Last day in surgery before Xmas. It’s so busy just now with coughs, colds, flu and Covid, but despite that, every year I feel a little overwhelmed by the kindness of my patients. Wishing everyone good health and a wonderful Christmas, whatever that means for you.

Good morning Friday! Someone said to me on here that wearing makeup was unprofessional. So I think we’ll make today red lipstick day…and let’s hope that it doesn’t impair my ability to make a clinical decision and look after my patients 😉

End of morning surgery and an elderly lady came in with minor health issues. We had tea and we talked about travelling. We chatted for half an hour. Loneliness isn’t an Illness, but it can’t be ignored. I’m behind with my paperwork, but that can get done later

Self care = hiding in my car at lunchtime listening to tunes and the rain before doing it all again in afternoon surgery.
Do something every day for someone else. Positive energy makes the world a whole better place.

2 kids came into the surgery offering to wash cars. They had wet cloths and buckets but no water. 😂We filled the buckets. They were excited about money for football boots. Now I’m at the car wash to get soapy marks off my car! 😂😂Worth every penny 🥰

My first patient this morning was a very able 93 year old lady. She was a nurse pre NHS. We chatted. We both agree how very lucky we are to have the NHS. 😊💙

Smile, it’s Thursday. Almost 37 million people, that’s 70% of all UK adults, have had a first dose of vaccine and nearly 21 million have had a second. And for us in general practice it means we are slowly seeing more patients face to face. It’s lovely. 😊

Today I saw lots of patients. One of my lovely elderly patients was my last person to be seen this afternoon. She said “Iona, your name badge is upside down” 😂😂…. I saw peeps every 10 minutes from 9am and no one else told me! 🤭😂😂😂🤭.

“Life is like a party. You invite lots of people, some leave early, some stay late, some laugh with you, others at you. But after the fun,a few stay and help clean up the mess, and mostly they aren’t the ones who made the mess. These people are your true friends”❤️
I’m late to the party, but last week was cervical cancer awareness week. Today I have lots of lovely ladies booked in for screening. Please come see us. It takes all of 10 minutes tops, even with chatty nurse Iona so make that appointment!

I love being a nurse. It’s challenging, it’s thought provoking, it’s rewarding, it’s also exhausting but it offers so many opportunities. If you’re willing to look you can find so many ways to make it a wonderful career choice

Today in our little surgery, we have worked our way through 94 consultations between 3 of us, nurse Iona and 2 lovely GPs. Face to face, tel calls and care home visits. Lab reports and hospital letters still to check. I think we can safely say we’re all tired😳

This time last year I found myself in hospital with a partially collapsed lung. It was sudden, extremely painful, and my care was amazing.
Working for the NHS still feels like fire fighting, but I am very grateful for what we have.

Well he did it!! My son Cammie has just heard he has a BSc(hon) in math and finance. He’s partially deaf and has a kidney condition that means he’ll need a transplant at some point. With that comes excessive tiredness at times. But he grafted, and he did it!

Call me crazy if you must, but I love Monday!
Do your best for each and every person you come into contact with and change what you can for the positive. But most importantly, don’t beat yourself up about the stuff we have no control over.

Delayed flights, home in the middle of the night and fighting my way through work, but lovely Dr Sally got me a gorgeous cappuccino to help me through! . Happy Monday peeps

Keep a smile on your face and aim to do your best.
Put on your own oxygen mask first and know your own limits.

2 years ago today in Portugal. I can remember how happy I felt when this picture was taken. Life’s not perfect and fun all the time, so when something hurts, feel it, own it, then move on, because without the tough bits you wouldn’t appreciate the good times

Day 5 of isolation at Iona’s gaff. After sleeping for 10 hours 😳, I decided to shower and put make up on! Covid hasn’t made me feel unwell just very tired.
I thought about exercise, and then headed to the fridge and poured a glass of fizz! 🥂Tomorrow is a new days. 😉
Today I will mostly be wearing this hat 😝….. I mean, I’ll take it off when I see my patients, but I’ll be wearing it in between times! 😁😂 If you’re out and about for work today, stay safe!

I’m tired today, and a little stressed. Then I think, have a little perspective Iona. I’m in my warm consulting room, with a cup of tea, and my children are safe and well. I appreciate every situation is relative, but right now, I feel so so lucky to only feel tired. 🇺🇦

2 years ago today, the UK went into lockdown.
186000 Covid deaths.
1500 healthcare worker deaths.
Today we remember our colleagues, patients and friends who are no longer here.
I still wear my mask at work, and I still remember what a traumatic year 2020 was.

Be intuitive, ask difficult questions, listen with intent, and remember what we see is usually just the tip of the iceberg. There’s always a lot more going on than meets the eye…. And always take time out for yourself to listen to your favourite lunchtime tunes!
