I know a solo developer who worked on his game for 2 years. He put his heart and soul into it.
Game launched on Steam couple of weeks ago. And as of now, it's got ONE review.
It's scary knowing this can happen to me. It's not easy being a

So Steam hasn't approved my game because apparently the game crashes if controller is disconnected mid-game. Game works fine under normal circumstances. Why am I responsible if it crashes when players do unusual things like unplugging controller mid-game?

I've sent another build for review. In that version, unplugging the controller brings up the pause menu. It works fine on my system, but it all depends on how it performs on the systems used by the Steam people.🤷♂️
To be honest, I'm getting tired of this. Not too many wishlists. Not much engagement on twitter. Not too many views on youtube. And now, I'm supposed to ensure my game doesn't crash when the controller is yanked out mid-game.
If you're NEW to indie dev, don't make "small games". Have a clear vision and make a proper "big" game. Start small, work incrementally and think LONG TERM. Add one thing at a time. You'll keep learning and also have a goal to stay focused on.

The Steam testers said it crashed when they unplugged a wired controller. I don't think a wireless controller running out of batteries would have the same effect.
I've been postponing the release of my game 'Citadel Stormer 2' for a year. But now I've decided I will release it in the first quarter of 2024.

Thanks! Quite a few people have mentioned 'Citadel Stormer 2' reminds them of the old Duke Nukem platformers. Which is cool because the old Apogee games were huge influence on me. And funny that you mention Crystal Caves, because I'm playing the HD remaster now.

I think when people say "make a game you can finish", they're talking about a well presented game that people would want to play. The point is that it's better to make a game (and learn from it) than to try making the "dream game", get nowhere with it, burn out and give up.

What makes it really, really hard is not knowing how everything will pan out in the end. I can't imagine the heartbreak a game developer might feel when they see that YEARS of effort have gone down the drain. All they wanted was to share their game with the world.
