's first African American female brigade commander, MIDN 1/C Sydney Barber, of Lake Forest, Ill.
Sad news this week for Navy fans-- Retired Navy mascot Bill 33 has moved on to greener pastures. He is survived by Bill 34 (also retired) and current mascots Bill 36 and Bill 37, all Angora goats.

was easily recognized, as he was the only Navy goat with blue eyes.
Congratulations to USNA Class of 2017 grad, Lt.j.g. Madeline Swegle, who will become the first known African American female Navy jet pilot when she receives her Wings of Gold in Kingsville, Texas later this month!

The similarities of the Nike/UNDEFEATED logo released this week and the USNA Crest are undeniable and we believe their logo is clearly an infringement under trademark law. USNA is working with Navy leadership to order Nike/UNDEFEATED to cease and desist their use of the logo.

MIDN 3/C Duke Carrillo was remembered by his shipmates at last night's special performance of TAPS in T-court. TAPS was performed by MIDN 3/C Joey Gibbs.
Today, the Brigade of Midshipmen Flag was lowered to half-mast in honor of 3/C Carrillo.
At 8:46am today, the first midshipman running group set out with the American Flag.
The flag will remain in constant motion around the perimeter of the Yard for 24 hours, concluding in T-Court with a ceremony honoring those who lost their lives on

Today, the midshipmen placed 2,977 small US flags along Stribling Walk to honor each American who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001. Of these flags, 14 larger ones were placed to honor our Naval Academy alumni who died that day.
USNA was deeply saddened to learn of the accident at USMA yesterday that took the life of one cadet and injured others. This accident is a solemn reminder that there is inherent risk in all we do in our Nation's military. Our thoughts are with USMA during this very difficult time

Today was the first Plebe Summer Physical Education Program (PEP).
PEP is a comprehensive physical training program that provides the plebes with the tools to begin their four years of enhanced physical fitness.

The Naval Academy is deeply saddened to confirm that a midshipman died last night after being found unresponsive in Bancroft Hall. The cause of death is being investigated; foul play is not suspected.
