Every day I find out someone likes this album I’m always really surprised
diy skapunk rock opera about a fake anime character (based on a purposeful misinterpretation of a real franchise) representing drugs and gender etc
Does not scream “respectable thing ppl like” but they do
So I figured out what The Precure Album is about.
Val is a trans woman. Duh.
But the real scoop is that Princess Precure is too.
Because, well...
isn't it obvious?
(yeah it's a notes app sry I'm self-important & long-winded you just can skip to the last one if you want)
it’s very strange to go from playing a bar in the middle of nowhere for 17 drunks blowing cigarette smoke in your face to doing a giant gig in Tokyo for an audience who treats you like the fucking beatles all in the span of 3.5 months.
@PetitePasserine
I planned on getting my life together Feb 2020, getting an actual job, then the pandemic hits and I just go back to living my same weird isolated life and watch everyone else marvel at how strange their lives are now like it's completely novel. How's the pandemic felt? Regular.
Y’all made me feel so good last night (pause)
Nah but really though i’m lucky I have decent cardiovascular strength otherwise the excellent sexy vibes may have killed me!
I felt like little richard. good golly miss molly etc
Also my parents accept me, everything went well.
Ska Band Name Clichés ranked:
5. Named After a Food (waffles mostly)
4. Ska Pun (Mephi, Mata, Skata)
3. "Tone(s)" somewhere in the name (Boss, Ghost, Rude)
2. The Xer(s)/Xor(s) (Interrupters, Inspector, Hub City Stompers)
1. Inside Joke (Five Iron Frenzy, The Marijuana Brass)
I owe Catbite just about everything
It's not just the music,
I learned how to be a *better person* from this band
and how to finally feel like a 33 year old woman and not a 16 year old boy.
Just by observing them and getting to be their friend.
What the hell.
here's my top five freakin' ska albums of 2021 in a particular order.
1. NICE ONE - Catbite
2. SKA DREAM - Jeff Rosenstock
3. THE PRECURE ALBUM - Kmoy
4. ORDINARY LIFE - We Are The Union
5. FRENTE AL MAR - Girls Go Ska
I'll do some reviews in this thread (context: barely slept)
Accidentally invited my parents to SPI Fest. Looks like I'll be coming out to them on stage. Not how I dreamed this would go, but
It's like my man Brad Operation said: everything is gonna be alright.

Tim said it so I figure I can now legally tell you all that I'm playing organ with Catbite for most of the tour in June (I'm filling in for Esteban. Also Esteban vouched for me which is awesome that guy fuckin' rules.)
(also the May 20th to 22nd dates in Canada and upstate NY)
Ska isn't back in "it's big and popular now" but more that it's not so marginalized anymore.
People at the Catbite gigs say "you're the best thing I've seen here all month" or "you're my new favorite band." Not compliments you expect for a genre people are supposed to hate.
also shoutout to to Canasu of Hey-Smith for
1) repeatedly telling me I'm beautiful and オシャレ
2) taking me into the girl's bathroom in the Okonomiyaki place to toss a plastic ball into the tub and make a silent wish ("I want to know what it is to be myself" was mine.)

In a month I'll be playing my first dang show with Catbite so this marks day 1 of me PRACTICING THE CATBITE SET EVERY DAMN NIGHT FOR 29 days or 30 I can't count say hello to the vein in my bicep
I still laugh thinking about the time Catbite played a show in New Jersey and this guy excitedly shakes my hand and says "You're Esteban, right?" and I said "close enough."
Hi! Remember how last time Kmoy didn't play SPI Fest 'cause I didn't feel like trying at life?
WELL NOW I DO (somewhat) AND SO DO THE REST OF THE PEOPLE IN THIS PHOTO (to varying degrees!)
Watch us try at life on May 18th in WINDSOR CONNECTICUT!

