An increasing number of dry lightning strikes are being detected in the state's north this afternoon. These strikes can start fires in grass and remote bushland, and smoulder for days. We ask landholders to keep an eye out and report any unattended fires to Triple Zero (000).
Lingering smoke from hazard reduction burns conducted across Sydney's north yesterday is expected to clear across today. Crews will be back on scene in Killarney Heights, Roseville Chase and the Lane Cove National Park to mop up and patrol the firegrounds.
Forecast conditions will see elevated fire danger for areas in the north west of the state until Friday. Thunderstorms with dry lightning are also forecast for the north east tomorrow. Know your fire risk. Report any new fires to Triple Zero (000) immediately.

The 'Marie Bashir' has arrived home! After months assisting firefighters in the USA, our LAT touched down at RAAF Base Richmond this afternoon. Throughout her deployment she performed 289 drops, across 70 different fires, delivering more than 3.5 million litres of retardant.
