🇲🇩A group of Moldovian schoolchildren created this extraordinary model of the house in THE BOY IN THE STRIPED PYJAMAS and presented it at my reading on Friday night. What incredible creativity! Moments like this make me feel very proud.

308 Irish religious schools implicated in historic child abuse. I've written, spoken about the abuse in Terenure College. My own abuser was due to stand trial in March, but died before then. The damage never fully heals but at least we talk about it now.

I did a (rare) school visit to @WesleyCollege to talk to transition year students about EARTH, which they've been reading. I donate school appearance fees to charity so they gave me this INSPIRED gift. My favourite album, by my favourite artist, framed. Wow. @KateBushMusic

It's a privelege to be invited on book tours but after 25 years on the road, spending more than 100 days each year away from home, the time has come to slow down. I loved Moldova & Azerbaijan but I realised this week it's time to move onto the next stage of my #writerslife .

What is 'Popular Fiction'? Over 2 days I read this 500 page novel. Compulsive plotline, intriguing characters, great writing, surprises, humour, tragedy. It'll stay with me. I enjoyed it more than many so-called ‘literary’ novels. So what IS "popular fiction"? @MichaelJBooks

@DrewPavlou This was forwarded to me & my response was that as long as schools do all they can to encourage kids to read, it's fine with me. The speaker appears committed to children's education & literacy, as am I, so I take no offence if my book is replaced by another on the curriculum.📚

Just have a read of this if you want to see how great schools encourage young writers to embrace their creativity. There are lines in this - by a Year 6 boy - that are just as good, if not better, than many of my sentences in The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. Simply outstanding.
