@hannahtindle This assumes writers published by the Manhattan media machine in the 90s were actually "the best," and not members of a few well-connected cliques. Yes, things change, and writers today WILL need to stand out, in new ways. That's the challenge.

@clairlemon It's simply bad policy to accuse someone of something without evidence. Already too much of that going on. And sorry, having very long nails-- a style in some circles in America-- is not evidence of steroids. Or: you're reaching.

@DavidSacks "Neutrality" for Ukraine as far as Putin was concerned meant absorption back into the Russian empire. This is the theme of his major speeches. You're living proof that a person can know a lot about technology, but not much else.

@MailOnline Maybe it's time to stop the passive-aggressive messages and return to being blunt! (When I started in the workworld, my bosses were very blunt. Like: "If you don't get your ass moving faster, you're fired!") Seemed to work.🙂

Anyone who has read Victor Hugo's great, great novel, Notre-Dame de Paris (aka Hunchback of Notre Dame) with its descriptions of how such buildings ARE literature & contain so much history has to be heartbroken at what's happening this moment. #fire

@tsarnick No, she's wrong. Brains will atrophy, creativity will become stunted. Artists need to be challenged. The greatest artists-- Beethoven, Dostoevsky, Van Gogh-- were the most challenged. It'd be like having a robot do your exercise for you.

Just thinking: antisemitism, like racism, is ridiculous esp in USA. Jewish people have been essential contributors to American culture, to everything we all take for granted. From a huge role in pop (and classical) music, to the very creation of Hollywood. To a host of writers.

@oldbooksguy Some of these make sense-- 8, 9, 10-- but the Medici Effect only works in the real world, person to person: Lost Generation, the Beats, San Fran music scene circa 1967, etc. We've had 25 years of the Internet and the cultural effect has been blah.