this video was heavily truncated so I could fit it on discord. Hi this is me in February 2020 just before death came for us all. I'm afraid this vid might upload sideways
Everyone, shit's rough out here, I'm tryna make money off this ska thing. thinking I should go back in time and become reel big fish. Does this sound good?
let me know in the comments if I should invent a time machine (not for sale) go back in time and become reel big fish for $
What ska multi-instrumentalist made a ten track album that contains spoken lines by an anime girl, has a musically reimagined cover of an old ska-reggae classic that fits with the overall themes of the album, and the last song is a reprise of the final section of the first song?
Flirtatious Ska Songs. Name them.
RULES:
1) Sad love songs are not flirty.
2) They have to be confident and somewhat if not outright swaggering
3) I'll let you get away with some rocksteady and reggae
Okay here's two. BAD INFLUENCE by Catbite. LAY YOU DOWN by The Skints.
Kmoy band practice went real well tonight.
First ever Kmoy shows later this month, 8/25-8/27.
(don't worry a poster is being drawn up and I'll make it my pinned tweet)
Nina showed me this song called THE ROCK SHOW by blink-182 and I question the realism of its premise, so let me ask of thee:
Have any of you ever fallen in love with a girl at the rock show? If so, was it reciprocated? If so, hot damn how the fuck'd you pull that off
Kmoy band is doing this direct to vinyl live session thing!
Basically, ask us to do a song then we record it in one shot and that's the take. And then maybe we do that same song again 9 more times if 10 people ordered that one song. but yeah, cool stuff
Boz (Catbite merch person) convinced me to buy these 5 dollar glasses at a gas station in Kansas and oh my god do they pull this outfit together. Thank you, Boz.

The Precure Album is largely about my frustration with a lifelong issue of not being able to break out of my patterns and do anything.
Ironically, making it was one of the few times I ever broke out of my patterns and did anything. Next album coming whenever!!!
hi if you're some kind of bigot parent who hates their kid, I hate you! I hate you a lot and I don't even know you. And don't give me none of that "no I love my kid I just hate everything about them including and especially who they are to the core of their being." man fuck you
If anybody at supernova ska fest caught sneaky footage of Kmoy in a dress (pictured vaguely squinting) doing the dance of their life to the Aggrolites set plz reveal said footage.
writing a fast ska punk song called "Drunk Tall White Guy"
I'll play it at shows and dedicate it to the drunk tall white guys and just have them injure eachother in the pit so they clear out afterwards and leave space for everyone else.
I think everyone at this point knows and agrees this is a genocide. The only argument I see now is "they deserve it/they hit us first so we gotta genocide them as defense"
idgaf nobody deserves a fucking genocide
free palestine.
such perpetual misery if that never happens.
On this day, the 1 year anniversary of THE PRECURE ALBUM, we must celebrate the brilliant polymath that is CLAYTON CHOWANIEC (
@clayzulah
) who DID THE ARTWORK. It's wonderful, it's vivacious, it's depraved, it's invited and terrifying too, you love it!
PEOPLES WHO PLAY SKA: When you're carrying around a trombone or a guitar or whatever and somebody asks "oh what kind of music do you play?" and you truthfully answer "ska," how do they react?
I get to play a show with Catebite tomorrow!!!! it hasn't been that long but it feels like it's been so long! They're the best ska band going! HELL YES CATEBITE!!
Everyone who comes to these shows: don’t be afraid to talk to me. I’m not important, I’m not famous, I don’t even have 1000 followers. There is no reason to be intimidated by Kmoy.
The plan is to release 3 Kmoy albums in 2025
I already know what they are and what they're called and I know exactly what songs will be on two of them (nine of which have already been recorded but not edited or mixed.) 2 out of these 3 are Not the One You've Been Waiting For.
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK NO. NO NO NO NO NO.
that is not fucking fair that a 68 year old legend died tonight and not this 81 year old genocidal dickhead.
motherfucker
irl tears
AND SO AM I HOLY FUCK GOD DAMN (there is no guarantee we’ll meet King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard just roaming the streets but I hope we do.)
((More likely we meet the guy who did Rick & Morty adventures in bushworld))
My favorite sound in music is people singing in harmony. Psychological deduction suggests this means I emotionally value community and connection at the subconscious level.
Meaning, as much as I front like I can’t stand you, I love you.
MY PEOPLE: listen to CREEPIN' by Catbite and pay attention to the guitar and *only* the guitar the entire time! Listen to that contrast in skanking style between the verse the chorus! Congrats now you know how to play ska guitar better
After graduating college I spent basically my whole life without a musical community, until 2020 when I joined the skatune network discord to keep abreast of what was new in ska. Then I met tape girl, and later BCR and later cool chris and ska twitter. Having a gay olde time.
I take back nothing I said in the last 2 days (or 3. time is weird in Australia) except they/them.
You can still call me "he" if you feel like it. Shit I call *myself* that a bunch so go ahead. he/they/she. Lotta options. Being vague but details will be hammered out in time.
everybody in Catbite RULES I am not FUCKING WITH YOU this 3-day tour was a GAY OLDE TIME! It was surreal and hilarious and awesome (and boring for like 8-11 hours each day in the van but hey)
Everybody in the band made me feel welcome ~in their own special way~ (including Ben.)
