pedestrians
🌻 Beautify our public spaces
Thank you to Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara in Glen Rock, NJ for honoring my family and I this morning.
I really enjoyed talking to the Khalsa School kids in their classes about taking pride in their identity as Sikhs and encouraging them to pursue their dreams!

The $10.7 billion Turnpike widening = more traffic and harm to our environment.
I strongly oppose it and would prioritize funding for NJ Transit.
Rob Menendez supports it and has stayed silent on the 30% NJ Transit fare hikes.
Expand mass transit, not highways.
BREAKING: NYC restaurants can only serve takeout and delivery options starting Tuesday, Mayor Bill de Blasio orders. Bars that do not serve food must close.
Some good news - we are now 10 days without a fatality due to COVID-19 among our Hoboken senior population. I’m thankful to all of the volunteers, family members, neighbors, and more who have helped keep our elderly residents safe indoors and provided them comfort.

This is what Vision Zero is all about. We are designing our streets knowing that drivers and pedestrians will inevitably make mistakes. And when that mistake happens, and a child or senior does get struck by a vehicle - our street designs with any combination of daylighting, curb
Instead of blaming the driver who "didn't see them" or the pedestrian who "darted out," Hoboken is building fail-safes -- assuming that people will be imperfect and giving them the resource of more visibility, so that a mistake is less likely a deadly event.
Do I want to cover my face? No. Do I look a bit silly? Yes. Do I want to help my community & medical professionals, who are sacrificing their own safety for us? ABSOLUTELY. Hob, please use face cover (ie bandanas) when in essential businesses including supermarkets and pharmacies

MAJOR NEWS: Senator Cory Booker is visiting Hoboken this weekend! We are honored that Senator Booker has chosen Hoboken to address residents about the importance of this election and re-electing Senator Bob Menendez for our City, State & Country.
Hope to see you there!
If you’re ordering delivery or takeout from a local Hoboken businesses, a quick and easy way to give the business a few extra dollars is to order directly by calling the business, as opposed to mobile applications which charge a service fee.
Now completed - the new parklet at Anthony David's! Thanks to the ability to expand into the street with our business recovery plan, 24 additional seats are available for socially distanced outdoor dining, starting this Monday.
This is unequivocally not the policy in Hoboken. Asymptomatic spread is very real and remains a threat. If you’ve been exposed to anyone with COVID-19, our guidance in Hoboken remains the same whether you have symptoms or not - please get tested. It may end up saving lives.
The CDC, changing its Covid-19 testing guidelines, no longer recommends testing for most people without symptoms, even if they've been in close contact with someone known to have the virus. Many doctors are puzzled by the agency's change.
Climate resiliency and Vision Zero often go hand in hand. At our new ResilienCity Park, we installed 11 rain garden curb extensions like this one, reducing the time pedestrians are in the street. The 19 total rain gardens in the park also retain 185,000+ gallons of rainwater to

Great evening out with my family for dinner at Leo’s Grandevous new outdoor cafe! Thanks to Grace, Nick and all of the staff for making it a socially distant and enjoyable experience for everyone.
Due to the tireless advocacy of so many, the county line is finally gone. It’s why I submitted an amicus brief in support of the lawsuit.
Now, New Jersey will get what 49 other states have: free and fair elections.
A great day for democracy.
Shabegh had a special day today for his 9th birthday! I’m so proud of how he’s grown and thrived in so many ways over the last year. Time flies by as I remember when we were celebrating his first few birthdays! Lots of love to my son.
Yesterday at the demonstration for racial justice I invoked the opening of the Sikh national anthem:

This is a prayer to our Creator to give us the strength to never be afraid to do the right thing, or to do what is right
Incredible recognition for Hoboken today by

I oppose the $10.7B Turnpike widening. Menendez supports it.
I oppose 30% NJ Transit fare hikes. Menendez is silent.

I opposed the undemocratic county line. Rob supported it.
