Went to a very evangelical PCA church today. Wonderful people. Fantastic sermon delivered by a humble, Godly pastor. But the music...let's just say evangelical songwriters aren't beating the "Jesus is my boyfriend" allegations.

When did informality become the rule of the day in Church of England evangelicalism? I can understand the rejection of ritualism, but even evangelicals tended to wear choir dress or at least a clericals until relatively recently. When did the polo shirt replace the surplice?

What we really need is a further revision of the 1922 prayer book (rendering it still more ecumenically Catholic/Orthodox) and then all Anglican churches to use this one book. If anyone suggests I am out of touch here, then they themselves are out of touch with generation z.

What love about this meme is that anyone who grew up in the mainline knows exactly who this woman is. They know what her voice sounds like, what her personality is, and what last week's sermon was about. I don't need to watch King of the Hill to know everything about her.

I suspect that the Church Fathers would have been more "catholic" than many evangelicals would like and more "evangelical" than many catholics (RC and Anglo) would like. But not in a mushy "via media" way, but in a way more intensely both than either modern grouping.

@CrankyFed Watching boomer comedians doing "I hate my wife" sets is soooo cringe. I've never understood where it comes from. One of the things I appreciate about Jeff Foxworthy is that he clearly loves his wife, and his jokes are more about the shared humor of married life.
